**Jaguars at Titans** (-3.5, 40) 1:00 (1 Viewer)

there's not a lot positive to say here-
Both teams really need to see their youthful players play well and give them hope for 2025.

The Titans curiously usually win at home versus the Jags regardless of record. They're 19-6 at home since 1999.

Should be big days from Ridley and Pollard for the Titans, might be some others you can add to this list
Brian Thomas stands out for the Jags, Mac Jones hasn't been awful for him thus far

This feels like a game the Jags screw up and win. I actually think the Jags defense does a pretty good job this week as they match up pretty well with the Titans, especially on the line, as you have rookie JC Latham and backup caliber players (on a good day) Nicholas Petit-Frere and Dillon Radunz, responsible for blocking Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead. I could see this being anther game where Will Levis gets sacked 5+ times. I think Pollard and Ridley are startable, but I'm not super excited about it.

One guy I am excited about this week, is Evan Engram. He quietly has at least 5 catches or a TD in every game he's finished this season. The Titans rank among the top-10 against TEs, but they haven't faced any really good ones yet. I think Engram is absolutely a top-8 TE this week, with top-3 upside.

Jaguars-23
Titans-16

The eye test tells me The Titans may be the better team
But The Jags may find a way out of the number one pick
As awful as they've been this year they could find a way to get to the third pick
I think the kickers both have a big day
So...

Jags- 16
Titans- 15

Sweat may not play due to a shoulder injury. He already seems a future star and difference maker. The Titans are two excellent DL and good luck dealing with the rest. Welp...without the anchor, I have doubts in the DL ability to stop the run.
Both starting ILBs didn't practice and are questionable.
We may get to see Cedric Gray and James Williams but last week they played Gifford in relief. Gifford is a former starter that's slowish but intelligent- a Vrabel guy really- and he was on the PS.
Gray was supposedly a draft steal or great pick but he hasn't played yet and there were maturity growing pains in camp.
Williams is a converted safety that looked very good in camp and preseason and hasn't played.
It could be a positive twist the starters are hurt or it could be a disaster.
Last week, a stout run defense broke like a dam. I've never seen Sweat or Simmons pushed around and maybe never will again. The ILBs weren't in the gaps making plays and...it was bad. Like 200+ yards bad.

Definitely concerned Sweat might not play or might not be himself. If he plays, if the rookies play-, then the Jags have three wow athletes to be aware of. If the rookies play as rookies then ETN could run all day.

McCreary is out in the opinion of early talk show hosts- not one word from Titans, too early.

Excellent rookie Jarvis Brownlee will move into McCreary's slot spot as Awuzie returns from IR.
Brownlee has been so good as an outside corner. Awuzie is a (sincere) pro bowler so I guess the rook gets bounced. He's so good though and I worry of changing his spot.

Safety Hooker is a very good not great safety that has been so out of sorts lately. He was having a great year and then caught out of position a few times and pushed aside like nothing at the LOS on goalline passes. Wilson has to settle him down and coach him thru this.
Mike Brown was playing great. He was thrown at as often as a safety can and making plays left n right. Very impressive for a journeyman backup. A few weeks ago, he made a clean legal hit and was flagged and fined for it. It was a (small) common discussion, what's a guy to do etc. The Texans ran the same exact play and he was gunshy and let Nico catch it rather than put his shoulder into him. He got benched which most watching completely disagree with. You coach him thru that.
Worley was a recently signed PS safety that was thrust into the lineup and he's not been good. For IDP he's incredible with 17 tackles last week but nothing is good about a defense if a safety gets 17 tackles.

Being able to run at will and throw deep at will made the Commanders day and they destroyed the Titans.
Denard Wilson has been a magician til that point and a sure bet coaching interview and all the praise. Last week was a kick at his knees and he has to fix these holes.

HC Callahan has had very little to do with the D. They were the top defense and the top pass defense. There is enough talk but not proven true or false that he meddled with the D last week. Reporters tried to ask but were a bit gunshy themselves and...it still seems like it may have happened.

