James Harrison calls the Commish a "Devil... (1 Viewer)

I seen this article and thought, gees, why do't he just put a larger target on his back?http://www.phillyburbs.com/sports/football/steelers-harrison-to-magazine-goodell-a-devil/article_3f1bddfd-4602-5688-bfb0-d0a5a7e69fa5.htmlSaying these things does not do him or his team any good.
Classy.

I like the guy

Even though I don't like Goodell either, these statements are just awful.

This guy is a complete ##### bag and I hope he will be fined again and again until he finally retires from football. Would be hard though to find a new job as idiotic as he is.

I think his comments about his teammates are worse than what he says about Goodell. Funny, i don't remember Harrison being a huge difference maker in the Super Bowl either.

Yea I was surprised that he called his teammates out. Not so much what he said about his boy Roger though haha. $100,000 is a lot of money, I'm sure he's bitter.

And Harrison suggests the real way to prevent head injuries is to shorten the season to 14 games, start offseason workouts later and trim the length of training camp so "we're not bangin' heads so much in August; that's where the brain trauma comes from."
Yeah, it wasn't the clear and obvious headshot on Massaquoui that left him immediately wobbly legged that caused the concussion, it was all the work in August. It's really a shame people keep providing this idiot with the opportunity to speak.

I agree that Goodell is evil but I don't see any purpose in running your mouth and making a bigger target of yourself and your team.

I also don't see the point in throwing your QB under the bus, especially when the defense didn't exactly play a stellar game in SB either. And I don't recall Roethlisberger knocking the defense during the 2009 season when they continually folded in the 4th quarter.

Harrison is a heckuva player but he is an idiot.

I also heard that Harrison called the commissioner a phag. He'll get in trouble for that and deserves to.

What a moron.

Heres part of what he says about Big Ben

"Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain't that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does."

Harrison is way out of line. The first pick was as Ben was getting hit and even Manning throws a pick now and then. Harrison had ONE tackle in the SB -- he needs to shut up.

He'll probably do what many other Steelers' stars have done in the past. Be replaced (surprisingly well) by a younger unknown that does it for a lot less $. The star signs one last big contract with some other team but makes very little difference for them and fades into obscurity. Only reason he gets to talk so much is that he plays OLB for **** LeBeau.

Wow, that is a serious putdown of Ben.

I think its strange that the media treats the Steelers organization and team as if they are this great model franchise and the players all good guys, etc. In reality, 4 of the 5 faces of their franchise are clowns. Ben with all the boozing and raping. Hines with the DUI and the dirtiest player awards. Rashard Mendenhall with the twitter. And Harrison who may be one of the dumbest guys in the NFL. If any other team had that many prominent turds, they'd get killed in the media, but not the precious steelers....

On high and low hits:

“I get dinged about three times a year and don’t know where I am for a little minute. But unless I’m asleep, you’re not getting me out of the game, and most guys feel the same way. If a guy has a choice of hitting me high or low, hit me in the head and I’ll pay your fine. Just don’t hit me in the knee, ‘cause that’s life-threatening. How’m I going to feed my family if I can’t run?”

On the 2004 season:

“I should have another ring. We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes [in the AFC title game]. They got busted for it later, but, hey, they’re Goodell’s boys, so he slapped ‘em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? Man, hell no!”

On the two interceptions thrown by Ben Roethlisberger in last year’s Super Bowl:

“Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”

On Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu:

“He’s the one guy in football I respect absolutely, ‘cause he’s spiritual and lives it like he talks it. You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin’. He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell he could tell Goodell to kiss his ###, and Goodell would smile and say thank you.”

Stupid mouthy idiot who also thinks it's OK to go headhunting and maim other players on the field. I hope he's saved his money because when this scumbag is out of the NFL nobody is going to want him for anything.

He's a great player, but I would cut him in a heartbeat if I could. I really, really, really dislike that guy and I've felt that way for a long time. The Stillers are my boys, but I wish he wasn't one.

This.Just stow it and go play football, James.FWIW, I can't recall a single time that ol' Ben Gray has ever thrown the defense/a teammate under the bus how Harrison's doing here. Drama queen crap about "injuries?" Yes. Throwing a teammate under the bus, a la Harrison here? No.

#1 The Steelers organization was very much embarrassed by the Roethlisberger situation. Considering their investment in the guy and the fact the guy was never charged or arrested there really wasn't much they could do about it. #2 Ward may be considered a dirty player by some players but he is respected about the league. His off-the-field persona has been great so I am not sure what you are getting at there. The DUI occurred only a few days ago.#3 Rashard Mendenhall has not been a face of the organization. He is rarely interviewed by national media and is usually soft spoken. I don't agree with how he worded his tweet but all he was really saying is that he didn't like all of the celebrating in the streets when Bin Laden was killed. Does that make him a bad character - I don't think so.#4 Obviously Harrison is a dolt. A very good player but a complete moron. All teams have turds. The reason the Steelers are considered a model franchise is because they win, plain and simple.

According to the research the constant banging heads in practise does more damage long term than the kill shots, so Harrison is correct.

What a complete fool.

