Jerome Bettis story on Fox (1 Viewer)

awesome, awesome story. the man has trouble moving around during the week. anyone else watching thiks?
yea dude... heavy stuff... seeing stuff like that makes you understand why Barry hung em up 'early'.... this should be the Bus' last season for sure

He's on a local radio station every Wednesday morning and they're always talking to JB from the training room where he's getting something worked on.I will be very surprised if he comes back in 2006. Great guy who's been a tremendous ambassador for the game in the 'Burgh and nation-wide.

I agree. I have trouble understanding how, for example, he decided to come back and play just this past year when his body couldn't have been all that different last year from this year.

He's from Detroit and he dated Jenna Jamison. He's ok in my book.

That may explain the orthopedic problems.

Buddy girlfriend works PR for Fedex. She helped coordinate those FedEx commercials you see with the football players running in withthe cliche's. Anyhow she said teh Montana was nice but quiet. She said that Bettis would hangout afterwards and talk to everybody. He was very funny and very nice with everyone.Culpepper hung out with all his "crew" and stayed in his trailer smoking pot all day.this is just what she told me. Can't tell if it's true or not.....

Funny that you say that about C-Pep. My cousin worked at a Radison in Tallahassee, and there was a huge fundraiser thrown by some guy that a bunch of upper tier football players attended. Portis, Champ Bailey, C-Pep, and many more, but it was a few years ago so I can't remember them all. Anyhow, he said C-Pep's room smelled like some fire dank, but it could have been his posse. He said people were calling for him and he said only put people thru that ask for the alias "Jermaine Gangsta".

Not a Steelers fan. But I like the Bus. Seems like a nice guy, and a force on the field. Definite HoFer, despite what the doubters say. Likely first ballot one, too.I would be absolutely SHOCKED if he played next year...

Despite being one of those who has argued against Bettis being a no-brain HoFer, I do think he is a class act and if his body can take it, why wouldn't he come back for another year? He is still a good short yardage back and can still produce on occasion as the featured back if asked to. Plus, his role as a team leader has been an asset to the Steelers over the years.

While it's obviously likely that he'll retire after this year, the way he's finished out strong this year and the fact that he can still help the team has been awesome to watch. He still has something to offer, and if they manage to bring in a different complimentary back to Willie Parker for next year, I think the only role he'd have would be as a short-yardage specialist and mentor to the younger guys. He really took Parker under his wing and taught him how to run between the tackles and set up blocks. At some point, his presense will hold back the organization in finding a long-term replacement, and no, I don't see Willie Parker as it. I won't be completely shocked if he comes back for another year if he still sees the Steelers as Super Bowl contenders, but I don't expect it.

Money? Fame? Sense of identity?I never asked, but if you've ever spent homecoming at a big university, you would probably have the chance to see or talk to a lot of aging NFL players, and you'd see Jerome sure isn't alone. Jerome looks like hell away from the field now from what I saw on that piece, but then every big guy over 35 who I've met looks like he's been beaten with sledgehammers for years. It's not a stretch to say they are nearly crippled. Much older than that, and they look like they're at death's door. In a very real sense, they sell their bodies and their lives for glory in their 20's.

He moves well on the field for such a fatarse. I admire his league longevity and class off the field. Just can't stand that little wiggle/hop move he does after on eof those 4 yards runs.
