Javon Walker Injury Update (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Javon Walker sat out practice Wednesday due to some inflammation in his knee, but is expected to play Sunday against the Colts.

"We thought we’d give him a day’s rest," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. "It’s been sore the last couple of weeks." The knee that's troubling Walker is the same one he tore up in 2005, so this is of some concern. It also could explain Walker's inability to get open last week against Jacksonville. Walker had an MRI on the knee, but the results were negative.

Keeping an eye on this, as I've put in a bid for Brandon Marshall (yes, super-shallow redraft rosters). Thanks for posting this.

Ouch.. I was worried it might be something going on... Being bad enough to get an MRI done is not good...Maybe its time to sit walker for Marshall this week...

Thursday update from KFFL. This isn't looking good:

Bill Williamson, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Javon Walker (knee) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 27. Walker had an ice pack covering his knee.

That's not good. I might have to sit him this week.

Broncos Injury Report

Bill Williamson, Denver Post - [Full Article]

Broncos QB Jay Cutler shook off a sore ankle and practiced fully on Wednesday in preparation for the team's game at Indianapolis. WR Javon Walker has been battling some swelling on his surgically repaired right knee and took a day off. An MRI showed no additional damage and he will play this week. S John Lynch will test his sore groin on Friday to see if it can hold up this Sunday and rookie DE Tim Crowder will suit up for his first game after recovering from an ankle injury.

Do we believe him?:

Javon Walker-WR-Broncos Sep. 27 - 6:22 pm et Javon Walker (knee inflammation) sat out Broncos practice for the second straight day Thursday."It’s nothing to be concerned about," he said. "It’s not the ACL. It’s nothing that got repaired." Walker's status for Week 4 will be determined Friday, when he's expected to give it a go in practice. Either Brandon Stokley or Domenik Hixon would start if Walker sits against the Colts.Source: denverbroncos.com

Friday morning updates from RotoWorld:

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Javon Walker's status would be a game-time decision this week.

Shanny may be engaging in a bit of gamesmanship, but Walker owners should watch his practice report Friday closely. It will be tough for Walker to get deep against the Indy zone defense if he isn't 100%, so owners can at least consider other options. John Lynch will also be a game-time decision.

Javon Walker (knee) says he will "definitely" play against the Colts.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan indicated that Walker's status will be decided in the hours leading up to game time. Walker says the injury might cost him practice time during the season, but won't keep him out of games.

Friday practice update from RotoWorld:

Javon Walker (knee) was limited in his return to practice Friday.

He is considered questionable and will come down to a game-time decision against the Colts' strong secondary. If you have a formidable option to replace Walker, go for it. Indianapolis' zone scheme combined with a troublesome knee are likely to limit Walker's ability to get open deep.

More on this from RotoWire:

Walker (inflamed knee) practiced Friday for the first time this week, the Denver Post reports. He is marked down as questionable on the injury report, but Walker said he would list himself as "definitely playing." "It was just irritation from playing, starting in training camp and just started getting a little more irritated as we went along," Walker said. "This is not a repaired knee or anything like that. This was just a situation where you want to give it a rest, get the fluid out of there. It's no problem." He should be fine this week, but we'll chcek back on his status prior to Sunday's kickoff.

This is from John Clayton's injury report on Friday night:

Wide receiver Javon Walker practiced Friday and should be able to play. He had fluid on a knee and missed some practice time. The team lists him as questionable, but expects him to play.

I am keeping a close eye too.... but my main dilema is whether or not to start him along T Holt. My other option is Larry Fitz. I know this is not the AC board, but who else is in this dilema and what would you do given this particular option? and given the option to start someone like Larry Fitz (whomever you may have - and would love to hear it), do you do the easiest thing and simply bench Walker for the week?

If Walker plays I'm starting him unless I have a certified Top 20 WR sitting on the bench behind him. Fitz certainly qualifies although he's off to a slow start and has a real tough matchup this week. But that's the only type of player I'd sit him for. Of course, the added factor here is the late start. Many teams may not be able to wait until the late start to make a decision so they may have to go with an inferior player before the early games in order to make sure they have someone in that spot. But if you can wait up until game time I'd only sit Walker if I had a Top 20 option to go with in his place. I think he's too good and too important to the Broncos (especially this week) for him to start and not be a factor again. We saw what happened to Denver last week when Walker wasn't involved.

