J. Addai (1 Viewer)

I am just trying to put together a RB list for redraft and dynasty and having a hard time trying to evaluate where Addai should fit.

2 RB's had carries for Indy last year.

Addai: 226 for 1081 yards for a 4.8 ypc and 7 TD's

Rhodes: 187 for 641 yard for a 3.4 ypc and 5 TD's

Rushing Yards for RB's in Indy 1722 yards and 12 TD's

Reciving yards for RB's

Addai: 40 receptions 325 yards and 1 TD.

Rhodes 36 receptions 251 yards and 0 TD's.

76 receptions for 576 yards.

With 1 year under his belt and a strong rookie compain Addai should/will only improve on last years totals and with no significant back up to date in Indy he could be in store for a huge year. E. James was a perenial top 5 fantasy RB in Indy and I think Addai could fall into this category.

Where does everyone have this guy ranked and what are your projections?

I like Addai, but I think Indy will use someone else to keep Addai from getting all the work. hes in the 6-10 range imo

Addai couldn't hold a young Edge's jock.
Maybe, but this has no bearing on whether or not Addai will have great fantasy value next season and beyond.E. James highest ypc was in 2004 which was a 4.6 ypc. He has a career average of 4.1. In Addai's first season he averaged 4.8 ypc and he did have 226 attempts so this in not an inflated back up RB playing against tired defenses.

Addai hasn't had the opportunity to be a full time back. If given the chance it is somewhat rediculous to think he cannot put up Edge like numbers in that offense.

Curious as to why many believe Indy will bring in another RB to split with Addai. They always gave Edge the rock, I think he was a league leader in the % of team carries he received year in and year out. This strategy worked well for them. Yes Addai had a slight injury concern in college, but this is the NFL now. He did good last year without injury. Marvin Harrison was once an injury concern himself, those things can stop all of a sudden ya know. Addai showed he has great potential, stayed healthy, and is a high character guy. Why's everyone think Indy will bring in another RB?

Indy did sign the most dynamic RB out of the CFL last season. Kenton Keith of the Saskatchewan Roughriders was signed by Indy and is a great scat back and will do well if given opportunity to relieve Addai. Keith is shifty and extremely quick and will be best used in a COP role. I have seen Keith many times on T.V. and live and this guy is a talented RB. He is not a full time NFL rb but could be a nice compliment to Addai.

Over-estimate the CFL much?Kenton Keith will not even make the Indy roster, let alone ever see the field. You'll see Keith suiting up for the Riders come August. I guarantee it.

As for if Addai is a top 5 pick in re-draft....Not even up for discussion in my opinion. I woud take Tomlinson, Jackson, L.Johnson, Alexander and Westbrook over Addai in a heartbeat. All of those RBs are perennial Top RBs, and are all safer bets than Addai. Of course Addai could finish in the top 5 RBs, but my bet would go to those 5 before Addai.

As for if Addai is a top 5 pick in dynasty...No thanks. Tomlinson, Jackson, Johnson, Westbrook, Gore, Bush.

Maybe over-estimating a little bit, but R. Williams found hard times rushing in the same league Keith had success in. Who knows if Keith will make it, but I did read that he has bulked up to 210 pounds as he prepares his body for the more physical NFL game.

You are comparing the Argos O-line and Sask O-line...thats like comparing the Raiders O-line to the Cincy O-line.Ricky had no chance behind that Argo O-line.

Westbrook perhaps, but no way to I take Bush over Addai. Addai is the TD guy and could easily have 60-70 receptions this season as well. 40 in a rookie season sharing playing time with Rhodes.I think Addai is not getting enough love in dynasty. No particular order but Dynasty starting to shape up this way.Teir 1:1) L. Where's Larry Johnson?
ACL Tear his career is done.Sorry over sight I was doing it quickly.I will change it quickly... lol
Wheres Alexander?P.S. I will bet anything that Addai finishes with more FF points than both SA and Portis in 2007. Of course i would want 2/1 odds. :D Yes, i will be bumping this thread in December.
Pretty bold statement. I think Addai will be top 8 next year, right there with Portis and maybe SA. I think LT, SJax, LJ, and SA are still just a notch above everyone else next year...while Portis, Gore, Addai, and Westbrook are right behind them in their own tier. That's my top 8 for next year, Bush may also squeak in there...but all depends on how much Deuce plays (I still see almost a 50-50 split next year still).

