Would rather designate one the starter than try and play match-ups.Solo = 1Sack = 2FR = 3FF = 2PD = 1INT = 3TD = 6Safety = 2Bl. Kick = 3Using this scoring:Pierce had 113 FPs last year (2004).Peterson had 107 FPs in 2003 and 37 FPs through 4 1/4 games last year*.*This projects to 139 FPs over a full 16-game season.Peterson's coming off of achilles surgery and questions remain about how SF switching to a 3-4 will affect his numbers.Thoughts?

voted for pierce. i trust his new situation (changing teams) over peterson's (changing defenses, coming back from injury)

You've got to go with the 3 down MLB in a 4-3 over the OLB in a 3-4 IMHO.
Exactly, and especially in a scoring system that weights tackles more heavily than other systems do relative to sacks, int's, etc.

Great stuff fellas (I expect nothing less from this board).Don't get ####ed that I didn't look this up myself.A little short on time right this second.(Also a bit embarrased that I don't know the answer myself) :bag: But, who started at MLB for NYG last year?How did they do fantasy wise?

Nick Griesen. :thumbdown: He's still there as Pierce's backup. 'Nuff said.

Thanks Redman :thumbup:

Great point! I'd definitely lean on Pierce to begin the season until JP shows he's back in stride. I'd give it a few games, but once Peterson is "back" he is one of the best LBs in the league. He's a great one to stash on your roster till that happens. And it WILL happen. :football:

Here's the topper:

Sep 8 Peterson, who is returning from a torn left Achilles' tendon, will share playing time with Andre Carter and Jamie Winborn at the two outside linebacking spots Sunday against the Rams, the Oakland Tribune reports.For Peterson, it will mean dividing time more evenly between dropping into pass coverage and rushing the quarterback than he has been accustomed to. In the past, he dropped into coverage a greater percentage of the time. His left leg is about 90% healed, and while he has no restrictions on the field, the team wants to make sure he is a fresh late as he is early in the game, prompting the rotation. Peterson expects to be fully healed in October, which is the one-year anniversary of the injury.
Pierce it is.

Peterson is average at best.
Pierce had 113 FPs last year (2004).Peterson had 107 FPs in 2003 and 37 FPs through 4 1/4 games last year*.

*This projects to 139 FPs over a full 16-game season.

:confused:

Pierce will be a more consistent play for you week to week but Peterson is good enough that we will be worth considering when match up dictates.I expect Peterson to do well this year but it will be more up and down some huge games could win the game for you singlehandedly if you start him then.Look for when Pierce plays against pass heavy teams as he might not be your best option in those weeks. If Peterson is playing againt a poor Qb/Weak LT in the same week then you should maybe consider giving him the start depending on what other options you may have and how many Rbs you start of course.

Would rather designate one the starter than try and play match-ups.

Solo = 1

Sack = 2

FR = 3

FF = 2

PD = 1

INT = 3

TD = 6

Safety = 2

Bl. Kick = 3

Using this scoring:

Pierce had 113 FPs last year (2004).

Peterson had 107 FPs in 2003 and 37 FPs through 4 1/4 games last year*.

*This projects to 139 FPs over a full 16-game season.

Peterson's coming off of achilles surgery and questions remain about how SF switching to a 3-4 will affect his numbers.

Thoughts?
This scoring schedule (which devalues tackles) actually favors a player like Julian Peterson who makes more big plays than Antonio Pierce. However, until I see Peterson make it through an entire game on that repaired achilles I would start Pierce.

Nice insights!We start 1 DL/LB, 1 DB, and 2 Flex.

I went IDP early in the draft this year and nabbed 3 bonafide studs:

DL/LB: D.Edwards

DB: R.Harrison

Flex1: K.Bulluck

Part of my decision might be influenced by the fact that 3 of my 4 IDP spots are covered with players that are as close as can be in this game to being guaranteed weekly producers.

Might afford me the ability to gamble each week on Peterson, so that when he does go off, I'll collect.

However, am planning on starting out with Pierce (highly influenced by this thread),

and seeing how Peterson does the 1st couple of weeks in the 3-4 at 90% . . .

5 Solos1 PD2 1/2 sacks11 FPsCan only hope that he's only at 90% . . .(Pierce didn't disappoint though - 7 Solos, 1/2 sack, 1 PD)The toughest thing I'm dealing with now, is that Witherspoon, Brackett, June, Thurman, Dansby, Mitchell, Marshall and Quarles are all sitting out there as FAs . . .
