(KFFL) ComcastSportsNet.com reports, citing Profootballtalk.com, Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft pick DT Brodrick Bunkley was arrested in the past week for having a loaded handgun on the dashboard of his car. The report claims that efforts to have the charges dropped quietly were denied by prosecutors.

NFL has alot of new thugs in this years rookie class.

Alot of NFL rookies get guns or tazers or something. There was an article on this years ago where it's an almost instinctive reaction to getting lots of money and wanting to protect it. NFL goes to lengths to try and teach them ways to manage their money and keep it secure but it still happens. Suppose you got 4 mil and take a wad of $ to NYC and it's the first time you've ever been to NYC. Would you feel like a target for criminals? Then there's getting a bodyguard and wrestling with that notion where they're these giant muscular men that should have no prob defending themselves.I searched a bunch and can't find it, maybe someone else here remembers it and can. It was really pretty interesting

C'mon. Name me one other Florida State player who has gotten into trouble...

I do however agree that having that kind of cash would get a little worrisome, but even more than that is just being a recognized figure. People are crazy and want a piece of or to be associated with celebrities regardless of how it happens. Remember that dude who shot the girl from the TV show "My Sister Sam?" Some people aren't right in the head.

On the funny side, there was Stephon Marbury who is driving his Bentley in a tough part of NYC (or Jersey I can't remember which for sure) and some guy runs up to the open window of his car and grabs his $100,000 necklace and takes off with it. If you're driving a $200,000 car and wearing a $100,000 necklace at 2 am in a tough neighborhood then I gotta think you're asking for trouble. Common sense has to come into play at some point.

A LOADED HANDGUN ON THE FRONT DASHBOARD?Protect money by putting it in a bank and using a credit card. If it gets stolen, you aren't liable for charges.

I hung out with Brod and played video games with him a bunch at FSU. The only guns he would play with back then were in Halo. Maybe he has changed in the past year  Philly is a nasty city full of vicious animals, so I can't blame him for needing protection :D

This is just in the last year...A.J. Nicholson - charged last month with burglarizing the apartment of a former Florida State teammate. In December '05 he was accused of sexual assault. Nicholson was arrested on a DUI charge in February 2005, then in June 2005 on a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.

Ernie Sims - arrested August '05

Samari Rolle - arrested February '05

Broderick Bunkley is from Tampa, FLTampa, FL ranked 7th in most dangerous cities.

Philadelphia ranked 24th.

(I am not sure of the year of this chart)

Wow. Wonder if Kiper et al. would like to have a redo on some of their draft commentary. I will admit that I really wanted the Bills to take Bunkley, but he already has had two prior incidents that showed a lack of good judgement. Maybe Marv Levy is not as senile as everyone thinks.

Not true, you're confusing it with Camden. :bye:

Maybe we wouldn't have this problem if we let college athletes get paid, and if schools finally started teaching people how money works.

Peter Warrick/Laverneus Coles

How about that QB that went psycho? I don't know his name.
It was Wyatt Sexton....but come on the guy had Lyme Disease eating away at his brain...

:lmao: If nothing else, this is terrible timing for Bunkley. I just read today here in Philly that the negotiation process has been pretty ugly. Bunkley's agent won't let him talk to anyone with the Eagles and Andy Reid is getting really upset that Bunkley is losing so much valuable time. He's probably already lost the chance to start, at least at the beginning of the season. I would imagine that arguing over whether the contract should be 5 or 6 years could be small potatos compared to what the Eagles may go to if Bunkley was indeed arrested.

Yeah, and the only thing paying them would do is allow Bunkely to buy a nicer gun to get arrested with.

I was thinking the same thing. No doubt that when the pundits look back at the draft they'll simply remember that the bills reached, and completely forget the other players they "should" have taken.

Whether the players they passed over turn out or not, it still doesn't change the fact that they probably could have traded down and picked the same player later in the draft and gotten something else thrown in.

Just following the examples set by veteran NFL class acts. Hey the NFL is all about tradition.

It will always be up for debate, but the Bills pretty much stated that they attempted to trade down but couldn't get anyone to bite. The bottom line is that all of the talking heads railed on the Bills for taking Whitner and would have had no problem with the Bills taking Bunkley there instead. If Bunkley turns out to be a turd and Whitner is a star, then the Bills made the right decision and in no way reached for Whitner.

Time to post the Crocs with '05-'06 gun and legal issues instead?

I couldn't remember Bunk being in trouble before...Jaburglar, however...

It's not his fault...they give those away free to Florida State recruits.
That's why our team is always good, and your team (Colorado State) always sucks.
:lmao: I knew you'd pop up for that.I believe CSU is top 20 in wins over the last 10 years. Although the last two years have been painful (and may have knocked us down a bit), I know they were top 10 in wins not too long ago.

Save the argument about conferences and such, we know. My point is that I can enjoy the taste of victory about as much as anyone. Is it not as sweet? Sure it is. Actually, I enjoy it more. CSU runs a GREAT program with good kids that overachieve. I'll take it. I can root for thugs, pampered bazillionaires, and Superbowls in Pro sports, thank you.

Bunkley had to sit out an entire season for running around with a toy gun and holding someone up with it (he thought it was a friend). He also got in trouble for hiring a hooker.Looks like he wasn't the guy this time though. Hopefully these incorrect reports haven't hurt his bargaining position. Perhaps Levy is senile after all :D

Not only was it Gaffney, but it happened OVER A MONTH AGO. Idiots all around.
I hope you're calling Comcast & profootball idiots and not any of the posters on this forum idiots, if not i'd have to break this out:
Steven Jackson will be the #1 RB in FF.
Oops. :o
I was calling the reporting idiotic. And if you would like to provide context next time, that Steven Jackson comment was in the "wacky predictions" thread.

Now feel free to shut up.

 Lock the thread or rename it or something. Bunkley is a good guy, quit trashing him just because he came from FSU :) .

I thought that was Winston Justice, not Bunkley.

A lot of FSU players are easy to root for. Over the years, players like Derrick Brooks, Charlie Ward, Drew Weatherford, Leon Washington, were and are all A++++ people. But you never hear about them. I don't particularly care, I don't expect most average people (not necessarily Sonny) to actually abstain from idiotic stereotypes. Almost every college program has its bad seeds. And Bowden has never been on probation, so he must be doing something right.
