Jerome Mathis put on IR (1 Viewer)

Even when he was playing it looked like he didn't have the same top gear that he'd had his rookie year. Definitely another blow for the Texans. The special teams from Mathis at kick returner and Jacoby Jones at punt returner was a big part of this team's strengths in the early games.

Per 610am in Houston this morning. Marc Vandemeer (voice of the Texans) said that Jacoby Jones will be returning kicks once he and Andre Johnson are healthy again. Since Andre Davis has done so well during their absences, he has moved up on the depth chart and Jones will be used as a WR3 at best, and more than likely used in 4 WR sets. Again it was on the radio, so take it for what its worth.

I disagree, I think he still had the top gear and showed it against Indy. However, he seems to me to have developed an annoying habit of dancing and trying to create something. Sometimes you just lower your shoulder and charge ahead.~~~~~~~Also, he's only been in the league 3 seasons and missed most of last year due to a motorcycle accident off the field. He certainly seems injury prone, but it's too early to give up on this former pro-bowler.

No Offense but I pretty much disagree with just about everything you just wrote there.5th gear was no showing, although his 4th gear is faster than alot of guys in the league. He was so fast his rookie year that he beat the guys that had angles on him. It was almost like he was trying not to hurt his hamstrings.(which not seemed to be a hairline fracture now). He also has little to no dance in his return game, although he did seem to reverse his field alot this year though. I really hope the texans dont give up on this guy because I think he and JJones could be KR?PR superstars in this league.

Maybe/probably but his development as a WR is pretty messed up at this point with no continuity in his learning and all

prymetyme pretty much expressed my thoughts on his speed. Yes he's still fast, but he's not as fast as he was before. Guys who would have had no chance at him even with a decent angle, are getting chances now. He was still faster than most guys, but just didn't reach that top speed he previously had. And I agree completely that even his stride seemed a little different than before.
