Go Get Sum

Ramones eponymous debut released 4/23/76 ... from the stark, minimalist cover ... to the brutal downstrokes of Johnny ... Joey's girl group bent, ... Dee Dee's countless vices - it upended the rock scene in ways never imagined - the much needed grenade in the room.

most impactful debut platter ever, imo ... the four bruddahs from Forest Hills 🖤

:boxing:

Dee Dee & Paul McCartney. 1-2-3-4.

first time ever, on my birthday, to boot

Tommy was having none of that ####

this is stellar archival material, think it was their designer friend Arturo Vega (the fifth Ramone) who shot this ... coincidentally enough, Alan Vega (from Suicide, no relation) said he was one of maybe 7 or 8 people in attendance that night.

god bless Hilly for loving these kooky kids🤘

December 17, 1999. Ramones Cyber punk blitzkrieg. My band played a battle of the bands type party for the Ramones at CBGBs. The top 3 bands as voted on by the band got to perform with The Ramones. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the whole band was there at the start. By the time it came to judging, Marky,  and Johnny had taken off due to some argument. I don’t think Dee Dee even showed.  That left Joey and CJ. My band came in 2nd and played with CJ (who played with band #3 also).
Joey sang with the winning band which happened to be an actual Ramones cover band. We never stood a shot. Best night of my life

amazing story, hell of an experience - Hey, Ho!

we saw Joey plenty around the LES back in the late 80s/early 90s ... he was hard to miss, ya know? never stopped to greet/fanboi, just the occasional "YO! JOEY!!!" which was usually met with some form of acknowledgement.

Dee Dee came in to the old Raven (on 13th & A) one night with Earl Slick ... sat at the window corner seats - again, no approach, just a word or two of greeting "hey, Dee Dee" to a response of a raised glass.

ex of mine was an "IT" girl photographer, went to CB's one night to catch her best friend's band ... was told i'd get to meet Johnny "backstage" (which was the smallest room imaginable), but he popped in and out toot sweet, and never bothered.

think he remembered me from the U of Bridgeport Halloween show in '86 ... i was front and center, and kinda got on his nerves, he kept kicking us back from the apron - but he did toss a ####load of picks

Here is the video. I was so much younger.

i could go 20 deep as to the tune you decide to select for the big countdown ...

i expect we'll have to wait awhile.

:coffee:

Twenty deep bespeaks a great band. I gave myself one shot at it, and I'm sticking to it. Change it, and I'll change the thing right up until, and I can't be in that head space where I'm trying to use an intellectual divining rod from God to figure out which one was most important. Gut, meet song. Go!

Plan to wrap it the countdown within twenty days - month.

So yeah, it'll be a minute. It won't be an interminable wait, though. The method to my "ranking" madness will be revealed then.

i have a sneaking suspicion, as it comes down to a couple/few that i would deem most befitting.

Only saw Ramones once. Circa 1980 in a roller rink.

nice of the Ramones to release on my first birthday.

Lita Ford said Dee Dee gave her the crabs,

not for nuttin', but Lita always came off as ... uhhh ... crabby herself - and that's being as kind as i can, considering the "newer/kinder/gentler" bored parameters.

i just never, ever got the love for her

people will ALWAYS say Stern, but that had more to do with them being the only two 6'5", lanky/gawky Jews with long hair and shades and rock star trappings milling about - facially it just ain't there.
Yup. I ran into Stern at the NY Hilton in Sept. 2001. I was super excited because I thought he was Joey Ramone. And then I remembered Joey had just passed earlier in the year. Pretty sure Stern wondered why my reaction was, "oh, it's you" in kind of an unintentional disinterested tone.
