Anybody know the scoop in JAX?

I've been assuming Taylor is the guy- unless (if and when) he get's injured. Is that right? What's the depth chart behind him? FBG has it Toefield (short yardage), Pearman (3rd down) and Drew (KR)- but Jones as the FB. Anybody know anything else/more?

Thanks.

I have a hard time seeing Taylor making the final roster actually.

If he does, Taylor will take 60% of the carries, with Jones picking up 20-25%, and Drew and Pearman fighting for a 3rd down role. I dont see Toefield on the team unless Taylor get released.

If Taylor is cut in August, I expect Jones to lead the team in carries, with Drew providing a change of pace, Pearman assuming a 3rd down role, and Toefield being inactive for 16 games.

Early word from mini camp is Fred looked really good. I would be surprised if he was cut, I don't think Del Rio would want to go into the season depending on so many inexperienced players on offense now that Smith is gone.

My guess would be Fred gets to lead the team unless he gets injured. If he gets injured a lot will depend on how Drew is coming along. Jones and Drew could be another Dunn/Duckett type combo. I think Drew would get a lot more yards if this happens due to explosive plays.

There's been talk of Taylor getting cut, but I'd be really surprised if it happened. I see this as Taylor's last year with the Jags with rookie Maurice Drew being the heir apparent. I think Del Rio would like to keep Greg Jones at FB.

Drew is flying under the radar for the most part (even in dynasty leagues). He was a 2nd round pick & has mad skills. I look for a big year in '07.

Fred's the man. As long as he's healthy, nobody else is worth a start for fantasy.Though it is pretty predictable that he will miss a game or 10.

Greg Jones filled in alright last year, so I'd think he's the starter if (when) Taylor goes down

Hi Diesel,Are you seriously suggesting Taylor might not make the roster?

I'd be quite surprised if Taylor wasn't on the roster. He's the best RB there ....still. I see a nice mixture of Taylor/Jones.

:goodposting: I agree 100%. I'd just like to add that I think that Toefield has MUCH better chance of being cut than Taylor. As long as Taylor can stay healthy, and he has supposedly lost 8-10 pounds for extra quickness, the job is his. I can see Taylor putting up a bunch of yards, but not many TDs. Jones will probably get the goal-line carries and Drew is a much better receiver than Fred, so Drew (or maybe even Pearman) will be in on 3rd and goal from the 5.

One last thought - Mike Tice is a buffoon for a HC, but I think he'll help the Jags offensive line play immensely.

Drew will be the man!
Are you also a Quentin Griffin fan?Quentin - Oklahoma University - 2002 stats

287 att. 1884 yds 6.6 avg. 15 tds (rushing)

Drew - UCLA - 2005 stats

186 att. 914 yds 4.9 avg. 13 tds (rushing)

I don't understand all the love for Drew and all the hate for Quentin. At best they are one and the same. I guess you should hope that the Jaguars (IF Drew plays) play the Chiefs the entire 16 game season.

The guy is a midget...but hey...it worked for Quentin.

He may be short, but he is built like a brick house. A major difference in build versus the slender Q-tip.

Let me preface this by saying I am not a Q-tip fan...but I just want to hear the justification as to why people think Drew will be better than Q. Q is not "slender". Have you seen his tree-trunk thighs? They are built very similarly. Q had a better college career but Drew is gonna be a stud? Didn't work out too well for Q.

Talk by who? Not that I've tried looking everywhere, but I haven't heard that yet (until the two of you mentioned it here).

Maurice Drew is the starter here with Jones at FB

steal him while you can in the last round of redrafts. He's this year's Chris Brown (from '04)

fragile getting cut would be a shock

Maurice Drew has missed most of the OTAs here due to the late graduation date(and court case). For him to be the Opening Day starter would be a surprise.

I wouldn't hold my breath for him as the opening day starter... but he'll get it soon into the season. And for a free late-round flier, tremendous value. Those are deep-sleeper hit-or-miss picks anyway.

Same OL?

never any love for Greg Jones. the man just produces when given the chance but it always seems they want to replace him. why is that? if they put him back to FB i wouldn't be surprised if he was mad as hell. does anyone know his contract status? i couldn't imagine him taking an extension in Jax when they show him no respect.

finicky board, last year I was saying pearman had a shot, everyone declared jones the most likely heir.. drew, pearman, is Q in jax now?? they all seem the same kinda guy... fred is fragile, leaves jones..

Jones has a career 3.5 ypc average, and didn't really impress me last year.

Isn't Drew a runt?Pearman could do just as well or better than Drew IMO, and he has fantastic hands. However, he's more suited as a 3rd down back, but Drew doesn't exactly have work horse written on him either.

Drew carrying a full time load is doubtful, but I wouldn't completely dismiss him due to his size. Even as a part time player someone explosive like Drew can have an impact. There is no doubt there will be a back Drew's size that is able to stay healthy and make it as a feature runner in the NFL. Will it be Drew? Not sure, but if you pay no attention to these small guys you will miss out on a stud eventually. I wasn't playing FF when Sanders came into the league, but I guess there were a ton of people saying he could never make it due to his size either. And no I'm not comparing Drew to Sanders, so settle down snapperheads (you know who you are).

I for one drafted Drew in the second round of my dynasty rookie draft and will gladly take the chance he could be the next small back to make it.

No idea of where the talk about Taylor being cut came from, but I believe there is zero chance of that happening.

Health is the only thing holding Taylor back from having a nice season.

Taylor's heir apparent is not currently a Jaguar.
