It may be time.....to "sell high" on Brady (1 Viewer)

So I was pretty convinced I was a genius who nabbed Brady for a couple bucks cheaper then Brees and Manning in my auction draft.

My goal, to own one of the "sure top 2" qbs by seasons end, and to me, Brady was going to be the cheaper of the 2 (him and Brees...so I thought).

Now as we all know, he has started off a little rusty so far. Thats not to say that the pats dont still go for it on 4th, and barring an occasional game plan where they run the #### out of the ball, it really does look like Brady is going to get to sling the rock around all season long.

So I was not, in any way shape or form, thinking about making "backup plans" at one of my highest paid positions after just 3 weeks of football....that is until the last day or so.

We have no idea what is up with Welker, but something seems fishy to me that he has to sit out all preseason, then play week 1, very actively at that, and then miss weeks 2 and 3??? Something seems very strange about that, and we know that Welker helps maintain that offenses ability to keep drives alive with his short grabs.

Even with the Welker questions swirling though, I still thought the better move was to hang tight with Brady and hope he catches fire late and finishes strong (instead of 07 where he petered off during fantasy playoffs).

Now we have Moss with "back issues". Now they are REALLY hyping it up...saying he could barely put on his jersey before the week 3 game, and then not even able to bend over to take of his shoes at the end of week 3. I dont know how much of this to believe, but I would say his back is clearly bothering him in some capacity.

Once again....why? Backs dont typically "hurt that bad" for some strange reason and then magically go away. Often times its a disc issue, nerve issue, etc, that in turn strains muscles over compensating for the rest of the back.

Im not saying for sure we are seeing the beginning of a season long struggle for Moss to deal with this back thing, but I am saying that something is fishy....I mean its week 3, how much wear and tear could we be talking about here? Sure Moss still lite it up last week with the bad back, but if this did stretch out, rest assured he would slow down with it.

Then you got Galloway sucking balls.

Edlerman dinged up himself and a damn rookie who was a qb a year ago.

Taylor added to a mix of RBs that could def be used to help "cover" for a passing game that is struggling (not just from rhythm as we have been suspecting...maybe its deeper then just that?).

Its all starting to stink to me.

I want nothing more then to be "right" about going after Brady in my draft....but im starting to think that I should sell now, while the name is still something, cause if week 8 rolls around and Brady is a 10th ranked fantasy qb...then thats all ill have, and nothing else.

Anyone have any insight to talk me off this ledge? Im ready to trade him for Romo (in a non negative league)!

Agree 100% and if the Welker injury proves more serious, I think he's in that QB9-12 range.
This is a huge week. Can guys like Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub outgun Brady. He faces BAL, tough sledding.
Schaub is possible even if Welker's healthy. If he's not, no question Schaub over Brady.I'd give Brady the nod for now over Flacco/Manning based on the insane season of 2007/track record. No Welker, and I definitely think they could put up similar #'s.

Well, I just traded for Brady earlier in the week (gave up Rodgers in a package deal). I sure hope you're wrong.

I'm not sure you would be "selling high" if you traded Brady right now. I think you would be "selling low".

I need to see Schaub play 10 straight first, he is at 3 not counting last year. aside from fantasy, He also needs to get them to the playoffs, way too much talent there. But obviously the D is a sieve.

JMO He still holds top 3-4 QB value in many eyes based on name alone. Even if the results aren't there yet on Brady, I agree with OP and think you can still sell high.I think if we get some more negative Welker news, that could fall a bit. For now, no major injury news is there on Welker.-------------I like Schaub quite a bit more than Brady this year. I'd have no desire dealing Schaub for Brady.......and I don't think the Brady owner would take Schaub. I think Schaub very well could finish QB1. All the ingredients are there: talent, continuity on cffense, weapons & weather.

As a Schaub owner, why would I do this deal? Unless you add some value? I agree with this assessment. You won't find many takers on the "Brady" name. I think you are selling into a low value market. If I had Brady, I wouldn't panic. He should be ok. Like I said, if I could upgrade another position plus Brady for my Schaub, I'd consider the offer.

I too just traded Rodgers for Brady in a dynasty league--Rodgers was in last year of deal and Brady is signed through the 2011 season. I definitely agree that Welker's absence has really hurt this offense, but he should return in the next few weeks. Brady definitely doesn't look like his old self, as he is not stepping into his throws, but I never expected him to this quickly in the season. IMO, this was the time to steal Brady and buy low, especially in a dynasty league!

As a Moss owner I am concerned about his back as you are right, back injuries don't all of a sudden clear up, often they are chronic. And while Brady can make WRs better, he will struggle to be top 5 without healthy Moss and Welker.

not really. No Welker, an injured Moss with back problems, injured Edelman ( who is raw anyways), and did we just see the Pats begin to move towards becoming more of a running team with Fred Taylor's display last week?they better, because if they keep dropping him back to pass 50 times/gm, he's going to get killed.yeah, that would be 'sell high'on Brady..things can get a lot worse for him.

Already did in my main league two weeks ago.

Brady, Jamaal Charles (who was dropped a week later), Hakeem Nicks, and (6) 2010 & 2011 late round picks

FOR

Cutler, Portis, 1st round 2011 pick, 2nd round 2010 pick, 2nd round 2011 pick

Turned Cutler around in less than 24 hours into a big trade where I was able to get rid of him and LT for Rodgers and Jennings.

Charles was dropped in a dynasty? Interesting.
