James Jones (1 Viewer)

With Colston out, I've picked up James Jones and am starting him this week. I'm encourged by his 4 catches for 39 yards and a TD in his first start of the season. The Packers have a prolific passing attack and Jennings and Driver will alleviate attention away from Jones.

I had Meachem and started him last week. Although he had a TD, he had just two targets and his only reception was the 19-yard TD. Without that catch I get 0 points out of a starting WR spot. I can't accept that risk - especially with the Saints passing game up in the air. Henderson, Copper, Patten, or Shockey could easily emerge as the fantasy stud and leave Meachem with nothing. The risk is of course the Saints are supposedly going to increase his reps, but the roster can only hold so many people so I went with Jones.

I picked Jones over Ike Hilliard off the waiver wire because the Green Bay offense is a lot better.

What do you guys think?

I like him. He has huge hands and is Boldin-like in his strength and RAC ability. If Driver or Jennings gets hurt he will be a starter, but will also play a lot even if they don't. This week he will be defended by the Dallas #3 corner. I like that matchup.

In Dynasty, James Jones is a definite buy. In redraft, I don't think he has enough opportunity this year.

I like JJ. I actually have packed away on my bench for insurance. I have Jennings starting a head of him. He may be used for trade bait or WW pick up if the opportunity arises.

depends on league size

10 Teams - no

12 Teams - WR 4/5

16 Teams - Yes

Dynasty - Yes, hold for when Driver retires, should be a consistent 70 plus reception, 6-8 TD guy

I like James Jones a lot.....he is a great guy to have on your bench right now....could serve as a bye week sub....and if Driver or Jennings get hurt....he will be a stud.....and he is a great prospect in a dynasty league

took a flyer on him last year. Jennings emerged. Now have him stashed on the bench. Especially if Rogers keeps maturing he has plug in value, and with an injury or retirement could easily be a wr2/eventual 1

I'm in the same situation between starting Jones or Meachem. Both have a lot of upside but are high risk starts and both should be involved in shootouts this week. Meachem is the size of Colston but faster, however he's still raw. If he can develop some rapport with Brees he could emerge as the top WR threat while Colston is out. Jones may be more of a boom or bust playing in the slot behind driver and jennings. Meachem has more of a make up to be a starting WR, deep threat and red zone guy. It's a tough choice, but I would keep both of them and probably go with Jones this week because he's more proven. That is what I'm leaning towards but both of them could have big weeks.

Pac-Man? I think there would be better matchups to be found when it comes to #3 CBs in the league.

Tell that to fractionjackson. This game will require both teams to score points, and w/ Grant being a little gimpy I'd roll Jones if you're in a pinch.

The eagles had no problem passing on that secondary. With the 'Boys a little banged up, I see Rodgers being able to do more of the same.

I'm waiting for people to realize Pacman Adam Jones is not all that special of a corner. He is an average nickel back with amazing return skills.

Then I like Jordy Nelson against the #4 corner. Who'd that? Jenkins?

:bag: but since it pertains to Jones this week I'll play along. Jones is a little like D.Hall in that he's a very fast, gambling CB. When these guys anticipate and guess right, it's pick6. They also guess wrong a lot and give up good WR stats. They can kill a FFB QB, while being friendly to FFB WRs at the same time. They are not usually shut-down guys.

Good News Tom... you can stop waiting! I just realized it.

In 2006, he was a shut-down guy. He put up some EYEPOPPING numbers- if it hadn't been for Bailey having perhaps the finest season a CB has had, it would have gotten more press. He and Bailey were inarguably the two best corners in the league back then. Now, corner play (outside of Bailey, Barber, and on a shorter timeline a couple of other guys) tends to be wildly inconsistent from year to year, so it may have just been a mirage... but it may also be that Jones doesn't have his football legs back under him yet. Either way, I would write him off at your own risk. The guy has elite coverage skills.

Shocker Special: Matt Romig would scale Wisconsin's tallest cheddar mountain for James Jones' love

By Big Noise

Each week the Noise will guide desperate, deep-thinking owners into the dark corners of the waiver wire to mine a last-minute diamond. Turn on your helmet light and pack a pickaxe. We're digging for drop-jaw surprises owned in less than 10 percent or started in less than five percent of Yahoo! leagues.

The former San Jose State Spartan (my colleague's alma mater) is prepared to make a "300" stand against the Roy Williams-less Cowboys.

Sure, many pundits, including the Noise's "Fantasy Football Live" cohorts Brandon Funston and Chris Liss, would argue Williams' absence is a positive for the 'Boys but Aaron Rodgers will undoubtedly take to the air in an attempt to capitalize on Dallas' loss, especially in single coverage. As the scruffy-faced QB told the Green Bay Gazette earlier this week:

"When you're facing a 3-4, it's all about communication. They want to single your guys up in one-on-one matchups, and we're trusting those guys to win. I've got a lot of confidence in those guys."

Even Vince Vaughn's character, Trent, from "Swingers" would agree. Jones is a big winner.

Whether Dallas DBs try to contain Packers receivers in man or zone coverage, the Cheeseheads will be unstoppable. Well, at least Donald Driver thinks so. Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

"I think every player in the NFL feels like they have to stop one of us. If they get to the point where they stop me and Greg (Jennings), I promise you James Jones and Ruvell Martin and Jordy Nelson will take care of business. I promise you that one. No one can stop us, we can only stop ourselves. And we know that."

Because Ryan Grant's plaguing hamstring soreness has endured, the Packers ground game will likely again struggle. Dallas' quick, athletic frontline will clog gaps meant for Grant and backup Brandon Jackson to shuttle through. Ultimately, this will force the insanely accurate A-Rod (70.0 completion percentage) airborne to spread the defense and move the chains. Advantage Jones.

Last week against the loathsome Lions, Jones was targeted eight times, the same number of looks as Driver, catching four passes for 29 yards and a score. His plus size, tight route-running skills and fearlessness in traffic will be keys to his fantasy success in a game expected to overflow with tasty statistical outputs.

Mike McCarthy touted Jones a "breakout candidate" in July. This week, the 15-percent owned (three-percent started) receiver launches into the No. 3 limelight. Consider him a strong WR3 in 12-team leagues.

Week 3 Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 63 receiving yards, 1 touchdown

Aaron Rodgers threw the first pass of the night to Jones a little low and Jones dropped it. I never saw him again after that.
So much for James Jones. At least I wasn't alone in the idea.
He hurt his knee on that first play of the game. It seemed minor and he went back in but they decided to shut it down. Tonight had nothing to do with Nelson moving ahead of him. If anything the Packers were limited without him. He's still very limited in redraft formats, but tonight may provide the perfect setup to go after him in dynasties.
