Jene, DB sleepers? (1 Viewer)

Jene -- in the past you've listed some DB sleepers around this time of year. Thoughts this year? Yes, I've read the DB tiers stuff, but wondering who in particular you're targeting that could really emerge during the season.

Thanks!

I'm not jene but some sleepers I am excited about are below and most can be had off the waiver wire!!

Was Phillip Thomas

Hou DJ swearinger

CIN Shawn Williams

BUF danorris searcy

SD Marcus gilchrist

Thanks for that! I think Baccari Rambo is the Redskins rookie that may be worth watching - I think he's running with the first team currently.

Good list... I really like Williams.

Add T.J. McDonald (STL) to this list for me.

Agree with Williams

also:

Jonthan Banks CB TB - should start opposite Revis and see lots of targets

Chris Owens CB Cle - has a chance to start accross from Haden and see lots of targets

Desmond Trufant CB Atl- same as owens but substitute Samuel for haden

Shamarko Thomas S Pit - next in line to start if Polamalu or Clark go down

I'd echo the Shamarko Thomas sentiment from Joe Steeler. With Allen/Van Dyke hurting, they are already giving him reps in nickel packages. In dynasty, he's a very good stash.

Sounds like Baccari Rambo is running as the 1st team FS in Wash. Maybe some value in that scheme.

Patrick Chung in Philly seems a little under the radar too. Switching to a 34 without the horses up front to run it may result in good T opps for him.

The winner of the Williams/Searcy camp competition will be in line for nice numbers there as well. I haven't heard if there is a clear frontrunner.

Looove me some Swearinger. Figured it'd take a year, but with Reed being limited he could wind up being startable from jump.

That said, dunno how much of a sleeper he is anymore. Pretty highly publicized by now that Reed may not be ready for their opener.

this has some real potential, imo. he'll be on the field a lot and is a decent tackler.

Already next year Ed Reed is cheaper to cut than to keep. Still they gave him a $5m signing bonus this spring which I suppose is a powerful incentive to play him at some point this year.

Darian Stewart

also, not a sleeper but Troy Polamalu was on almost all my waivers this off-season. When hes healthy he gets points and well worth a ww pick up prior to the beginning of the season.

Duke Ihenacho is looking very interesting. Cecil has commented on him as standing out Denvers camp so far. Reports say he has been running with the 1st team recently, and he put up a solid stat line tonight. 7 tackles and 1 forced fumble. A quick look at cbssportslines full play by play shows him putting that stat line by midway through the 2nd quarter. If anyone saw that game I'd like to hear some input. Does he look as good as his stats? Quick blurb from rotoworld says he has been on the practice squad for 2 years.

Yes, he played very well, 6 or 7 tackles in the first half and a forced fumble. He also seemed to play with some aggression and some speed, definitely not afraid to mix it up.

He's not exactly a "sleeper", but still seems like Patrick Peterson should be considered one. Getting some run on offense for Arizona, that could be huge.

New sleepers for me halfway through preseason, I am not to hot on Searcy in BUF and think we might see Williams take the job. Williams is much better in coverage and seems to do just as well against the run so good chance searcy is out. Ihenacho and Mitchell are all over the field making tackles, it's only preseason but both are doing it with the starters so if they stick I don't se why they can't continue to produce in regular season.

Duke Ihenacho den

Micheal Mitchell car

Aaron Williams BUF

Not sure if he is a sleeper but I think Xavier Rhodes could have a big year
FBG's depthcharts have Robinson listed third, presumably the nickle back, but yet NFL Gamebooks for preseason games 2 and 3, when Rhodes was active, still had Robinson starting and Rhodes subbing in later.

Why the disparity in perceived role? Is someone on FBG's predicting what they think will (but hasn't yet) happened? Or is this just oversight?

Those of us in must-start CB leagues need to know. :)

Anyone heard if he has the starting job?
