Jets D/ST (1 Viewer)

Obviously this is highly dependent on your scoring system, but in my league which counts just the basic DST stats (sacks, fumble recoveries, INTs, TDs), the Jets DST ranks 31st out of 32, and they haven't even had their bye week yet. Against Miami, they put up a goose egg. Yet practically every projection site out there consistently ranks them in the top 5 DST every week.

What gives? Seems like Rex Ryan's scheme should be producing a lot of turnovers and sacks. Will this turn around?

how many sacks was he gettin' at balt?

the main issue w/ the Jets D so far has been creating tons of pressure, but not alot of sacks, and teams won't throw at Revis, who's the most likely player to get a pick. In addition, they have one of the most sure-handed but least explosive punt returners in the league in Jim Leonhard

I have them and was excited about them early on, but I've since picked up the Cincy DST and will start them in favorable matchups. I kept NYJ. And I do agree herdfan about the punt returner. Not many TD's coming from him.

Unless your league has BIG points tied to points allowed, I'd say yes, they're overrated for FANTASY purposes. I drafted them in the last round and have used them thus far. If they have another so-so week fantasy wise, I'm dumping them for someone else. I've pondered trying to trade them to someone becuase the media is all "Jets D is so great," on Sundays, and I'm hoping there's some disconnect for some people between real and fantasy.

I have to disagree with most of what is being said. I've watched the Jets play a couple of times. They did a great job against New Orleans, allowed 1 touch and a fg. That Miami game was a big let down, but defenses have games like that in a season. I don't think they're so good that you play them regardless of the opponent, but I like them in favorable matchups.

They do get a lot of pressure; they did against Miami. Henne was able to thread a lot of passes where there was pressure and a well placed defender. I think they'll improve as the season goes on; it is a new system.

Don't let defensive rankings lead you astray, it's usually more about matchup than anything else. Pittsburgh has done worse but are usually rated higher. My league counts points against along with everything else and Jets are middle of the pack right now. Jets have some nice matchups throughout the schedule. I'd play them against Buffalo this weekend, for sure.

Lito Sheppard was injured in the Miami game too...not that that makes or breaks you, but it does change things.

The next few weeks will tell a story... Buffalo and Oakland...

To me, playing the Wildcat is like trying to rate a MLB offense after they played a Knuckleball pitcher so, take that game out of it (Fantasy wise)... And Frankly, Rex can't tell his players this while he is going absolutely ballistic on them, but, I think the problem was being TOO agressive and Miami taking advantage of the Jets - Which IMO means Rex was OUTCOACHED - Bottomline, he's laying a lot on the players and he has some pissed off players right now that will hopefully put their money where their mouths are.

Getting the #2 and #3 CB's back could help in Lito Sheppard and Strickland - I saw a little too much Coleman and Lowery in critical spots the past 2 weeks.

The best pass rusher in Pace is getting back to speed and was a big part of that overaggressive, frustated D from MNF.

I think the turnovers and sacks should come. Part of that is also getting a lead on a team.

This is also going to sound like sour grapes and whatever.. I admit that Edwards PI call was highly questionable, though I'd like to see a replay that shows the 2 guys earlier where they spotted the ball.. But, I watched that game again on NFL Network and it seems to me that the only way to control Jenkins is to hold him.... Guy is a beast, and could draw a flag on a lot of plays - a few critical conversions monday.

good posting.they're ranked 15 in my league..have good matchups coming up, and I like Leon Washington's potential returning kicks.

I've been playing DSTBC all year and somebody just dropped them, so I grabbed them. Looking forward to seeing what they can do against the Bills.

I agree next 2 weeks should tell a clearer story. They are middle of the road in my league, which offers a few pts for Pts Allowed.

I have to disagree with you here Reaper. Previous to this past week Rex Ryan had beaten the Wildcat 2X already. Baltimore mauled the Wildcat in the playoffs last year - now granted the Miami Oline was a mess at that point in the season last year but that's another story. They've been running the Wildcat for 2 years now. Everyone and their mother knew they'd run it again. The Dolphin Oline is improved and they ran it right down their throats on Monday night pushing them all over the field. The Jet players talked trash all week long last week and they are still chirping . . . The Wildcat is a gimmick blah blah blah. Can Calvin Pace shut the hell up already?

