Report: Jaguars ready to part with Northcutt

According to profootballtalk.com, the Jaguars have given Dennis Northcutt permission to seek a trade.

Owed close to $10M through 2011, the 31-year-old slot receiver/punt returner won't bring much in return. The Jags' willingness to part with Northcutt says a lot about their trust in rookies Jarett Dillard, Mike Thomas and Tiquan Underwood, all of whom have earned praise from the coaching staff during OTAs. It also solidifies Mike Walker as the starter opposite Torry Holt. Jun. 24 - 9:41 am et

Also, I'm not convinced Mike Walker will ever be healthy, so both Dillard and Thomas and / or Underwood may be fantasy relevant this year. For sure one will man the slot, but keep in mind the Jags are a run first offense.

I think this means more for Thomas' stock than Dillard's. Thomas is a more talented version of Northcutt, Dillard's game isn't much like either of there's. Walker and Holt's knees are what stands in the way of Dillard being a deeper fantasy option, as long as they're both around Dillard should be more limited and too inconsistent to be relied on.

I'm hearing more buzz about Dillard than Thomas right now, especially for the slot.

x2

I'm hearing buzz about Underwood! He has the size to be the complete package at WR. I think they've had a fantastic draft this year for wide outs and see this group as 6 deep when including the TE Zach Miller.

Marcedes Lewis? I can't see Miller unseating him this year.

Northcutt looked really good at the end of the year, so I wouldnt completely write him off if he gets cut - he'll catch on somewhere.

Good point. It's always a must to take into consideration who's getting cut and his possible situation as well as who benefits from his being cut. Sometimes we forget this.

Not much intel out there on this one except Koetter excited about his Jags

It's been pretty quiet inside there it seems and like Koetter says, they won't really know if they truly have something with the 3 rooks until preason games start. He doesn't tip his hand here at all really and they could suddenly be 4 deep with good young talent "behind" Holt.

They say Walker is healthy. Some things are just freak happenings and when they clear, the guy can move on. It's hard to ignore all the positive remarks you always hear from people that observe him on a dialy basis though.

Guys who keep talking about Walker having bad knees don't have a clue. I'm so tired of going over this, I just won't do it any more.

I hadn't read anything about Dillard in the slot, what you got?

from 6/17 per rotoworld....According to Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, fifth-round WR Jarett Dillard has surpassed expectations in his transition to the slot.

"He has surprised me every day," added Koetter. "He has a real natural feel for football. His timing, getting in seams, running option routes, showing great hands. He's exceeded my personal expectations after his college film." Rice may not leapfrog Dennis Northcutt this season, but he should be on Dynasty league radars.

Chronic knee issues isn't just a freak happening.

sounds like a DIllard or Thomas dynasty owner. I'd take a chance on a WR that has been in the league 2-3 years and has had a breakout game of 7rec-100 over those rookies allday.

The question isn't whether one of these guys will replace Walker, but which one will be the WR #3 (slot) receiver, and that doesn't include Walker if he's a starter LOL. Then......if Walker's knees act up again.....and they will......, the other one not relevant (either Thomas or Dillard (probably Thomas)) will move right in.

I love Mike Walker this year
Especially with people who don't frequent FBG. You can get Walker in some redraft leagues very late I am guessing and he could pay big dividends. Redrafters will be taking Holt, and some may fall in love with the rookie hype perhaps of Dillard or Thomas as well.
