Javon Walker's contract, any info? (1 Viewer)

I think GB is going to regret not restructuring Walker's contract. He is going to be out to prove that he is that elite reciever he was 2 years ago before his injury. 1300 yds and 9 TD's this up coming season.

Regardless of what they get for that 2nd round pick, I agree I don't see how GB wins in this mess.Take care of your studs.

One season a stud does not make.

Walker thought he was TO. Farve can make a bad receiver passable and a good receiver look great... he's done that for years... Walker has a great year (that followed a great year by Driver)... cries like he's been doing it for years... holds out... then gets hurt in the first game... Play the Game and you will get paid...

Now he has Plummer throwing to him... I think he will regret that... I'm glad they got a 2nd rounder for him... wish they got a little more. And the Packers did good not getting Lelie... another headache... crying to be a #1 when you put up #3 numbers...

FYI Cixelsyd,

Thompson has done a little better than just a 2nd rounder for Walker.

So far;

Daryn Colledge

...and the...

12th pick in the 4th #109

15th pick in the 5th #148 (swapped 5th's with Atlanta and moved DOWN 9 spots in this round)

14th pick in the 6th #183

From ESPN ... "The Broncos and agent Kennard McGuire are finalizing a five-year extension (set to kick in next year) worth about $40 million that includes a $15 million, two-tiered option bonus, $10 million due in 2007 and the other $5 million due in '08. Walker will play out the final year of his rookie contract plus receive a $1 million roster bonus from the Broncos."

So looks like Walker gets an extra $1 million this year with the roster bonus. However, if there is an 'option bonus' due each of the next two years ... will he actually see that? A $10 million option bonus seems like it's destined to be repackage or he can be cut after this year without paying if he's not healed, hurt again or a bust. (I thought TO received only a $5 million bonus.)

Looks like Denver is getting him for a year try-out relatively cheaply before they layout out any amount of sizeable cash.

Who got screwed more, Walker or the Packers?

Neither.Walker wasn't going to play for the Pack this year, so getting 4 players for him from the draft (even if only 50% pan out) was excellent for the Pack.

Walker got the two things he wanted most.

#1) He's playing for a team other than the Pack.

#2) He got his new contract.

Win - Win for both.

If this is how the actual contract is structured then this is a positive for Denver. Walker can say he was given a new contract but all he was able to get this year was an extra $1,000,000. That is kind of funny. Yeah, he could "get paid" if he makes it through the year just fine but the quote is good humor. Complain to Green Bay about his contract and supposedly loves Denver and all they give him, for now, in another million. Hell, Green Bay would have given up more most likely had he kept his mouth shut.

Great signing by Denver here - a very cheap look at Walker for one year with no damage if they don't like what they see. The question I have is what it will take this season for Denver to exercise that $10M option in 2007. At least 80 catches and plenty of end zone appearances in my opinion.

Exactly, and coming off that ACL, those expectations are unlikely to be met IMO.Nice structuring by Denver - but remember, if they cut him next year before the bonus is due, they essentially dealt that 2nd rounder for a season of average production.

We won't know the real winners of this deal until after the season.

Bingo.Great deal not taking a big monetary hit if it does not work out...but they lost the 2nd rounder.

People calling the Packers losers in this? Because they got 4 draft picks for an injurred WR who did not want to play anymore for them and possibly tried to sabotage the team more (if it was him who created the Driver mess a few weeks ago).
