J. Best owners - What are you doing this week? (1 Viewer)

PR Sparty

Footballguy
The lions can't run the ball. They really aren't gonna be able to run the ball vs the Jets.

BUT...do you think the Lions know this and will abandon the run all together hence putting Best out in the flat more often? Is there a better way to "defend" against a strong blitz than dropping the RB out in the flat (see Foster vs. the Giants blitz last week)

The PPR rankings this week have him as RB#10. What are your thoughts?

Due to byes I'm stuck choosing between him and Brandon Jackson.

Obviously not excited about the matchup, but leaning towards Best.

Since I have Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson on a bye...I have no other choice but to roll with him. Looking forward to another loss this week.

As a Best owner and Jets fan, I'm pondering this myself.

It's very difficult to run against the Jets except for one lane outside the defensive end and between the outside LB. They are vulnerable if you hit that hole at a certain angle. They are susceptible to screen passes and short passes over the middle due to the constant blitzing.

I'm not expecting a big day, but probably enough catches to make it an ok PPR play. I just have to decide if I want to go to option #3 with someone like perpetual disappointment Ryan Matthews.

I have him in a half a point per reception league at my flex guy. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. He hasn't done much lately, but even when he doesn't do much, he still gets a decent 9 points or so with all his catches. I might roll the dice with Mike Wallace instead but as of right now, I think I'll go with Best.

I am sitting him. Not expecting much out of him this week. To be honest, I am not expecting much moving forward, either. I was disappointed to see Kevin Smith in the game in the 4th Quarter when the offense was in a critical series.

I was fortunate to grab Blount off the ww, and am hoping he becomes a permanent replacement for Best.

PPR league RB CJ Blount Beaner Best Woodhead

CJ bye

Best home vs jets

Beaner @minny and swolt scoped knee

Blount @Atl

Woodhead @ Cle

Leaning toward Blount and Beanie, if healthy.

if not woodhead maybe

best with bad matchup and kevin smith gaining steam will prolly sit but last time i sat best he went off for 17car 78yds 2tds 9rec 154yds td and 70pts so if i sit him its a must start for you.

K.I.T.

I think I have no option but to run Best out there this week in my Flex. It's either Best, Barber, or Choice....... so I think I'm gonna gamble on the talent. If he catches for 50 yds and runs for 50, and maybe gets a score, he will put up a good enough point total to justify starting him in most leagues (depending on scoring). But I think while he might not go off completely this week, 50 and 50 is plausible.

I too am intrigued by FBG’s high ranking. I just couldn’t see it after he hadn’t shown a pulse since week #2. On top of that he was in a full blown RBBC with carries split down the middle with Kevin Smith. I scoffed at the ranking, and my gut was to bench him.

But then you look at the positives. Kevin Smith is banged up and hasn’t practiced, while Best has practiced fully. Also, the Lions are playing at home on the artificial turf where Best uses his dynamic quicks. The last time that Best faced a tough defense was at home against Philadelphia, and he had the monster game. If he is healthy, and some say that he is close to 100%, I don’t see the Jets shutting down the Lions this week. They are coming off a shutout loss and will be fired up, but on the road it will be difficult to stop all the Lions weapons.

With the Lions at close to full strength and at home, they should be passing a lot, but Best is good for at least a handful of catches in that situation, so his PPR floor is pretty high.

Best has shown that he can occasionally break into the open space and break the big play. All you need is one good play from Best, and he will make your day.

I am starting him over Dez Bryant as a flex in ppr, if only perhaps because FBG’s is so low on Dez. Can anyone explain why? (or save for the Dez Bryant thread).

:fingerscrossed:

Think I'm sitting him in my PPR 2RB/2WR/Flex league for Miles Austin...

RB: Arian Foster

RB: Ray Rice

WR: Hakeem Nicks

WR: Calvin Johnson

Flex: Miles Austin

Not the matchup that was concerning me, but rather Smith eating into the touches, especially at crunch time. However, with Smith dealing with a gimpy knee, I think it makes Best a damn good start, especially in PPR.

Rolling him out with confidence :(

We both know this isn't true :) . Best is serviceable in a PPR league but in a non-PPR league, I think expecting more than 6-7 points against the Jets is wishful thinking.

