The incessant linking of NY with every second-rate backup HB in the league (Suggs; Duckett; Brown; Barlow etc) is becoming quite farcical. And it is making the young team running that program look pretty silly.
First of all, they don't actually need another RB. They already have C-Mart, who hasn't retired yet. Even if he does retire, they have a stable of prospects who could all usefully contribute this season. Houston deserves a shot as the feature back, particularly if he has fully recovered from the thyroid condition. Blaylock has talent. They drafted Washington and he could be more than just a 3rd down back. All these guys deserve a shot.
Second, the only point of them acquring a veteran back would be if they were on the cusp of greatness. But they're not. They're old, slow and beat-up. They are clearly in rebuilding mode. They should be getting their young players as much playing time as possible to prepare them for a playoff push in years to come.
Third, they really should be looking to draft a franchise back next year in any case. If they want to build a great young team they should go for the young stud next year. Why acquire a mediocre veteran back now who'll just get in the way?
Fourth, why bother trading for another back if you really need one? New England showed how to do it a few years back when they signed Antowain Smith as a FA. There are enough OK grinders who could fill in for a year out there. Stephen Davis, anyone?
Finally, this unseemly and somewhat desperate quest for a back makes the new organization look inexperienced and naive. It doesn't augur well for the future.

But aside from that, maybe they aren't seeing what they need from the backs they have. Not being at the practises myself, I can't tell you, but maybe Mangini isn't getting as much as he needs from them.Behind that Oline right now, I dunno how anyone would do much. But I agree they should sit tight -- you're rebuilding - don't waste picks when you already know you have some work to do and might need them.
trip here. First point, it is simply due diligence to look for any potentially available RB and inquire about what a team's asking price might be. Here is another completely baseless take on the situation, all pur conjecture, as your thread starter was:The Jets feel that they may need help at the RB position. They inquire about M Turner, but AJ asks or the moon. So, they go shopping, and intentionally leak this info. This is a very astute move by the young turks running the Jets FO. When it seemed they had no leverage, they create some by leaking trade rumors. Instead of being beggars, they now let the league bid on THEIR needs, seeing which team might blink first, if they have a RB they consider to be expendable. Sound silly? So did your first post. One can spin this stuff to whatever fits one's agenda. Offering a fifth CB who will most likely get cut for Suggs, hardly suggests that the Jets FO is going to hoar themselves for an RB. THEN, given the disparity of the deal, they fail Suggs in their physical, and negate the entire deal. This is not the mark of a naieve FO. Quit the opposite, in fact. Atlanta refused to give up a first rounder for Abraham, right? Majically, this FO GOT a 1st rounder in the eventual deal. Yes, another sign of young guys running an FO that have no clue. There are plenty of good reasons to bash the past moves by the Jets, but not this new regime, no matter how much you might be drooling over the chance to bash them. Yes, they are rebuilding, and they will almost certainly draft an RB next year, fairly high, and might even trade up to do it, with the rather astute pick up of a second 2nd round pick from the Redskins next year. Maybe that is what has annoyed you here, the fact that they STOLE the Skins second round pick next year?
I'm doing my best to be nice here, but I'm having a hard time of it. It's a ######ed thread starter.
