Jets Firing Robert Saleh? (1 Viewer)

In other news, commenter rockaction could not be reached for comment about his comment that they'd never do it midseason after they watched Adam Gase go 2-14 just years prior.

Must have been that flag of Lebanon he wore on his sleeve during the game this weekend.

The DC Ulbrich is now in charge. Nathaniel Hackett retained as OC. God love it. Won't solve anything, folks.

As I've said before- both NY teams hiring former Titans coaches as if they were a great team being dismantled was quietly one of the most shocking dopiest moves (in NFL history) of the off-season.
They lost. They lost a lot!
"The defense was good and I liked Henry" fine Bowen and Dews. Makes sense. Fine.

Why hire their OC that was fired to bring in another bad losing team OC? Each team hired one of both the Titans OCs. The Jets combined him with another OC (Hackett) run out of town from his previous stop. Why?

Gotta fix the OL. Ok ok...let's hire the Titans OL coach whose unit set a record for sacks allowed. What!!

Sooo this spring and summer Saleh points out he's going to be in the meeting rooms on offense. OK so he's giving these guys a second (3rd, 4th, 5th) chance and going to look after them. Ok. Bad plan but OK.

The guy has been fired a few hours and it's already come out that he wasn't in agreement in those meeting rooms. No way! You didn't agree with bad coaching ideas?

I would not be one bit surprised if this was a LeBron power move because Aaron is now the only alpha in the offensive room(s). This did not work for LeBron.

We'll see, we'll see. Maybe Aaron can lead some down on their luck coaches, but I've got my doubts and think coaches coach players play

It's not as if that division is difficult to win, so better to act now if the team isn't performing up to expectations before it slips away.

Mr. 300! Mr. 300, wait!

Is there any truth the the rumor that Woody Johnson has reached out to your agent and inquired on your availability in 2025?

So jets 4th in defense, Rodgers throws 3 picks and they fired Saleh, not Hackett.

Word is they were gonna fire Hackett & ARod got on the phone to the owner to ask them to fire Saleh instead.

What a horrific organization. They may have just surpassed Carolina in dysfunction.

Saleh was pretty beloved in the locker room as I understand it. This might be a catastrophic move.

If true
, that will splinter the locker room. That is a Super Bowl caliper defense, under a defensive-minded HC, with almost ZERO support from the offense.

Saleh wasn’t going to fire Hackett but was going to give play calling duties to Downes and thus “demote” Hackett.

Whether Rodgers stepped in hasn’t been actually established but it’s obviously not far fetched.

The new HC was the old DC and many players were calling out Saleh for not holding players accountable. I don’t think there will be any defensive player mutiny.

I think it had a lot to do with it but can't really unravel what it means
I know what it kind of means to some folks, I'm not sure Saleh was really trying to be as political as it might seem
I also don't want to upset anyone and would understand why some folks would not like his choice of wearing that flag

But the Security walk out seemed excessive when Gase went 2-14 prior and was left in charge all season and I don't recall any of the recent Head Coaches who were fired being escorted off the property by the head of security, there had to be a little something more involved in why they wanted to shame him as he was being fired

By all accounts, players really stick up for this guy although I haven't seen much of it this season
They won 7 games with absolutely no QB last year, that was better than what McDaniel would do if Tua remains on IR this season

You know what? I wasn’t wrong about the chain of events until it got to Rodgers/Hackett. We’re gonna suuuuuck this year. I said Rodgers would sign off on it. He didn’t.

Oh my God. The problem is ownership. It’s top down, and we all have known that. Ugh.

That was debunked.

The social media rumor went like this:
• Saleh started wearing the flag patch.
• Woody Johnson is Jewish

Two problems with this stupidity:
1. Saleh has been wearing the patch for 3 years
2. Woody Johnson is not Jewish.

Social media is the worst thing to ever happen to society.

I think your first point was better and I would drop the 2nd one quickly
You might not realize how offensive that can be, you did enough on the first point

-Kind of with you on social media though, yeah

They’re related points because they’re part of the same rumor that went viral. That was all 1 story.

Also I absolutely realize how it could be because I’m Jewish. I can never drop that point, because it’s part of my life. And that part of the rumor was just internet antisemitism because again, social media is the worst. I’m not religious, but I hate how every BS conspiracy these days seems to come down to “blame the Jews”.

I wasn’t accusing you or rock of anything, just quashing the bolded part of the story because it had already come & gone.

You may now resume the topic about the Jets flailing incompetence. lol

of course it is. it proves that most people are so feeble minded that they believe everything they hear.

now the sharks are circling.

I dont think weve ever had so many scammers trying to get something from us ever. Thats because there are a lot of stupid people out there and now they can steal from us without anyone being able to trace it and its all through the net.