Alexaner is done, the guy is 30, got his payday, and the loss of Hutchinson was huge last year. At some point you have to stop looking at past stats. For the first time last year SA didnt play 16 games, and rushed for less than 4 YPC. Coincidence? i dont think so. One might get another decent season or two out of him, but his top 5 days are OVER.I will retire from FF, and never post here again if SA finishes top 5.

I see Addai's upside around RB10 overall.
What about Addai makes you think he cant finish higher than 10? As a rookie splitting carries last year, the guy finished with over 1400 yards, 8 TD's and averaged 4.8 YPC. A year under his belt, loss of Rhodes, the best offense in football, skies the limit. OK, Tomlinson is the limit, but #2 is no way out of the question.

I'm thinking top five is hardly out of the question, but that's based more on the team around him then Addai himself. If Indy brings nobody significant in, then I'd put him around #6 or 7 in redraft this year, a couple of slots lower in dynasty. I'm simply not sold on the idea that he is/will be an elite back. Knock him down 2-3 slots for non-ppr leagues.

He may well outscore Westbrook, Bush, and Gore, but these guys are all more talented IMHO, and safer (except for Gore with his injury history). No way I could slot him ahead of LT, LJ, or SJ right now.

FWIW...I just drafted him in PDSL2, so I'm hoping he meets the potential and is a top five, but I truly believe he'll end up in the 6-8 area. (I took him at #7) :banned:

The Points per game for Alexander was #11 for RBs last year with including some games where he was playing injured. Even though Alexander is approaching 30, he still has less touches than Tomlinson, and Tomlinson has had more injuries as well. The Hawks O-line was in injury shambles last year as well. Alexander is not done IMO.

This is why I left Alexander off of this dynasty list. I missed L. Johnson the first time and that was a mistake, but I don't want Alexander on my dynasty teams hence why he was left off.

Addai had 54% of the Colts RB touches last year . . . and ranked 11th.
 I think this really puts things into perspective for me. I can't see him getting worst barring injury. Therefore he is as safe a bet to finish in the top 10 as anyone else out there.
And you could not pick a better NFL team for your fantasy RB.

I did not want to hijack this thread but where did you guys see Maroney?

The situation is similar, what do you think?

I would agree, except for Westbrook, I think Addai is a better pick in dynasty than Westy is. And I think Addai has the potential to be a top-5 RB, but in your first round you want a more definite pick.

Apparently you haven't seen Addai. There are safer picks, but Addai has all the good and circumstances to be a top-5 RB.

Except for the fact that he's never shouldered the entire load without breaking down. I watched him at LSU get hurt EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I actually contemplated keeping him over LJ in a keeper league. Don't know, just have a feeling that LJ is going to break down next year. After I slept off the bourbon I realized that Addai was the one more likely to break down. Redraft I'd take him no higher than 8th behind LJ, LT, Jackson, Gore, SA, Portis, and Westbrook. Sorry, just wouldn't do it. Also might seriously consider McGahee before him as well in Baltimore. Addai is definitely high risk/high reward. Like someone else posted though, do you really want to risk that much on your first round pick?

Huh???? He was hurt foot he last 6 games of his senior year, he didn't miss a single game his junior year. What are you talking about? He had a medical redshirt as a freshman, but that was way back in 2001.Edited for typos

He was always nicked up at LSU. He started 19 of 51 career games at RB. Would you call that shouldering the load? He's always been in a RBBC and more often than not, he wasn't the starter in those committees. I think he's very high risk/high reward. It's all speculation right now. The Colts might draft him some help, never know.

