I've never seen that guy say anything on the sidelines. I don't watch the Colts all the time...so, is that normally the case?
If so, how can that be?

Caldwell seemed a bit in awe today.I think he just blinks to let people know he is alive out there. Does this guy make any decisions or calls?
That's how he is every game. I've never seen him move.Well, that's part of my question. Was Caldwell just in awe today, or is this behavior (or lack thereof) the norm?I've never seen him say anything.
No need. He gets plenty of shut-eye during the games. He can't possibly sleep soundly at night.

When I see anyone give any credit to coach Caldwell it will be the first time.Caldwell doesn't get half the credit he deserves.
It is tough to give Caldwell credit since he took over a great team, but, he deserves credit, the Colts could have easily went undefeated this year in the regular season and Caldwell had to have a big hand in the chance of that happening. After hearing him being interviewed after the loss tonight, wow, he is very impressive, a true professional, didn't make any excuses and didnt' run away from being interviewed like alot of losing coaches have in the past. I wanted the Saints to win, no reason in particular, other than they were the underdogs, but, as of now, I will be rooting for Caldwell in any game other when they are playing the Redskins. When I see anyone give any credit to coach Caldwell it will be the first time.Caldwell doesn't get half the credit he deserves.
Which is why he doesn't get half the credit deserves. The credit he deserves is a very small amount, but he gets zero which is less than half of that. When I see anyone give any credit to coach Caldwell it will be the first time.Caldwell doesn't get half the credit he deserves.

That was pretty funny. However, I think Manning might have lost some of his authority after his performance today.Truth.Always looks like Manning is the one coaching Tom Moore on the sideline.FavreCo said:Manning runs that show.
"Looks like" is the perfect phrase to use. Manning is a great quarterback, but he gets credit for everything ... as if the coaching staff and no one else on the team does anything.Truth.Always looks like Manning is the one coaching Tom Moore on the sideline.FavreCo said:Manning runs that show.
There is no doubt that Tom Moore is along for the ride.Truth.Always looks like Manning is the one coaching Tom Moore on the sideline.FavreCo said:Manning runs that show.
I think you're absolutely right.[Peyton Manning]Hey Jim, go make me a ham sandwich.TOM, I SAID CUT THAT MEAT![/Peyton Manning]"Looks like" is the perfect phrase to use. he made a couple bad throws, which actually weren't horrible throws, Porter is just an underrated corner. 69% completions, 333 yards and a TD. I can't discredit Peyton for this game, I credit the Saints D.fantasysharkctb said:Still wondering if Manning will fire him or not. Caldwell does absolutely nothing. That was pretty funny. To be fair... he did mumble "damn" when Wayne dropped the pass to seal the loss. Im guessing that Manning doesnt give him permission to speak.TommyKramer said:I've never seen that guy say anything on the sidelines. Dungy with the assist. He gave the Saints a little bulletin board material."I think they're going to be so far ahead that people are going to say, 'Oh, ho-hum, (Peyton Manning) played a good game, they won by two scores, the Colts won their second championship.' "that said Saints played 10X better than they did against Minny.
I was thinking the same thing. Caldwell and Lovie are the only two coaches who I have never seen talk during a game.In another thread I said Caldwell had the "deer in the headlights" look. I don't think anything can describe it better than that. For a minute I thought it was Lovie Smith on the sidelines.
I really like Dungy. He's a terrific coach and a model citizen. But he really needs to stop making such asinine statements.Dungy with the assist. Oops.

Really? Due to what????A is the only one you blame legitimately on Caldwell. B and C are not in his hands. Now he can this offseason tell Polian he wants to hire a new DC and OC, then it will be in his hands. But I don't see that happening.Caldwell A. Took team momentum away when he lost on purpose to the Jets during the season.B. Called a soft zone to take away the big play all game allowing Brees to chew them up a little at a time -- never saw WR's so wide open in a superbowl. C. with almost 2 min left decides to go 3 runs after stuffing the saints at the goal line. Allowing momentum and points for the Saints before half.
Manning made some dumb plays, that interception was a horrible play by him, he had no pressure on him and yet he misread the defense and let a cornerback jump a route. Manning didn't live up to his billing in this game, he gets too much credit, he is great and all of that, but he cannot do it by himself and he is not super cool under pressure like some think he is.Also, let me repeat: "horrible decision on the interception returned for a TD". Hope that answers all of your ????fantasysharkctb said:Still wondering if Manning will fire him or not. Caldwell does absolutely nothing. That was pretty funny. I just don't see Coach Manning, stripping himself of playcalling.BTW, it was a bad play, even the greats have a misread.Manning made some dumb plays, that interception was a horrible play by him, he had no pressure on him and yet he misread the defense and let a cornerback jump a route. It seems that in order to impress the armchair QB crowd, an NFL coach has to scowl like Jon Gruden and jump around like a clown on the sidelines. No common fan has any idea what Caldwell does in practice, in meetings, gameplanning and preparing his team. The guy goes 14-2 and takes his team to the superbowl in his first season, but because he doesn't act like a WWF buffoon during the game, he won't earn Joe Sixpack's respect. From what I've seen of him, I doubt that keeps Caldwell up at night. Polian/Caldwell are without question among the very top management teams in the NFL.

The Colts got out-quarterbacked.Sean Payton took Caldwell's milk money last night. Period. Payton was bold. Caldwell looked scared to make a call out there.

Agreed. Nobody knows what the guy does as far as prepping and practice. But not speaking for entire games? No movement? Just kinda weird.I really like this post. That's where I'm at. I don't expect every coach to be jumping around like a goof and screaming at the refs, but I expect coaches to be ... coaching. There are plenty of calm, easy-going coaches who don't throw hissy fits at everything. But when you see them on the sidelines, they're looking over their sheets, they're talking into the headset, they're conferring with a player or another coach, doing something. I can't say I've ever seen a shot of Caldwell doing anything except stare blankly with cold, dead eyes. Was Caldwell even wearing a headset?Agreed. To be fair a lot of us who watched the Art Shell debacle in Oakland are a just a little dubious of the non-moving HC. Call it the Art Shell effect.I liked what Caldwell said the other day when he was asked if he was calm. He said that however he looked on the sideline he could assure you that he was even calmer on the inside. He said if you are prepared there is no reason to be nervous. I thought that was a very true statement.Agreed. Nobody knows what the guy does as far as prepping and practice. But not speaking for entire games? No movement? No you can't. Hard to believe, but he didn't make THAT call either.A is the only one you blame legitimately on Caldwell.Caldwell A. :sigh:He had nothing to do with it.Caldwell derailed the Colts train when he gave up the quest for the perfect season.
If you want to say it's was Polian's or even Irsay's decisions that's your call. Based on things the team did before this season I'd agree it was the FO's position that Caldwell rested the starters. But that's still a long way from saying he had nothing to do with it. One of 3 things happened and neither are good. (1)Either the FO had nothing to do with it and it was all Caldwells decision. (2) The FO dictated it to Caldwell and he agreed and went along with it or (3) The FO dictated it to Caldwell but he lacked the power to stand up for what he felt was best for his team even knowing he had the support of most of the players.:sigh:He had nothing to do with it.Caldwell derailed the Colts train when he gave up the quest for the perfect season.
