JAMES STARKS ACTIVATED OFF PUP LIST! (1 Viewer)

Read with opening music from "2001-A Space Oddysey" playing in backround

Packers RB James Starks (hamstring) will be activated off the PUP list in time for Wednesday's practice.

It's difficult to predict Starks' role because the Packers likely don't even know what they they'll do with him. The sixth-round pick missed his entire 2009 college season due to a shoulder injury and then missed the entire offseason program plus training camp with the Packers. They'll see him in pads for the first time this week. Still, Starks is talented enough to be worth a stash if you can fit him on your roster. Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn have been uninspiring at best since Ryan Grant went down.

Don't worry about the pads part- was playing Madden 2010 while on PUP list

Interesting...who are they cutting for him and Harris to come back?

They put Finley on the IR to make room for newly acquired Anthony Smith.

Not seeing anything that they will "activate" him.

I think they have 3 weeks now to put any of the 3 PUP players on the active 53 man roster.

Starks, Bigby and Harris all will practice...McCarthy's comments definitely tempering any immediate impact of Starks.
As for Starks, McCarthy admitted it's unrealistic to think he'll be able to contribute anything right away. He missed his senior season at the University of Buffalo with a shoulder injury and missed almost all of the off-season and training camp with a hamstring pull.

"I think it’s obvious that’s a huge question mark," McCarthy said. "Atari and Al Harris have battled, have played in games here, know our system of football. You’re talking about two veterans. Starks is really, we just want to get him out and see him in pads and get him in that environment. We’re really evaluating him totally differently."

Starting him at flex over Ahmad Bradshaw. :bye:

It's obvious this is just coachspeak. He can't come out and say, "Sparks is going to be the best runningback this league has ever seen. Aaron Rodgers may not throw another pass this year," even though he probably thinks that.

James Starks = Finley 2.0?

Anyhow, this makes me much more comfortable with my decision to cut Brandon Jackson in both of my leagues. Guess I can cut Kuhn too now.

Watching the Packers fail again and again 2 punch it in from the 2 was ridiculous. Will be interesting to see if this is able to make Grant obsolete even over the rest of the year.

Grant is obsolete this year, he's on IR

"...and in the days after the Mighty Finley's fall, the Last Packer poured out from what was in his cup into the air, and a loud voice from the GM's Chair said "IT IS FINISHED!" and the ground moved very much and there was much lamentations and smoking ash. When the smoke from the ashes cleared, there emerged a figure who would save all the Packer faithful, becoming a balm to their souls, and his name was.....James Starks."

will definitely be given an opportunity to take the reins, but coaching staff and front office are far from dead set on this guy being the future. if he performs well, expect him to be the answer in green bay for this year and probably next.

With 10 games left to play, I think anything less than 900 total yards and 6 TD's would be a disappointment.

let's not forget that the Dolphins D stopped ADP repeatedly on the one yard line.
Wasn't really a comment on the Dolphins D or meant as a slight to them as much as this wasn't the first week where the Packers failed in that scenario this year. Goal-line and short-yardage situations haven't been a strength of their this year.-QG

Poor phrasing my be. The upshot is that if Starks peforms well the rest of this season he might make Grant obsolete.-QG

maybe off topic, but who was the player on this board that people used to always say, "It's just a ploy to motivate....so and so."

I can't remember the name.

as bad as the rbs in front of him have been, all he needs is a shot. Sounds like he'll at least get some reps.
I can't look up the stats right now, but Jackson is averaging over 4.5 yds/carry for the year.Is that really that bad?The problem here is McCarthy won't commit to the run game, so no matter who is back there, they aren't going to put up big numbers.

Brandon Jackson? I don't think that is the situation here. James Starks is very well rested. He hasn't played football since 2008 really. Brandon Jackson has been the 3rd down back for a few years now so I think he needs a breather.
