Jeremy Shockey (1 Viewer)

Trap Play

Footballguy
Hi all.

On the surface Jeremy Shockey has a sweet match up Week 16 against the Detroit Lions. Detroit's defense is dead last against the TE according to Football Outsiders. However, I've been perennially disappointed by Shockey and would hate to get 'suckered in' by him again.

What are your thoughts? Is Shockey a good play this week? Or are there too many options on the Saints to make it a good gamble? Does the potential absence of Bush help Shockey or is it a non-factor?

Thanks.

Shockey has been playing pretty good lately but I'm not expecting a huge game. Maybe 50-60 yards. He has yet to score a TD all season and Billy Miller is getting a lot of looks in the red zone instead of Shockey. One glimmer of hope is that Clark had a huge game v the Lions last week but, again, the yards/points could certainly go to Miller in the game instead of Shockey since both compete for catches. It's a lot like the Scheffler situation in Denver and his splitting catches with Graham. You are always hoping for something big out of the guy only to see the other TE getting the TDs and some looks during the game.

Last week the Saints kept Shockey in to block a lot of the game because their left tackle Jammal Brown was out with an injury.

Not sure if he'll be out this week or not, but that would be something to consider.
