Jack Bauer Lives? (1 Viewer)

eh... 24 was a great concept but there was an awful lot of ####ty writing (Terri's amnesia, Kim getting trapped by a mountain lion, more moles than a dermatologist's dumpster, and terrorist plots that even Rube Goldberg would consider overcomplicated.)

I had never watched this show, despite it being one of my favorite genres. Not sure why I never watched it. Been catching up on it via netflix, on about the 4th episode of season 2. I must say, I'm not sure (so far) why it has/had garnered so much attention. It's entertaining enough, but imo it's just not as great as many make it out to be. Unless the greatness is in the seasons I have not yet seen. Some of the acting/writing and camera work is not good. I'll stick with it, but again, just wanted to see what all the hub bub was about. Not very impressed like I was hoping to be.

I thought the first four seasons were terrific. After that the quality declined although I thought the final season was rather enjoyable. Killing Terri in the Season 1 finale was a pretty bold move at the time. There was an inherent level of implausibility that hung around throughout the series (the seemingly neverending series of moles at ICU for example) but the one constant was Jack. For me, he was always compelling even if the characters and/or storylines around him were not. Kiefer Sutherland was absolutely brilliant in the role from start to finish. I honestly don't care who else is in the next series or what it's about. As long as Jack Bauer's around I'm in.

I enjoyed the first few seasons and struggled to make it through to the end of the show's run.

I seriously doubt I'll give this a shot.

I agree, though I thought Season 5 was the best.

I'm not sure 24 can really be properly appreciated looking at it through a 2013 lens. TV has improved so much since 24 started that it'd be hard to understand just how awesome it was and the flaws almost be too glaring to enjoy for some.

In a pre-Walter White TV world, I just don't remember being so enthralled in a TV show as I was when Teri died, or watching Jack talk to Kim flying a nuke into the desert, or watching Jack save Audrey and her dad, or the first 10 minutes of Season 5. So many gripping TV moments.

I loved 24, but I could see how someone watching in 2013 for the first time wouldn't think it's very good.

I'm pretty excited about the reboot. The 24 hour thing was a nice hook to start, but it became a huge obstacle. We live in a world of 12 episode seasons now for good reason. It's nearly impossible to put out 20+ episodes of great drama each season. That's a big factor people overlook when ripping 24. I'm excited to see what they can do with 12 episodes.

Season 1- good

Season 2- very good

Season 3- very good

Season 4- great

Season 5- very good

Season 6- awful

Season 7- good

Season 8- OK

:goodposting: Hopefully fewer episodes = a tighter plot and please for the love of god no moles inside CTU!

I remember reading that the writers never had a full season's plot mapped out. Everything was written as the show went along, and I think that was to the detriment of the final product. The last 3 seasons or so were just wheels spinning in mud.

Hopefully they actually form a complete plot before filming.

I loved Season 3. Don't get the hate for that season. Jack kicks heroin's ### in about an hour. He finally kills Nina. Vanessa Ferlito.

I did not like Season 5 as much as many others because they killed off all the remaining supporting characters I cared about (I won't even speak of the butcher job they did on Tony after bringing him back from the dead). That was my primary issue with the show after Season 4 - there were no supporting characters I really cared about. In the first four seasons Jack's story wasn't the only one I was invested in.

I'm in. Agree that a couple of seasons were clunkers at the end, but this show had some fantastic moments.

I hope Chloe is out imo.

Also, I hope to again see Jack shoot a captive in the arm, and then jam his pistol into the bullet wound while demanding answers. Simply fantastically brutal.

There are still a few dangling threads from the show too. Like that hot brunette chick who f'ed things up and then escaped. I think it was that chick who was on Dollhouse. Never saw her again I think.

ETA: Eliza Dushku I think Did some research. It was Mia Kirshner in the Mandy role. But I guess that was sort of resolved in Season 4.

Oh and  is back..

Rajskub, who plays Chloe, said she closely followed Internet speculation about the series return and waited eagerly to find out whether she'd be included.

"I have a lot of people who refuse to call me anyone but Chloe," she said. "I never thought '24' would come back and in this format."

Yup. Just switched mine back to it.

Pretty geeked about it. Just wish it was more than just 12 episodes. I guess I was spoiled before...
The previous seasons were bloated to fill out 24 episodes. This time around we may be spared from mountain lions, if not from moles.

I strugged to make it to the show's end, but enough time has passed that I think I'll give it a shot.

You guys with the CTU ring on your cell phones... I don't have a personal cell, and my work phone is a flip phone, otherwise I would. :kicksrock:
