Jamaal Charles vs. Felix Jones (1 Viewer)

I find the vastly varying opinions on Jamaal Charles to be intriguing. Trying to form my own opinion before my start up drafts this year, I thought Felix Jones was a pretty good comparison and barometer for Jamaal, as far as fantasy projections go. Obviously their situations are different. Both have proven TD vultures that will likely eat into their TD points this season, at the very least. Both will rely on long runs to score and both are capable of turning them in. Both are threats out of the backfield and have big upside in a PPR format. Both will get return yards and potential to score on special teams, for leagues that compensate for them. Where they start to differ is the obvious. Felix has not been healthy and has two capable backs ready and willing to carry some of the burden. Charles has only produced for half of a season, but only has a 32 year old Jones behind him and will likely get the large majority of the teams carries between the 20s. As other Cowboys fans know, when Felix is on, the ball moves down the field and he looks elite. He has not been given the opportunity to be the main guy and find a rhythm like Charles has. A large part of that is due to injury, which of course one must take into consideration.

Taking all into consideration, how do you rank them? Can either of them hold up for a full season? Will Felix ever get a shot to be the guy? Is the bigger, stronger Felix going to have more redzone value down the line? How long will Charles be KC's biggest weapon? Will the Cowboys rely on the run with all of their weapons?

Myself, I see Charles as having more value. He presents the most potential for a big season, this year. He also doesn't have the compitition that Felix does. But I think it is closer than most. I see Charles as a round 3 nab while I would wait a few more picks to consider Felix. But I don't feel comforable with either of them being my RB1, even with a solid #2.

EDIT: I have Charles as RB#13 and Felix around 15 or 16 if I recall. (I am at work and can't check)

I love Felix's talent and actually just made a trade to acquire him. I paid alot for him cause I think he has a very high ceiling.......the scary thing is his floor is

VERY LOW. He has talent around him, a td vulture and a good passing offense.

If Felix can stay healthy he will keep the other rb's on the bench but one injury opens the door and I still think Choice is a very talented back.

Charles is talented as well but the difference is he is the going to be the focal point of KC's offense. True he might lose some carries to TJ and some td's but he is going to get touches.

Being a Texas fan I will tell you right now that I think Charles will be underpreform this year. I saw it for 3 years where Texas wanted him to be the man and he just never stepped up to the plate. He doesn't have what you need to be "the guy" in thsi league IMO.

I'd say both have their question marks but give me Felix

I own both in a 10 team dynasty league. I anticipate starting Charles more often than Jones (behind my RB1 Mendenhal). I just see Charles being handed the ball far more than Jones. That could change if Jones goes on a tear and Dallas decides to really ride Jones over Barber/Choice. I just don't see that happening though. Dallas just has too many weapons to warrant funneling their offense through Jones. KC doesn't. Not by a long shot. They've got Charles, a 32 year old backup, a rookie WR and Dwayne Bowe (not sure what the hell he is these days). So basically they've got Charles.

Talentwise they're very similar in my opinion. But the situation is so much better (by being worse) in KC that I'd give the nod to Charles.

Too close to call for this year imo.

Dynasty wise I'd prefer Felix.

Gun to my head I probably grab Felix this year too, but in PPR I might go with Charles.

I see that line of thinking, but I don't agree with it.I like guys from good offenses. If Dallas is putting up 35 points, and KC is putting up 10, having the #1 guy from that team isn't so great.

I can see where you're coming from. But I'd rather have the only option on a team than one of six. To each his own. I'm just glad I have them both.
