Jim Johnson passes (1 Viewer)

Eagles D always brought the heat under Johnson.

It was an honor to be in the stands as he ran his last gameplan here in AZ.

Mr. Johnson was one of the very best defensive coordinators in the NFL for the past decade. RIP, you will be greatly missed.

Great defensive coordinator , Jim Johnson will be missed.

On a side note, I have been disgusted by the fact that Favre has been the lead story on NFL Total Access and SportsCenter; the classy move would've been to lead with Johnson....Favre saga has dragged on forever why not let it wait a couple more minutes?

I have hated the Eagles my whole life, but have always been impressed and respected Jim Johnson. The NFL has suffered the loss of a great, GREAT defensive mind!

RIP!

He was one of the best defensive minds in the game and a great guy as well. He'll definitely be missed.

I do wish that ESP would make this their lead story and I kinda wish the Eagles had waited until he passed to declare the new coordinator, especially since they just named him a couple of days ago.

Did Sportscenter even mention him? I watched the 3 pm(PT) Sportcenter specifically for Johnson, and didn't hear him mentioned at all.

Great DC whose innovative and influential blitz-heavy coaching schemes led to a greater overall NFL product. RIP JJ

RIP and condolences to his family

As a Giants fan I witnessed his amazing schemes firsthand and also what his teaching could do with minds like Spagnola. His legacy will be that of one of the best defensive minds in the history of the league.

Horrible news...was like a punch to the gut when I heard the news today.

R.I.P. to JJ, someone who was as good a person by all accounts as he was a coach.

About half way in. After they got done with Favre AND Burress. They did at least put it on the ticker while they were still talkng about Favre. Covered it on NFL Live that followed, but not lead.

Peter King wrote briefly about him yesterday in his MMQB.

In his column he included these numbers...

The Eagles, in the nine seasons from 2000 to 2008, are in the top five in the NFL in points allowed, total defense, third-down defense and sacks.

A great defensive coach who certainly had an aggressive style of play calling which certainly helped his popularity in a city like Philly. Condolences to his family and the Eagles organization.

RIP Jim

It's been a tough year for Philadelphia sports fans. Harry Kalas, Gary Papa and now Jim Johnson. :lmao:

Eagles fans lost a friend, Jim's family lost a husband, father and grandfather.

Having recently lost my dad to cancer, I know the past few months have been very difficult for Jim and his family.

May he rest in peace...

Johnson will be missed!

Two huge reasons I will personally miss him:

He became D coordinator for the Eagles in 1999.

1. Since 1999, NO NFL TEAM HAD MORE ATS WINS than the Eagles.

2. Since 1999, the Eagles were 2nd in terms of average ATS margin.

He controlled that D and anytime the Eagles came to play, you (for the most part) knew you could count on a solid defensive effort and an ever changing and adapting gameplan and from the defensive guru.

For us gamblers, he gave a sense of cautious optimism every time we had an Eagles bet on the line: that his D would be as prepared as they possibly could be. The level of aggressiveness and preparation made the game a little less stressful to have money on. Definitely one of the best in the business.

Thanks JJ for the memories - it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to watch your wizardry for so many years. You will be greatly missed...