That's a BIG story if true and one where he could lose his job and heck they could just make Denard the HC too. Regardless, the safe play is handsoff and let Denard deal with the defense. They've been the line bright spot just take the credit as the HC and leave it be.

Last week was what the? Why do they stink?

There's reason to think the Jags rock and reasons to think they get shut down handily.

McCreary, ILB Baker and Murray inactive so... we'll see.

Also Jahquan Jackson so there will be a new returner.

Watson inactive so they're not likely to sub for NPF

Didn't see starters announced but I see Gifford and Reese.
Unbelievable frustrating choice

Gifford just remained still, ETN ran to him for like 7-8 yards. No attack! Don't wait for him!

Reese is another converted safety and useful utility guy. He's not starter level

Gifford crashed in that time and made a stuff or TFL
Little pass to ETN and Gifford isn't anywhere fast enough so he gets a nice gain.

Cmon! Put the rookies in! This is so predictably bad

Throw to Strange, Gifford trailing a good bit behind first down.
Screen to ETN Gifford with tackle but after 9 yards
Jones to Parker who is right by Gifford

Cmon! This is so brutal!

Bryce Oliver with another big catch
Seeing it early maybe he actually plays more like the coach said?

Pollard short TD called back for holding
He was patient but took a little long, that's kind of hard for the OL running with him wide

Jags D has been sleeping
Waking up on this goalline series

Good throwaway Levis
And again! IDC if it's third down on GL, good throwaway

Big Jeff at FB on fourth and pass a bit high to Vannett.
Struck out and awakened the Jags defense

On that drive the Titans were about pretending Levis is Tua and they had little flip handoffs and shovels and....umm it worked. Everyone would have said he's the last guy to do that with but it worked well.

Spears still doesn't have spark like last week. He's a smidge off and not beating the D to the corner.
That was a great drive that included "everyone" and stinks no points from the four

Sebastian Joseph Day stuffed Bigsby twice.
I think they lost a yard.

Great smashing for a first by Engram. He earned that. Titans missed out on super field position.

Veteran Landry hits Jones on the run they smile and pat heads after. Gotta be residual from Texans talk this week. Nice sportsmanship by both

Welp Will Levis is dead.

Last play of the half he got absolutely crunched on a blindside sack and fell right now his injured shoulder.

EDIT: really dude?

Jones with a Levis imitiation from earlier in the season. Clearly going down and chucks it to Otis Reese rather than take the sack.

Hines Allen smashes into Levis and he may be out with that shoulder again. That certainly looked like the type of hit that could cause that

Levis has been better and also stronger. Ya see the arms.
It 💯 looks like the kid did all you could ask during an injury
It's a shame if he's out

The Jags got a lot of gifts on that last drive.
One the WR clearly wasn't passed the first but they gave it to him.
The rest were a lot of pushing off by the WRs. Eventually Thomas was called but I like this and the Titans never do it. They saw the refs not calling much so they got physical. I like that awareness by a coach

This is such a Vrabel-like game.
If they score it'll be how the plan worked perfectly

I'll take the win but all it does is make me miss Henry

Jags at 11 Titans have all timeouts.
First Bigsby maybe a yard
Illegal shift. Timeout called, I think they get it back.
Bigsby nothing (Reese has done better but Gifford has not at all!) timeout.
3rd again Bigsby for four. Reese and Day tackle. Timeout
Punt coming from end zone.
Titans will have one timeout

Jags rookie CB nice play
Ridley ain't good enough to throw to when the stadium knows it's going to him. Almost INT
Shocker NPF penalty
4th and 15 expected Jags timeout

Need a first.
Throw to Boyd twice because he's not old and he earned the respect in TEN

I swear...this team...omg

Surprise all those plays at Gifford mattered

I don't even like either teams attitude in the on field fist bumps and how ya been time.

No one seems happy they won or sad they lost?

It all looked off all day. Both sides. Lot of issues with hustle and effort and all