Is it bad that as a fellow member of the tribe (breaking bad shout out) I've gotten to the point where I just glance over that stuff? Seems like it's the lazy version of conspiracy theories, can't even come up with a new group to blame for everything. Little people will blame everyone but themselves for their failures (which ironically goes perfectly with the original topic - a failure of an organization blaming a boring scapegoat).

MoP - from my perspective bringing up and calling out the clearly racist rumors is a good way to squash them. Hate dies in the light.

Nah, I’m the same. I just roll my eyes and assume the worst of the people spreading them.

Did ya hear we control the weather now?

If that were true it would be 72° & breezy all the time! Oy! With this heat!

Remember those idiots with tiki torches? And the tiki torch people came out against them? How much of a loser do you need to be for tiki torches to officially disown you.

We also own Fox now. Total media takeover is complete.

Seriously though, when's the last time you heard of us asking for more than a light spritz for the plants?

I could kvetch for weeks, but back to coach Rodgers and the uncreative offense.

Todd Downing officially play caller now.

:suds:(Admittedly likely premature, however almost anything has to be better than Hackett).

I got rid of my Rodgers share (QBBC Team), but I have some Breece, Wilson and Conklin who could sure use a kick in the pants. Here's to that!
He's the former Titans OC they curiously hired.
30th offense
Henry didn't get enough work vibe as they were 11th in rush attempts not first.
Got a DUI after an away game and missed his ride home which became "I'd drink after a performance like that" "it's not funny to joke about DUIs. He should set an example" and was not big but of some talk on social media.

ETA-
Everybody deserves chances.
I'll give him this- between the Raiders (Vikings?) and Titans no offense has ever looked almost real good so often.

He gets you excited and then what was that? Why is he in there? What are you doing?

The hope has to be that he has learned to get rid of the "cute" stuff or maybe (sincerely) Aaron just audibles out of those plays.

My understanding is that Rodgers is afforded that and ...it could work well.

We wouldn't have banged our head against the wall so hard if it didn't go well previously so it's definitely possible he's improved dramatically.

Unfortunately, still working with the same system. It'll take weeks and weeks to install a new offense and that ain't happening. Best case scenario is that Downing can incorporate some motion, bunch set, and the like to put some lipstick on this turd of an offense.

I've given the Jets until Monday morning to get it fixed.

Ulbrich seems like a badass, and immediately demotes Hackett.

I might be a fool, wouldn't be the first or last time, but I'm starting to think this might actually work.

Clearly the new guy has a visionary plan for the offense.

"I'm not saying it's a better or worse take on things by any means, but just a different take on things, a fresh approach." -Jeff Ulbricht on naming Downing as playcaller.

I'm not sure I'm with you on this - assuming it is still Hackett's "system" (easy to decipher, minimal motion, etc.). Also, I would venture a guess that Rogers changes the play at the line of scrimmage quite often. In other words, a "new dish" produced from the same cookbook using the same ingredients won't necessarily taste better than the last dish. Maybe it will look like the 2023 Jets (different, kinda... but same result on the scoreboard).

The O-line play has been pretty shaky as well.

So, so happy Aaron Rodgers was ok with the decision to move play calling to the guy who isn't his binky. So, so glad. Man...he is the guy you need to check with for these decisions.

No idea if it works.

But he did what every spectator and every player on his defense has been hoping for for the last 22 games, and Saleh didn't do (for whatever reason).

Maybe it's not better, but holy hell, it couldn't continue. I don't know if the next step is the right one, but he at least eliminated the clearly wrong one.

That shouldn't be a monumental feat, but this is the Jets. It's been a very long time since somebody said "we're just going to get rid of the obvious incompetence and go from there".

Or put more simply, what the Jets did offensively last year was not acceptable for an NFL team, no matter the QB situation.
Whatever the reasons that Hackett was retained for this year, I don't know.

Ulbrich ended that. Why others didn't, I don't know.

But Ulbrch is 1-0 in his first 24 hours.
That's a big deal for a Jets Head Coach.

So, it was Saleh that hired OC Nathaniel Hackett?
Traded for a spent-wing QB?
And brought in the washed QBs hand-picked role-players?

Yes, he should have been fired for all that.
Saleh must be so relieved. He's away from that trash organization, and can DC somewhere next year.

This. They hired Hackett to maximize their chances of wooing Rodgers to Florham Park. He's incompetent and terrible and it (in part. Not totally. Saleh was bad) cost Robert Saleh his job. Ulbrich (and probably Douglas) aren't willing to bet their jobs on him turning the ship around. There's enough evidence to support the idea that he simply doesn't know what he's doing. His career was built on the prime performance of Rodgers and now every single person with a football brain knows it.

He's Adam Gase (who was only a candidate for ANYTHING because of the 2013 Manning led Broncos) with a LITTLE more social awareness and an NFL father (who was also a terrible Jets OC. No idea why being the son of someone terrible gets your foot in the door, but it is what it is.....)
