ita official. I'm leaving to take over the Dallas office on October 1st (2 Viewers)

Do you live in NYC?  If so you'd be going from the greatest city in the world to like the 3rd best city in Texas.  If the money's not double I say no.

North Korea doesn't have the internet.  Any thought of moving there?  Plenty of jobs, brainwashed women, occasional food.  Look into it.

I moved to Dallas three years ago, and I've lived in a lot of places, including CT, where I commuted to NYC on a daily basis.  I'd never go back up to NY, unless you tripled my compensation perhaps.  Dallas can be pretty hot in July and August, but you don't have to suffer through six months of winter either.  Lots of up and coming areas both for young people and for familes. But, Texas in general has a different vibe than other parts of the country.  Personally, I love it, but I'm sure it's not for everyone.  Dallas is a pretty clean city overall and the traffic isn't really all that bad, although I'm sure that depends on what part of the city you're in and where you're commuting to.  Most Texans I've spoken to consider Dallas to be better than Houston, but most people like Austin the best.  Plenty of lakes and pools to help keep cool in the hot summer months.  Most importantly, the women won't expect you to make $250K minimum before they'd date you, and there is no shortage of hot women down here.

Congrats man! Make sure to use this opportunity to renegotiate your salary. If he's willing to relocate you at that price point he clearly values you and would presumably pay a to keep you happy. It's well within your right to ask for a frank discussion on the matter. It's important to feel comfortable talking about money.

As for Dallas, it's really quite cool. Downtown has several trendy areas, people are very nice and the cost of living difference will blow your mind. Would do it 10 times our of 10 (spent lots of time in the Northeast).

Good luck!

I make more than that as my base.

not much more
I can't remember whose alias this is, or if this is shtick.  But if someone is asking you to move cross-country to "run" a branch of whatever it is you do, I'd bet you could ask them to at least double that.

If all you have so far is a heads up from the boss via text pending conversation tomorrow, take the time tonight to write down all your questions. He'll likely answer a lot of them before you need to ask but you should be ready. I'll list some:

Company paid trip there to check it out, look for a place to live, etc.? Live east of work if you can.

Research salaries for similar positions. Let them name a salary first. Counter with a number higher than you think they'll say yes to. You may get it.

As was mentioned, get paid relocation costs defined.

Medical/Dental/Life Ins/Long-Term Disability Ins/401k/Profit Sharing

More paid vacation days, laptop, home internet paid, mobile phone, expense account, company vehicle, gym membership, signing bonus?

Once you're done negotiating get everything in writing.

Written job description?

Company goals and expectations for the branch?

In your mind, are you qualified?

Where does he see you in 5 years?

Can I still get the drawing I was promised (non-dong)?

I'm not running the entire branch I'm just running my dept I assume

operations manager

So your boss offered you a job in Dallas but didn't offer specifics like salary, duties, start date, etc. Pretty sure he is just getting rid of you.

Are you including your income from dong drawing, being a death metal vocalist, running a food truck, selling t shirts, etc. in the above figure?
Oh this is THAT guy? Didn't he also have some weird deal about peeing in a jug when living with a roommate? Forgot the exact scenario but I remember thinking "whoa this guy is insane."

Anyway OP, if you move here let's have a beer. Please don't stab me.

Yeah I think he was living in a halfway house or something and they kept giving him roomates he didn't want. So, he was peeing in jugs and leaving the open containers around the room, clipping his toenails all over the place, etc. Then the roomates would tell the people in charge they had to get out of the room and he'd be alone again.

You should ask him why he's a racist some time, it is quite the story. He claims to have an IQ of 176 (or something like that) too.

The last thing I remember he was living with his girlfriend's parents and he was going to marry his girlfriend. Surprisingly, those plans seem to have fallen through.

Life must be so hard when you're that smart.

Seems likely to stab. I rescind the beer offer. Best of luck if you move here.

I'd actually assume the opposite, don't most of our drugs now come across the Mexican border since the Columbian cartels have been shut down?
Yes, most has always come through Mexico. Colombian cartels have given more power and percentage to the Mexicans over time.  It is probably a better arrangement for the Colombians.  I agree that quality is higher in Texas, particularly if you venture into the valley.  Don't know much about brown but that was how it worked for white.

1 week is not enough time for a life decision, get more time.  then visit your work area, find a realtor, you know.....do some research.

i would go anywhere if the opportunity was right.  life is about risks and discovering new things.

dont blow this.
If this isn't fishing then I agree with X 100%. This is way too little notice for a decision such as this. Tells me a lot about how your current company does things......and you don't even know what your new salary will be? C'mon......time for your big boy pants.

I think this is :fishing:

Just got off the phone with him.

this is huge. I am being offered the branch manager position.

comes with a 50% pay bump and they will help me get set up in a new city.

the long term plan is to get the Dallas office running and within 2 years move in to Ft Worth, Houston, Austin ETC and then I'll move to regional manager which would put me in a 6 figure salary like our poorer FBGs

he is currently going to talk to the CEO about sending me down to visit.

i told him I would like to visit first but I'm going to have to jump at the oppurtunity and bust my ### looking towards the future.