Ok, all the signs point to walker playing. My gut is telling me to play Walker for the following reasons:

1) Walker has not seen end zone yet so I have to think he's due. I know this is not scientific by any means but taking out last week's dud game he went over 100 in both games 1 & 2 and he should score at least 8 TD this year so week 4 seems like a logical spot for him to notch #1

2) I am hoping the Colts offense will roll at home and put up some nice points so Denver will be forced to through and Walker should get a decent amount of targets (unless Marshall hogs them all again)

The fact that this is a late game is not a luxury for me. My only good replacement option plays at 1 (Curry). Arrrrghhhh.

I think I'm leaning 60/40 in favor of Walker. What are other folks doing/thinking?

I'm starting him as of now. I have other options so if he doesn't play I can wait until game time and replace him if he ends up sitting. If he plays I think he has a very good chance to do well. The Broncos need to get him back involved the way he was in the first two games if they want to beat the Colts and I think this is a game where Cutler is going to have to throw a lot. Schaub showed last week that you can pass on the Colts and if Walker's healthy the Broncos bring much more to the table in the passing game than the Texans did. For what it's worth, I think Curry is a great backup plan for Walker - especially in a PPR league. I'd have zero reservations about plugging him in if Walker can't go.

When it comes to starting players, I no longer believe Shanny
Remember the Tatum Bell fiasco of a couple weeks last season when he practiced all week, was listed as probable and sat out? The rules have changed so a probable listing means a player must play or a team faces league sanctions, likely in response to things like that which Shanahan has pulled.

Shanny can get around that by listing everyone Questionable.........BTW isn't Walker: Q still?.

certified Top 20 WR
How do you get one of your WRs certified? Do you have to go to a notary? Sounds like this could be a good opportunity for some :) .
Im a notary..hehe...just kidding, but i would def start JW if he is playing. btw, TheJerk, The Jerk is on tv right this very moment.

Breaking news email says he is closer to doubtful. I have him in right now because my only other option is G Jennings and he has his own problems.

Benching him for Galloway at this point. Don't feel it enough that he'll be a huge contributor right now.

Well, it's not really a palatable option, but at least I can wait & see on Sun afternoon whether Walker is ruled-out---Nate Burleson is on my bench, but he's @ SF who has been good vs. the pass this year. Since I trust the Rat so little, I might start Burleson regardless....

Looks like I might be benching him for Anthony Gonzalez in one league, Bobby Engram in another league (0.5 ppr for wrs, and have Norwood and James Jones as other considerations. Already benching Boldin in that league), and Bobby Engram in a 3rd league (PPR, I have James Jones, Kenny Watson, and Stokely as other considerations).

Even after he practiced Friday? Did it say specifically why he seems closer to doubtful, after he said he'd play?

All we can say is that multiple sources very close to the Broncos are telling us that Walker could be inactive this week. Another source said he will be WR #3 at best. I know this contradicts other reports out there. We will keep following this story all the way to gametime.

Thanks David. If he isn't healthy enough to be the No. 1 WR he should be sat. It's stupid to play him and use him as a decoy and possibly risk further injury. If he's only the No. 3 WR tomorrow he's pretty much unstartable and it's a major downgrade for Cutler too in my opinion.

From Walker....

WR Walker States He's Definitely Playing

Mike Klis, Denver Post - [Full Article]

Denver Broncos starting WR Javon Walker said on Friday that he is definitely playing this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts. "It was just irritation from playing, starting in training camp and just started getting a little more irritated as we went along," Walker said. "This is not a repaired knee or anything like that. This was just a situation where you want to give it a rest, get the fluid out of there. It's no problem."
If Walker says he is definitely playing wouldn't you think its a for sure thing?

Not always. Rudi Johnson said earlier this week he was going to play. A couple of years ago, Deuce McAllister said he felt fine and would play in the next game and less than 24 hours later it was revealed he had a torn ACL. Players often think they're going to be OK and it turns out they're anything but.

The value of this thread and FBG's e-mail is knowing that the likelihood is higher that he COULD sit tomorrow. At least you all know that this early.

But in another player in your lineup (don't tell me who it is because I could give a crap), and then follow the news for confirmation if he is in or out.