Factor in that Kevin Smith is getting healthy and seems to be getting a bigger role in the offense.

This, combined with the fact that they are playing in Detroit is why I think he is a good play this week. I am hoping/expecting a stat line of:30 yds rushing, 7-8 receptions for 70 yards, 1 TD...20 points in my .5 ppr league. :hey:

Standard scoring he's on the bench for Blount or B Jackson. haven't decided yet.

Any PPR leagues, he's in the lineup.

I used to think that soccer fans were the most fickle, but now i know that fantasy football fans are the most fickle. I'm not sure what more you want from the guy. Last week in his "horrible" day he got like 80 yards from scrimmage and 5 receptions in a HALF of play before the coach inexplicably took him out. Even pure rushing they both had 12 carries for 50 yards or so. The guy will get you 10 points or more EVERY WEEK in a PPR league and has basically won me my week by HIMSELF for 2 weeks. What else can i ask for from someone picked in the 4th round? To win my week singlehandedly and give me 10 points in other weeks? That's what i expect from my 1st round player not 4th round player.

He hasn't had "10 points or more" since week 2.

Traded him for S. Jackson in a non-PPR yesterday...time will tell on whether I pulled the plug too soon.

I think he's talking ppr

he has scored less than 10 points only in week 3 for me in my ppr league.

Benched.

My other options are Bradshaw, Tomlinson, Blount, and Brandon Jackson. I think I like all of those guys ahead of Best this week.

I'm starting Ray Rice and LaGarette Blount over him, but I'm debating about either Best, Wells, or Mike Williams (Sea) in my flex. Right now I'm leaning toward Wells.

Have Gore on bye and My other backs are Jonathan Stewart, Tashard Choice, and Ryan Mathews, so I have to start him.

However, maybe there is a light at the end of this tunnel

Kevin Smith-RB- Lions Nov. 4 - 11:57 am et

Kevin Smith (knee) was unable to practice Thursday.

Smith practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, so it's not a good sign that he was downgraded Thursday. It's possible the Lions just want to give his surgically repaired knee extra rest. We'll see if he's able to get in some reps Friday.

Just saw this on CBS:"In practice, RB Kevin Smith's first-team reps increased Wednesday"

"Kevin Smith, is taking away first-team reps in practice."

Been dreading week 9 since I drafted both MJD and SJackson, both on a bye. I'm stuck with Best this week. Here's hoping he catches some outlets from Stafford (who I also have to start against the Jets D) and takes them to the house so I can BUMP this thread on Sunday!!! Hey, if Calvin is blanketed by Revis/Cromartie, maybe Best gets a lot of action in the passing game? :fingers crossed:

Best will be where he's been since Week 3, perma-benched. If you have to rely on him, you're in trouble.
Guy is #7 overall rb and would still be a top 20 w/out week 2.Its stuff like this that makes me think the shark pool is going down hill... Solid analysis. Think before you type.

That is such a foolish statement. If you own him in a ppr (which I would bet more than half of leagues are now), he has been under 10 points exactly once this year. There is finally positive talk about his health, the offense is extremely explosive, and he finally has some relief in the way of Smith. His touches are still hovering around or over 15 per game, he's top 3 in RB targets, and has a great conversion rate on his targets (See Waldman's Gut Check for detailed info). Add to that there are still plenty of games on turf in the Lion's schedule... I think anyone relying on him is probably just fine.I'm relying on him in both of my primary leagues as a Flex/RB2, he's producing, and I'm winning. That's not being in trouble.I think people just expected too much after week 2. The only way a Best owner should be concerned is if he is your RB1. As a RB2/Flex, he's been fine, with a positive outlook going forward.I'm also of the opinion that K.Smith giving Best a break is a good thing. He's a rookie, who's seen a fair bit of work. The rest should help him keep it up the entire season, instead of hitting the "wall" that many rookies hit. Also, the Lion's know what they have in Smith, if it was that impressive, I doubt that trading up for Best would have been such a priority. Smith is a nice, serviceable back... but he deffinately lacks the explosiveness and big play potential of Best.