First off - Jenkins is an absolute monster. I thought Grove did a good job vs him Monday night and yes he did hold him a few times. You want sour grapes and comments on gimmicks? How many points would the Jets have had Monday night without the 2 fake punts and the 4 very questionable PI calls all on 3rd and long? 2 of them weren't even catchable.

They're a good defense but not a good fantasy d/st. They don't force enough turnovers nor do they create enough sacks.

So, you want to say the Miami O just Dominated the Jets D, the Jetd D is way overrated and they have no chance in the rematch? I think there was some Outcoaching going on myself and in New York the Jets switch it up a little... I think Miami changed things up quite a bit (Which they should - you look at tape and make adjustments from what Rex did last year) and as the MNF crew showed, they ran a lot of misdirection as opposed to "right at them".. They weren't running Jake Grove right over Jenkins, they were running the FB one way and then cutting the whole run back another way....

We can go back and forth and I agree they smashed the Jets D at times - But, I think we'll have some more answers in 2 weeks and I think Rex is going to have to go back to the drawing board - One of the Miami players said that they saw the Jets D as being over agressive and did try to use that against them - Might have been Ronnie Brown......

And I didn't say anything about Gimmicks..... My comment about a knuckleball pitcher is more about trying to rate a defense when it won't really see another team that runs that Wildcat or has that personell all year other than Miami... For FANTASY PURPOSES, I'd say we should take the lack of Sacks and Plays in general with a grain of salt - You're not going to rack up many sacks against such an offense....

Yeah, the Giants D is AWESOME... But, look at that schedule they played... The Jets D will get more chances FANTASY WISE at least.

Also - I doubt Chad Pennington makes that long pass.... Like I said back when, the Best thing to happen to Miami is Pennington getting knocked out... Henne made some plays that surprised a lot of people, especially the Jets.

As for the calls... The one I'm sure you count as uncatchable I think you're seeing thru turquoise glasses - You have to give the player a chance to at least get off his feet.... I'm pretty shocked anyone calls that uncatchable given the defender was sitting on his shoulders.

How about at the end, the ball Henne thru away with no one in sight - Kinda like the call that went against Sanchez with Keller at least in site...

The rematch will be fun!!!!!!!!!

I still don't think it came down to the Jets being "outcoached". IMO it came down to an improved Oline . . . playing as a home dog on Monday night . . . and the Dolphins needing the game more to stay relevant in the AFC East. Henne was as cool as a cucumber everytime the Jets blitzed 36 guys.

Looking forard to November 1st.

Edit to add: And of course the Jets have a great chance in the rematch - the one thing I've learned going to this game (MIA @ NYJ) for over 20+ years is that anything can happen.

put me in the camp that believes that they will be a very good defense when things all shake out. They've played some good teams so far, and while I expected more from the Miami matchup, I think the previous posters remarks about the wildcat are on point.

I didn't draft them in any leagues, but I've seen enough good things to go after them in two. I think it's a shark move to try to pry them away from another owner that might be considering dropping them, or might not value them very high right now.

I believe that they are a good real defense despite last week's (I agree that they were outcoached) let down, but I am not sure yet if they will be good in fantasy. I own them and I am giving them one more week. If Cleveland can hold Buffalo to a FG then I expect a good week from NY DT. If not, they are waiver wire fodder.

I just addressed this issue on my team today. I drafted NYJ Def as my sleeper D, late this year and from the start of the season they were perceived a stout Def....but after waiting until last week, this wasn't carrying over to fantasy production. Jets ranked 28th in my league. That's not worth rostering as your starting D by any means. I noticed that Saints Def was on the wire so I scooped them and will now hold 2 Ds for a bit. Saits were 5th in our league, so I gave up a total of 35 points right there and the Saints already had their bye!

I'm still playing the Jets this week at home vs. Buffalo though over NOS vs. Giants. I think you have to at least hold the Jets and see what they do these next two creampuff games.
