Sheppard and Strickland out

By Dan Leberfeld

Posted Sep 25, 2009

Florham Park - Jets starting cornerback Lito Sheppard (quad) and nickel/dime back Donald Strickland will both sit out Sunday's game between New York and Tennessee. Dwight Lowery will move into the starting lineup, Drew Coleman will move into the nickel role, and either Ahmad Carroll and Marquice Cole will be the dime back.

Question: Does this make the Tenn passing game viable? Does this make NYJ defense a bad start? Seems significant to lose your shutdown corner and your nickle corner in the same game.

I like Lowery a lot.. He started last year as a rookie and is starter material. Coleman has been around a bit.. But, it's the 3rd and 4th cb's and depth you would worry about.

Not sure it matters a ton this week... Next week Vs the Saints could be a big problem though.

Titans spread it around not that big a deal. The Jets stopping the TE is a bigger deal.

Titans D has been horrendous at stopping WRs on the opposite side of the field from Finnegan. The Titans have 3 pro bowl DBs and CAN stop the pass as well as anyone, but til they shut that down the Jets don't have to do anything but throw it to Nick Harper's side every single play.

I guess from an enjoying the game point of view, it might be nice if the Jets were as bad in coverage on one side of the field as well.
