Javon Walker Wants To Retire (1 Viewer)

Curry puts up big numbers this year, that's all I know.
I'm not sure that I agree with that. Curry will now face the double teams. I agree with other posters that Zach Miller benefits the most.
why would any team double Ronald Curry?
Because the Raiders have NO ONE ELSE that scares anyone. Curry doesn't keep defensive coordinators up at night, but he's the only competent wide receiverthat the Raiders have.

Your team has to be pretty bad for a player to pay $11 million to not play for you.
Try this again:
Raiders WR Javon Walker told the Raiders Thursday he intended to retire and offered to return his $11 million signing bonus.Walker has struggled with his performance in camp so far, but nobody expected something this drastic. Walker's knee doesn't appear to be getting better, and he obviously has some mental hurdles to clear after a trying offseason.
But don't let that stop you from taking a shot at the Raiders. :)

As far as Walker the person, I've heard from people close to the Packers that he's a good guy but he isn't very bright. His low Wunderlic score would attest to that.
As would his alma mater.Signed,Gator fan
UF is a state public school, just like FSU. Both degrees are equally significant. I chose FSU over UF despite having a GPA & test scores that were superior to the majority of UF students. Good try though.
1. It was a joke, born of a football rivalry. The same way the Charger fan said "wouldn't this be great" in regards to the quote about this being a black eye on the Raider organization. Ease up a bit there Mr. Tightpants.2. Since when are all state public school degrees considered equal in an employer's eyes? This is not in regards to UF vs. FSU specifically, but if you believe that then you're just believing what you want to believe, rather than what even you likely know to be the truth.

Two great seasons is all he's had - one with Green Bay and one with Denver. That's hardly the type of stuff that was expected of him when the Packers made him a first-round pick.
Would you prefer zero great seasons out of six? Because that's what most 1st round WRs give you.

To me this indicates a lack of desire to play anymore, and that's fine. Javon's had a rough year and half or so. I just hope that he gets the help he needs so that he can straighten out his life. Can't believe that Al Davis didn't seize the opportunity to get out of this ridiculous deal, if he had it probably would have been better for both Walker & the Raiders.

Al Davis is on his deathbed (my sources tell me that his box has been specially outfitted to accommodate him as he's in poor health). He doesn't have many more years to contend for a ring. If Walker doesn't play, the Raiders got no shot, although I don't give them much of a shot anyway.

It's being reported that Walker isn't retiring and is willing to play, so maybe we can change the title to "wanted" or "considered" instead of "wants"

August 2, 2008, 23:36 Raiders :: WRWR Walker Considered RetirementChris Mortensen, ESPN.com - [Full Article]Oakland Raiders WR Javon Walker informed the team this week that he planned to retire and also offered to return his 11 million dollar signing bonus. Raiders owner Al Davis reportedly persuaded Walker to stay with the team.

So let's play this out a little, hypothetically--who's helped the most by this if it comes to pass? Curry?
Zach Miller
From ProFootballWeekly.com whispers:
After watching the first week of practice, close observers of the Raiders wondered if the team’s offensive game plan for its tight ends would be affected by the poor play of the offensive tackles. Sources said second-year TE Zach Miller has Pro Bowl potential, but his chances for a big year are likely limited since he’ll often have to be kept in on passing downs to help a weak crop of offensive tackles block the pass rushers.

I fully expect Carter to be one starter and he's looking like the best fantasy option (if there is one) right now. The other will likely end up being Walker or Curry but at this point, I wont rule out Higgins who has enough skill and is looking at an unexpected opportunity. Walker is obviously frustrated. Maybe Oakland should have took him up on his offer but it wouldnt be good business practice to take advantage of Walker if this was a burst of emotion thing. Had Walker sat down and thought about it for a while and really wanted to then Oakland should just let him go.

 It means more blitzes, and more pressure on a young QB.

Sounds like I was right. He's struggled and had "mental hurdles." He doesn't want to play for the team, and is willing to pay $11 million not to play for them. If he was struggling but wanted to play for the Raiders...they could always cut him. If he had mental hurdles but it was worth $11 million (plus base salary) to play for Oakland, he'd stick it out. But it wasn't.Although apparently, he changed his mind and was convinced to stay. So good for the Raiders They convinced Javon Walker not to walk out on them. Big props to the team.

Now he wants to come back?

Maybe he and Favre really have reconciled and they have been going over how to retire?

Walkers head must be all messed up still from the shooting in Denver. Seeing agood friend get killed right in front of you would #### anyone up...

Walker hasn't had it very easy in the last few years... I am willing to give this kid a pass...

I apologize for accuracy, but, he hurt his leg in GB, right before a big pay day.. and the pack pretty much hung him out to dry..he rehabs, gets to DENVER, and has one of his best friends die in his arms on new years...tries again to get away from his demons, and then the Vegas thing happens... pretty sure i wouldn't fair any better....

Favre,,, he's rash... he's nervous... always has been... but he too is human...

UF is unquestionably above FSU academically, and their degree carries far more weight in the business community. Sounds like you made the wrong choice.

I think this signing will be the biggest waste of money

since the Dodgers gave 36 MIL to Andruw Jones

for 2 years of nothingness.
