I've had my fun (1 Viewer)

I have been in Fantasy Football for almost 10 years. I have been in almost every kind of league with almost every kind of player.

I am currently in leagues with family and friends that I get a lot of enjoyment out of. But I am now ready to cash in on my experience and knowledge and make a buck or two. I am not interested in the big money leagues (I am too late anyway) because I don’t have that much discretionary funds.

So I am looking for online leagues that fit the following criteria:

1. Runs off total points.

2. Pays back 3 or 4 places.

3. Pays back at least 90% of fees.

4. Full of fish (Sorry Unlucky).

5. $100 or less (probably relates to #4).

I chose the first two criteria because I am looking for the highest probability of winning a little change, with a very low probability (injuries) of not making the money. I (and probably everyone else on this board) have never finished out of the top 3-4 when playing in a total points league. The rest are self explanatory.

I have checked many of the big name sites, and haven’t found one that meets all of the above. Has anyone else ran into one that does?

Let's say you try to do this for money.

You play 10 leagues at 100 dollars each, because anything more would decrease your ability to do this well enough to make money in each league (for this example). Since you're in so many leagues, you spend 10 hours a week (1 hour per league) making changes, researching players, and hitting the wires.

Let's say, on average, first place pays 60%, 2nd pays 30%, and 3rd pays 10%

In 12 team leagues, and FF in general, luck does play a major role. Let's say you're better than the "fish", so in 1/2 the leagues you'll finish at least 3rd.

The playoffs have a lot of random elements included in them, so at your skill level, you finish 1st 50% of the time, 2nd 30%, and 3rd 20% of the time that you make the money.

So:

1st place: (.5)*(.6)*(100)*(.5)*(10)*(12)=1800

2nd place: (.5)*(.3)*(100)*(.3)*(10)*(12)=540

3rd place: (.5)*(.1)*(100)*(.2)*(10)*(12)=120

So, you'll make $2,460, or a $1,460 profit.

But, if you take into account 40 hours of preseason work (low estimate), and 160 hours of in-season research (1 hour per league, per week), you work 200 hours to get that 1,460.

So, you make $7.30 an hour.

Yippee.

Conclusion: You don't play FF for profit. It's a nice side-effect, but we do this because we like competition, we like football, and we have fun doing it.

Excellent post Keys, If you remember, I posted a bit in your poker thread when you started it, and was basically starting at the same point you were. Though I have lost track of you the last 3-4 months. While $7.30 per hour doesn't sound great, do you want me to tell you what my hourly rate for poker is? Can I ask what your poker hourly rate is?

Right now, my hourly rate is $3.50. But, I'm looking at the time I'm spending now as a future investment, not what I'm currently making. The goal right now is to hit 200NL by March, and at just 3PTBB/hr there, my hourly rate 5 tabling will be $30/hr. Pretty good, and I can move up from there eventually. You just can't do that in FF.BTW--I have a poker blog now...I quit the thread because I don't think it served its purpose anymore (I'm no longer a beginner). The blog is in my sig, and I update it nightly with the same thoughts and stuff I put into that thread.
