Is he just a one week play? Or is LJ looking at more time off the field?

Trying to evaluate him against other guys like Norwood, Fred Jackson, McFadden, Sammy Morris and Betts who might do well going forward.

I think he's decent filler material going forward. Not sure how great his dynasty value is though.. It is rather telling that the coaching staff doesnt view him as an every down back. that being said, he could use that as motivation to prove them wrong.. only time will tell. I see rbbc once LJ is back.

I think this week is the only one where he's pretty safe to see most of the work. After that it sounds like he'll at least be in a RBBC with LJ (assuming he keeps his nose clean). Herm has said that he doesn't think Charles can take the pounding of being the bell cow. That could have been a motivational thing, but taking him at his word it sounds like Charles still viewed as the 3rd down/change of pace.

Given the team he's on, I'd probably take several of the other guys you named. He does have an appealing playoff schedule if he were to somehow end up remaining the starter going forward.

It depends how badly you need a RB. If its just for this week, I'd take Charles. If its a backup for the rest of the year, I'd much rather have Morris and I'd be willing to take a shot on McFadden too.

I think the book on Charles was that he could be a 3rd down back immediately, but needed to put weight on as well as work on his fumbling issues before becoming a full-time guy. His upside is tremendous. So far, the returns are about what I expected when I drafted him at 2.2. Writing him off (for the long term) because he's not ready now is a mistake IMO.

I'm excited to see what he brings today. Not the greatest match-up in the world, but it only takes one play for him or Savage to take it to the house. I like watching the young Chiefs as they can surprise people. Should be interesting to see how much Savage and Battle are sprinkled in. I would expect Battle to at least get the GL...

Right, I was assuming we're talking redraft b/c obviously McFadden has much higher long term potential. I would say Norwood does too. Depending on his injury status, Morris has much higher short term value than long term...I doubt the Patriots will enter 09 with him as their feature back.Charles is a guy I might hold in a deep dynasty over Fred Jackson or Betts just because he's young and was drafted relatively high. It's hard to draw firm conclusions on him given his limited play on a bad team. Meanwhile, Jackson and Betts are guys that will have long NFL careers but probably never be starters without some kind of injury or special circumstance.

contrarian point of view:

LJ is finished as a Chief..he won't play the remainder of the season.

just my $.02, but I wouldn't be surprised to see LJ on the fritz...I think the team has soured on him..

they're playing well without him..

John Clayton disagrees with you from what Rotoworld is saying. I'd love to see a Savage/Battle/Charles rotation though

1. Even if this ends up being the case, it's not a lock that Charles would get the majority of touches, although clearly his value would go up. 2. As we've been endlessly debating in another thread, the Chiefs have no basis to suspend him any more right now. They have to at least let him practice or outright cut him. If he's taking up a roster spot & practicing I don't see how they rationalize no using him, especially since they're thin at RB. They may be done with LJ after this year, but I think he's going to see the field next week...to what degree remains to be seen.