He played in more than 19 games, and most college programs run platoons. PArt of the reason he wasn't a starter more, was due to his medical reshirt as a freshamn. When he came back they had replaced him, and recruited some other RBs. He still beat them all out.

  :lmao: No he didn't. The ONLY reason Addai started his senior year is because Alley Broussard tore his knee up before the season. Addai most definitely did not beat him out. If AB doesn't go down, Addai might not have even been drafted, much less been taken in the first round.

If Addai is the next top 5 back.....why couldn't he seem to keep Rhodes off the field more last year? Sorry, I'm just not buying Addai as anything but a borderline RB#1.

According to Dungy and team brass, they didn't want to rush Addai in there when they had a capable player in Rhodes to take some of the load. They run a pretty complex offense, but Addai took to it rather quickly.

In recent years, how many rookie RBs have come in and flat out won the exclusive rights to carry the ball? In the past 5 year, only Cadillac Williams was the go to guy for the entire season and no rookie RB had 300 carries in a season. Clinton Portis was the only other RB to get 250 carries.

I expect the Colts to find a #2 back in the draft to complement Addai (they have 3 high comp picks to find someone). I don't expect the Colts to overwork him at all. He'll get more touches than last season, but not as many as some think.

Because they had plans on winning the superbowl and avoiding the rookie wall with Addai. He played 12 games a year at college and just went through a 24 week season with the Colts.

Not true either... Addai started taking on more of a role toward the end of the 2004 season. He would have competed with Broussard for the starting gig in 2005 whether Broussard had been injured or not.

Why would I predict Addai to finish outside of the top 10 this year when he did this (11 th) as a rookie competing with a RB who had started a season with Indy and knew the offense extremely well?

Although you do have to take injuries into consideration in rankings I don't think it should be a big determinant until a guy starts missing time every single year and Addai stayed realtively healthy as a rookie playing a much more physical game and more games than in college so I don't think injury is a huge concern at this point. Rb's get beat up and miss time it is a part of the game, but to predict whether Addai has a greater risk than others is simply guessing.

If you are going to down grade Addai due to injury concerns then you must down grade Gore, Maroney etc for the same reasons.

Of course there are some question marks but to have Addai outside of the top 10 for RB's at this point wouldn't be right IMO and I am really seeing him in dynasty as the 6th best RB out there.

Ill come bump when he's riding the bench with an injury. People seem to either forget, not know, or just dont care to consider the fact that Addai is seriously injury prone and constantly wears down. If youve followed the kid at all before last year, he's never stayed healthy, he's never carried a full load, and if he doesnt have someone to split with I GUARANTEE he will be injured by year's end. And regardless of any of that he is in no way a top 5 redraft pick

I don't think anyone said he was.

Way to backtrack. Glad to see you admit Addai did NOT beat Broussard for the starters job. He took some carries at the end of '04 and maybe would have competed with him for the starting job is not quite the same as your original statement.

Most likely Broussard would have been starting with Addai spelling him, but none of that really matters. The point is and remains to be that Addai has yet to handle a full load without wearing down or getting hurt. Im not stating that its not possible because it is, but Im not betting on it

Kevin Jones, Tomlinson, etc....there have been countless RB's start as rookies quickly take over as the primary back. Addai didn't have M.Faulk to overcome like Steven Jackson did....he had Dom. Rhodes to supplant. I'm not saying that Addai can't be a feature back, what I'm saying is he isn't top 5 material. Indy isn't Denver....just because Addai is going to be the primary ball carrier doesn't mean he is going to be a stud. Signature bet says that he isn't in the top 5 in basic fantasy scoring at the end of 2007.

According to Dungy and team brass, they didn't want to rush Addai in there when they had a capable player in Rhodes to take some of the load. They run a pretty complex offense, but Addai took to it rather quickly.
What would you expect Indy brass to say?....."Our new starting RB since Rhodes left via free agency just couldn't take over the starting job last year....Rhodes did many things better than Addai......we hope that Addai can handle the load this year."
