jets players (1 Viewer)

In a few drafts this year, it's as if the Jets don't exist well not quite but....

No Chad no Ramsey yet one's gotta throw and at some point they're better than drafting backups right?

Jolley and Baker aren't even drafted or maybe Jolley goes superlate. Baker was the 32nd ranked TE for the year yet he only played half of it.

McCareins? Blaylock?

There's gotta be some value here LATE in drafts.

What are you guys thinking?

If you've got room on your Dynasty roster for Jerricho Cotchery, he's a guy I'd look at stashing.

NC State guy, latest in pedigree line of Whitted, Holt, and KRob...

Given the Jets, it might take some time to see a return, but Cotchery falls into the category of a talented player who's handicapped by a moribund situation. New coaching staff probably isn't quite married to any incumbent veterans outside of CuMart, and Herm Edwards had some nice things to say about him last year in the blogger when injuries to Chrebet and McCareins afforded him some playing time.

According to Herm: high expectations, can play each WR spot, is tough, explosive, can block, plays the ball well in the air...

If I was in a deep dynasty, I'd be grabbing him to stash. It's my opinion that McCareins is the #2 by default on that team, and with Chrebet retiring Cotch is going to get significant playing time, and opportunity. Tim Dwight is there primarily to serve as a return man on special teams, and Brad Smith is a project...

does there really have to be value for Jets players next year? Last year I dont think any players on the 49ers had any value and I could see the same thing happening to the Jets

I think Baker's got the potential to be a late round steal. He won't cost you a much, he's improved every year, he's the Jets second best target, and the new OC comes from San Diego.

IIRC, Baker went off in the first (or 2nd) game in '05 for almost 100 yds and 2/3 scores - then vanished off the face of the earth. (I'm on dial-up after moving - waiting for my cable modem next week - so I don't have the patience to look it up on nfl.com)I picked him up for my TEBC rotation, only to be dissapointed the rest of the time he took up space on my roster.

I'm sure the qb ?s and new system in the meadowlands are keeping many away (including myself) till VERY late in the draft - though it may turn out to be warranted. I can see the JETS struggling early and often this year

Slight hijack:

What does everyone think of the Cleveland Browns chances of making the playoffs this year? Obviously it will be hard to beat out Pit in that division, but I could see Cincy struggling without Palmer and Baltimore wasn't great last year. I really like Cleveland's D. Will Frye hold them back? Maybe, but you could've said the same about Eli and the Giants last year. I kinda like them as a future contender, but I think we may be one year too early.

As a Jets Homer it kil me to say I have very little hope for a lot of Jets value this year. Until I see a little training camp, QB is a mystery - and I honestly think Pennington is done. Ramsey a shaky answer. Their 3rd pick Kellen Clemans has some value as a possible QB starter in a few years. Blaylock has to stay healthy, but has some skill. But brittle bones, apparently. Houston may not be the answer - it's hard to say after that Oline disintigration last year. 7th pick, RB LEon Washington is another draft pick who might pay off in a dynasty format in a few years.

I like Cotchery too, and if the QB situation stabilizies this July, Coles and McCariens could have ok seasons, but don't take them early.

I'm sure the punter will get lots of work. :(

Should be slim pickings in redraft this year, unfortunately.

Dynasty there's more meat, but hard to say how much this early on....

Hey man, where you landing this plane?

On our actual topic, I think that there is some late value on the Jets, and that Jets players will rise up draft boards as decisions start getting made in NY. As the summer progresses, we'll have more information on Chad Pennington and the QB situation. Once the QB situation is in focus, it becomes easier to project other players.

I'd have the entire Jets offense rated better if I heard Pennington was throwing at full strength and accurately at the minicamp in two weeks. But until I don't know what's up at QB, it's very difficult to get a good sense of value for the whole offense. Also, the RB situation is a mess, b/c somebody will emerge who will have some value, but it's impossible to know who right now.

I agree with the other Jets homers - it's too hard to see what's going on right now to make a fair assessment.

All that said, I think you need to first look at guys that have been brought in by Mangini - his guys as opposed to holdovers.

The first guy that comes to mind is Leon Washington - I'm curious to see what he's got.

I'm a bit botherred he didn't do much last year. I think Chase talked him up last summer and got me noticing him. Now I'm a bit down on him. When would you give up on his potential and use one of your last roster spots on another young WR?Also I thought Dwight went to the Pack, you sure he's a Jet?

yeah he was 7 for 124 and a TD in week 1 and he did do just eh much of the rest of his time. Still thought, to me, that's one of the best games a TE has/can put up. It's not often a TE outside of Gates or Tony G puts up 100 yards. The biggest thing to me was that he was used so much. All summer was Jolley and talk of that trade and all. Jolley should have shined in week 1 but he didn't he only had 2 catches. The coaches must have liked Baker last summer, it means something(even if a little bit) after the trade. Also continuing above, Jolley had a 100 yard game. I know Heimerdinger is gone now but like someone said above they have San Diego's guy now so from one TE heavy coach to another.Well, all this, Baker intrigues me as a late pick and he's not even drafted in some.

Cotchery entered the season in a three-way battle for the third WR spot, with Chrebet and Jonathon Carter. Cotchery did end up being the third WR (Chrebet was injured, Carter was released), and played well at the end of last year. He was only a second year player, so I'd certainly cut him some slack. He had some decent games down the stretch with Brooks Bollinger throwing to him.I'd say he's got more than a fighting chance to overtake McCareins for the WR2 spot this year. He's not likely to do it, but it is certainly plausible.

I think many would be very surprised how late McCaareins is going. I got him recently in the 22nd round of an initial dyansty full of FBGs. I like his potential and upside for that value.

That is pretty late, and a good value there. At 27 years old, if he's going to be good it's going to be now. Nonetheless, my problem with him is that he plays smaller than his frame. Still he's shown good toughness and is able to get deep. Anyone know his contract status offhand?
