Jimmy smith has been the #1 receiver in jacksonville since he's been there.. with his retirement, who do you see taking over that #1 spot..

reggie williams, ernest wilford or matt jones?

i see wilford taking over the spot this year after showing his big play ability towards the end of last year.. if he can do it with consistency, he has a shot..

reggie williams was their first round pick in 2004. hasn't quite lived up to the hype, but has definately been solid.. i see him excelling as the #2

matt jones is a guy with a ton of potential, but is still pretty raw at the WR position.. he has been working hard, but i think he needs another year or two to get the position down..

thoughts?

the correct answer is no one. Jimmy was an elite receiver for many moons. It will take some seasoning beyond what the current crop of receivers has before anyone hopes to fill his shoes. J'ville fans can only hope the young guys were really paying attention when Jimmy was playing last year.

For what its worth, I hear that Matt Jones is practicing in his spot.
i heard that as well, also heard that wilford has shown the most improvement on and off the field over last season and the offseason.. either way, jimmy smith had around 100 targets a year that will be going elsewhere..

its hard to tell this early, but i dont think the jags will be bringin in any other receivers.. they will work with what they have, until the season gets closer or more permanent info comes out.. best guess is all we have

FYI.The Jags recently signed Wide Recievers Troy Edwards & Randy Hymes.

they both were signed for depth and to push competition in camp a bit.. neither will get a starting role.. i meant they wont bring anyone in to instantly be the #1 or #2 in Jax.reggie williams in my view hasn't really done much or lived up to expectations yet.. i think he would be suited for the slot right now.. unless he has an insanely good TC, the 1 and 2 spot are between jones and wilford
