My first year using FAAB and still trying understand tricks or basic principal behind the amount that should be bid????

Should you ensure you have enough $$ to carry you through the year or do you spend large $$ when potential impact player come available, future be damned?

How many actually make it through the year w/ $$ left???? How many spend all they have by mid year and play only FA's

There are some growing pains involved. It's tough to really have a strategy until you know your opponents' tendencies. My advice would be to overbid rather than underbid. The best pickups are usually early in the season and every week your FAAB dollars become less valuable because there are less possible weeks to spend them. If this is the first year your league has used it you'll notice a lot of people spending a ton of money on defenses at the end of the year simply because they have nothing else to spend the money on. So, basically, overbid on the #1 pickups that will be valuable to your team. If you'd like to get sneaky, you can underbid on the second best pickups.

$1 in the beginning of the year is worth much more than $1 at the end of the year. For example, I have a very deep team and havent had to pick up many FA's. I currently sit at $140 (out of $200). Meanwhile the rest of the league has less money than me. As everyone's budgets start to dwindle my $140 loses more and more value.

You'll prob need to use it for injuries/bye situations, but try to save your cash to blow on an impact player, play the FA as much as possible (although my FAs charge $1 for use). I usually try to spend it on an RB that received opportunity the rest of the season from injury/etc, but I guess it depends on your team needs. Always save a few emergency bucks if you do go all in on someone, but by the end of the season you should have spent every penny. Also keep tabs of how much people win players with to gauge how much you league mates are spending for each position/caliber player.

use it or lose it. Most teams end the year with money left over.

Plus in many leagues (mine that uses blind bidding) you can sell players for points too if you feel you want to bid someone pretty high.
