Jason Taylor to a Contender? (1 Viewer)

Despite the many blasts about how Junior Seau baled on the Chargers to get a superbowl ring with the Pats, i totally support a player who has busted his butt on a losing team for a number of years and wants to end his career with a ring. i don't see anything wrong with it. JT is still a great competitor and would be a great addition to any team. If he does make a move, i hope he doesn't incite the hatred that Junior Seau did.

I hate him already. Openly lobbying for an award is about as classless as it gets.

Interview I saw with him was everything you'd expect. He's concerned about leaving his Phins and also curious about playing for a ring somewhere else. He was emotional discussing both sides.

Terrific player and person, he could command a ton of money.

I don't think it's anything like Seau since Seau retired for a brief period and I thought of the Chargers as "his team" not the Phins.

:goodposting:
What part are you having difficulty with? Him badmouthing other competitors for the award, that it was tacky move, or that someone might find it worthy of contempt?

First off, this usually doesn't work. When a player wants a ring at the end of his career they pick a team to play for but don't make that team better. The real winners are the guys like Reggie White who go to a perennial loser and help turn that team into a SB winner. This is what makes a player great and a winner, not going along for a ride on a great team.

Actually, he left the Dolphins to go to the Pats.

I'm gonna go with the second choice. I can see why people might get a little upset over it but its not worthy of hate

What's his worth? He's not worth a first or second rounder at this stage of his career, is he?

Miami needs picks. Vikings need a pass rushing DE. Vikings have two third rounders. Trade both of them for Taylor?

2nd that he left the chargers to go to the dolphins.......but I think the chargers didn't have him in their plans

As a lifelong Dolphin fan, JT has been one of the few brights spots to watch every Sunday.

I'd hate to see him go but if a team out there wants to give up draft picks for him then the Dolphins should pull the trigger. Parcells is going to completely rebuild this team - he needs draft picks to do that. I'd don't see them fielding a competitive team for 2-3 years at least.

Also curious - what would JT be worth in terns of draft picks?

What the hell are you talking about? Seau didn't bale on the Chargers. He was traded by the Chargers to the Phins. Then the Phins cut him so he retired. He then signed a one day contract with the Chargers so that he could retire as a Charger. He was never going to play another game with the Chargers. It was ceremonial. Then the Pats came a-calling and he decided to unretire, which wasn't a big deal, because I don't think the league ever got or processed his retirement papers. So he never really officially retired. I don't know where you got your info from, but he is still loved and is very popular in Chargerland.

Awesome that a Jason Taylor thread devolved so quickly into a pissing contest about Junior Seau. Thanks guys!
Well, the OP did sort of invite it.
Yeah, what he said. The fact is, if JT's situation is going to be compared to that of another player, the facts should at least be accurate. Especially if a guy's name is being dragged through the mud.In regards to JT, he should get his due. Personally, I don't think any player who wants to go somewhere to win a championship should ever be villified. These guys are athletes and winning is part of that drive. On the other hand, picking money over a championship is another story.

The smart move by the Dolphins would be to trade him while he still has value. Take the cap hit this year, while the team is still horrible. What is he worth in draft picks? I would say a team like the Colts might offer their 1st rounder, Taylor would be a nice piece there. More than likely I think he is worth a 2 and a 4.

The Giants trade J.Shockey for J.Taylor. He replaces the retired M.Strahan.

Then Shockey goes home to Miami. Parcells will have to deal with him all season. Perfect. :wall:

Now way Indy trades a first or a second for Taylor. They have two great pass rushing ends already. Sure, Taylor might be better than Mathis, but not enough for them to give up a second round or higher pick.

With Zach Thomas out, I'd say a trade is MUCH more likely at this point...

Realistically, I think his trade value is about a mid-2nd round pick at this point -- as a life-time Phin fan, I'd obviously like to see us get more, but, honestly, a 2nd rounder should easily get it done...

I'd take the Vikings' two 3rds that Andy offered...

Be interesting to see which team signs Zach -- maybe they'd try to trade for JT too

I agree. As soon as I heard that Zach was cut, my first thought was, "Taylor's leaving!" Maybe he'll follow his brother-in-law wherever he ends up. Hopefully it won't be to a hated rival (ie, the Pats). I still can't for the life of me understanding why you would want to play for a team that you spent a better part of a decade loathing, hating, cursing, and competing against. I can't believe at this stage of their careers it's about the money. Championship? There are no guarantees that the "sure thing" you sign with will end up winning it all in the end. 18-1* sound familiar? Of course, languishing for another couple years in 1-15 South Florida :bag: now that's another story.

Man I hate Dan Marino, but he never wore another uniform.

I can't stand it when players jump ship for that elusive ring after playing most of their career with the same team.

I would hold somebody who has played for several teams in their career to a different (lower) standard.

This guy is starting his 12th season so I can't see anyone giving up a 2nd or 3rd round draft choice for him.

The Eagles should be on the phone with Miami. But no way they are giving a first day pick for him.

We saw what happened when they lost Freeney. They need another guy like Taylor on the team for depth & more pass rush in situations.

Just curious... have you only had one employer for your entire life?

While I am a dolphin fan, and a bit biased, why not?He is 2 years removed from DPOY (even if you think merriman deserved it more, taylor was all world that year), and last year on a miserable team he still had double digit sacks, 3 fumbles recoverd and an int (while being double and triple teamed most of the time).

How many first day picks will give you 2-3 more years of that? He has not lost a step and has still stayed injury free.

The only reason I would take less than a first round pick for JT is if I was sending him to a contender (more as a thank you to him for being such a stand up player for the phins for such a long time).

How many other Defensive ends would you take before JT for 1 - 2 seasons of play at that level?

I haven't watched any dolphin games, but Taylor has been top5 DE in fantasy for the last 5 years. The guy just does it all: FF, FR, INT, Sacks, INT TDs. He's a monster and I don't think he'll be wearing down for at least another year or two.

Don't watch many 'phins games but on sportscenter and stuff the guy still looks in great shape... he's still fast as lightning and he can't be slowing down that much because they have him standing up on some passing plays... the guy is a hell of an athlete and i don't really see him slowing down that much for the next 3-4 years. If he were to sign a 5-6 year deal elsewhere, i don't think id look twice at it as a bad move.