Just when it's no longer embarrassing to be a Pirates fan because of their play on the field, it's now become embarrassing to be a Steeler fan because of their actions off the field.

Say what you want about Harrison, he's dumb, dirty, etc., alot of that is true. But the guy is 100% about winning football games. He will do whatever it takes to win and he is focused on the game 24/7. I think the shot at Ben is mainly a case of Harrison still being bitter about the SB loss. Harrison feels like Goodell has tarnished his reputation as a great football player to a dirty one. Most of his bitter comments have to do with football. It consumes him for better or worse. Harrison is a throwback in every sense of the word and I admire that in many ways.

He also took a shot a Mendenhall for the fumble. There are a lot of plays in a football game and there were many opportunities for Harrison and the defense to stop the Packers. A guy with one tackle has no room to talk about others.I don't care much about what he said about Goodell. It was toolish but at least it wasn't towards anyone in the Steelers organization. My guess is that it won't matter once training camp starts but I really don't like to see one Steeler throw other Steelers under the bus.

By throwback, you mean back to neanderthal time period?

Holy smokes. Too much to digest. As if the article wasn't enough, the main picture has him sporting a couple guns. That is an image the NFL has been trying to shed.

I like Harrison a lot. I think much of this is him trying to get some attention so I take much of it with a grain of salt but I can not get on board with some of the slurs. Most of us have found ourselves using them in one way or another, but I think Harrison went out of his way to drop it. Plus, he had to know that would shed more shadow on the NFL. Premeditated. He's a public image. One that people are thirsty to consume. He can't say some of that stuff.

Sure he can, just look at some of the idiotic defenses of him in this thread. I just heard one the Raven's defensive players saying the same thing on the radio, "he should not get suspended because he has a freedom of speech". Do we need to go any further than this issue to demonstrate how failed our education system is. Probably our most important right as a citizen and people do not have a clue. FREEDOM OF SPEECH ONLY PERTAINS TO POLITICAL SPEECH without suffering ramifications. It has nothing to do with the rest of the world we live in. As many know, go tell your boss what Harrison said about his and fall back on I can say it and you cannot do anything about it because I have the freedom of speech. See if you still have a job. It is always easy for everyone to second guess anyone in authority (it has become the national past time I think). Especially someone like Harrison who carries about no one but himself. :boxing:

So in your eyes it is okay for nothing to happen when you bad mouth the one in charge of the league w/o repercussions?A fine will do nothing to him obviously and only a suspension w/o pay "might" knock some sense into him, though unlikely.

This is just stupid. A sweatshop owner is committed to making money, you admire that?Hitler was really committed to world domination and the extinction of all Jewish people, you admire that? The point here is that being dumb and dirty isn't excused because you are committed to a goal or your craft. There are alot of people who are committed to something but are still scum.

Jason La Confora also said 'it's a free speech issue' in his NFL.com piece. Apparently he's supposed to be a journalist. Maybe he thinks Harrison is facing jail time for this?

In 10 years, Harrison will be out of the league and bankrupt. And nobody will give a rat fart about his opinions on anything.

I think he may be developmentally disabled. He's like a child.. he says whatever is on his mind with no filter and no thought to the consequences.

??? Are you implying Jason as well as you believe our "freedom of speech" right is not directly related to political speech. Because if you do, I am sorry but the Supreme Court has disagreed with this thought throughout out our history. Now the effort has been made to make most issues political to some degree and by extension that could be attempted to be used, but that is a very thin branch you are climbing way out on for support.

If you read La Canfora's piece he comes across as pretty ignorant on the whole 'freedom of speech' thing. I always thought it was in regard to whether or not citizens had a right to speech without facing persecution from government. Apparently La Canfora thinks this also applies to how private businesses are represented by their contractors.

I think the league office should only suspend players for violating league policy. If criticizing the commissioner is one of those policies then go ahead and suspend him, otherwise the league office should stay out of it. This is especially true at a time when they have locked out players and presumably have more important things on their plate than stupid things a player says.

Stupid is comparing James Harrison with Adolf Hitler. My point was that Harrison's focus in life is football. He takes it very seriously. I admire that.

"If the Steelers had defeated the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl, Harrison said, he would have..."

Yeah, but they didn't. Easy to say what he "would have" done now.

I just thought of Harrison as a high-spirited player. Now I see he's a real d-bag. Calling out teammates is unacceptable. Mendenhall had a really strong season. He had a disappointing fumble in the Super Bowl (and never touched the ball again), but that doesn't negate everything he did. And there's almost no chance Pittsburgh would have been in the Super Bowl-- or those others-- without Ben. True, he's not Peyton Manning. He has more rings.

That doesn't even cover the commissioner. It would be enough to say you don't respect him and leave it at that. But gay slurs and crude comments? Pretend you're a professional. Harrison sounds like a miserable human being, which would be a shame considering how fortunate he is to earn that kind of living.

Maybe I'm taking too much from one interview, but he sounds a lot like Leon from the Budweiser commercials. Nothing was his fault, either.

According to the time-honored rules of Internet debate...you have just lost this argument. Use the "H" word, and you lose.

This actually isn't even first on my "how stupid are they" list. It's only topped by those that use the "we can't change the constitution" argument. :loco:
