It's crunch time in FFL folks. For those of you who were fortunate enough to make the playoffs: Congrats. I, like many of you, are hoping for a nice influx of cash this holiday season if the FF Gods comply. However there are a couple things to consider as we head into the first week... these things seem to surface every year:
1) Don't take it personally
I'm sure everyone is hoping to log into MyFBG and find that Dodds and/or Bloom have their guys all projected to go off this (and each subsequent) week. There's always some peace of mind to be had by that re-affirmation. However, not seeing your guys ranked to have season-highs is no reason to start threads going off on the staff or publically calling out their rankings.
If you have a legit argument with merit that you feel they might not have considered in the rankings, then by all means... start a thread saying so. Threads that say "I think Dodds is missing the boat on PLAYER X this week because I feel he's failed to take stock of SCENARIO A and SCENARIO B". Starting a thread with an angry tone simply saying "WTF is up with Dodds? Player A at WR 25 this week? NO way! He should be in the top 10!" Why? Let's not clutter the Shark Pool with butt-hurt threads whining about the staff's projections. If you've trusted them to advise you in getting this far, then their rankings obviously had some merit in your eyes.
2) The Assistant Coach Forum is STILL OPEN:
It seems this time of year folks panic and start to flood the Pool with WDIS type threads. Please try to avoid doing this. The Assistant Coach Forum usually has more people trying to help than any other time of the year. Go in there... post up your question and wait patiently for answers.
While you're waiting on the answers to roll in from folks in the ACF, check out the Fantasy Pros - Sit or Start Engine. Not only does that site feature two FBG experts giving their advice (Dodds has been among the top rated experts this year)... but it's got a great tool that compares players based on who all the experts in the hobby think you should start. Use it in Conjunction with FBG's own projections when making your tough decisions.
3) Trust your gut.
Experts have to follow the whole league. Many of you focus intently on a small subset of these players for the year. Most folks watch every play featuring their studs each week. You know these guys. If your opinion differs drastically from that of the Staff... check more sources. If you're still torn: trust your gut. At the very least it will leave you with only yourself to blame if your guy chokes and costs you the league title.
Finally...remember: It doesn't matter if you're in free leagues or multiple big money leagues.... this is still a game that's based on a game. It can only be predicted with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Enjoy the chaos and relax a bit... it's not Serious Business
