Jags WRs M. Jones, R. Williams Currently Starting (1 Viewer)

Definatly didnt see that. I havent seen anything out of Reggie Williams in the NFL and Wilford I thought was solid last year.

Surprised to see Reggie Williams with the 1st team.
Dont be. Him and Chad Owens are notorious for great performances in minicamp and in training camp. Though as a jags fan for the last many years, I have to say that this is the most excited I've ever been with Reggie Williams. Him and Byron have really found a connection in minicamp and on several occasions he's burned Mathis deep for a TD. He's in great shape and is always putting in the work- although it hasnt really translated into stats. If you will remember correctly- Williams was carving himself a niche as the #2 alongside Jimmy Simth when he was rocked with two concussions, opening the door for wilford. However, his play pre-injury was very solid. I dont expect a 'breakout' year in that I cant see him top 1000 yards per se, but i wont rule out a solid season. In fact, I spot him a great deal of improvement bumping him to the 750-850 yard range for the year. As for wilford, Reggie Williams has clearly been the star of the offseason thus far and may be pushing Wilford for a starting spot. Lets not forget here, that Wilford led the league in the ratio of 'drops per on-target passes" Regardless, word around camp is that Jones will be the #1 and is expected to mold himself into a downfield threat (in fact, Del Rio has made him study tapes of Randy Moss' routes)- hopes are that with his speed, results will follow. IMHO, Wilford will win back the #2 role leaving Owens and Williams as wildcards- with Del Rio praising both Reggie Williams' overall performance and raving about Chad Owens route running ability- it seems as if both will make a run at some playing time.

Prospects are exciting for all Jags' recievers- expect all of them to improve upon last years stats.

People need to cut Williams some slack and realize that he came into the league very young while Wilford was a 25 year old rookie.

Maybe, but when a WR just a month older, who has never played the position, outplays him as a rookie, that excuse loses weight.

Thie time of year is difficult to take things as literal as we fantasy guys would like. I found this article yeaterday (also from Jaguars.com):

Jaguars | Wilford hoping to be No. 1 receiver

Published Fri Jun 16 4:56:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ernest Wilford plans to compete through the offseason to earn the job as No. 1 receiver. While WR Matt Jones is currently taking reps as the team's 'X' receiver, the slot held by WR Jimmy Smith last season, Wilford feels he has what it takes to become the team's main target and to become an elite receiver in the NFL. "I want to get across that water this year. I want to get to the Pro Bowl. I think I have a legitimate shot," Wilford said.

in fairness, jones may be one of the most physically gifted WR prospects (albeit a QB conversion, as were hines ward & anquan boldin... though they obviously got a lot more WR reps in college) in league history... his measurables are VASTLY superior to reggie...reggie could in theory suffer in comparison with jones & still be really good some day... this is an important season for him, but i thought last year was, too...

I'll believe it when I see it, but I do agree that Wilford is overrated. I really never understood why people around here were so quick to anoint him the #1.

wilford isn't playing the Y position?
I don't know, but it's a moot point. The cream rises to the top and I'm willing to bet that Ernest Wilford is not the cream of the Jaguars WR crop.

why? They don't run 3 WR sets?
My point is that the best player will put up the best stats. X, Y, and Z are just letters right now.

Wilford should be more concerned with helping his team win than hitting the pro bowl. One is attainable, the other a pipe dream.

I don't agree with your thinking, however I'll play along. If Wilford is the Y then he's running with the first unit in training camp when they're in 3 WR sets. Since NO wide receiver spot is settled that's all a young WR can hope for...running with the first team.http://scoreboards.aol.com/football/nfl/te.../team_news.aspx

This AP story lists Wilford starting opposite Jones in practice but also quotes the coach as saying nothing is settled. I don't think FBGs provided a bad link but just that it's just that ...unsettled. They're seeing who looks best.

Remember(as stated in the article) Wilford took Williams' job and Del Rio never went back to Williams last year.

I have found that the most accurate site for Depth Charts is www.ourlads.com. For whatever reason, they are always more up to date and accurate than either NFL.com, or the specific team websites themselves.

Ourlads has Wilford ahead of Williams.

I wouldn't doubt jaguars.com was accurate and AP was too. Del Rio's just trying things and today might look different than tomorrow. Someone will get the lion's share of reps soon enough
