Jim Kelly's Incredible Strength in the Face of Adversity (1 Viewer)

My goodness, what a brave man former Bills QB Jim Kelly is:

He's in 24-hour pain. He can't feel the skin on the left half of his face. He says his lip feels like it's constantly on fire. He has had his upper left jaw removed and all but two of his teeth -- and those two have had six root canals. He admits he hasn't been able to sleep in years without taking something.

I've had a good friend die of a brain tumor, and other friends and family go through various bouts of cancer. I only pray that I have as much courage and grace if I were to face this as they had. I put Jim Kelly on top of that list regarding what he's had to endure. Amazing guy.

Ill tell you what, ever want to see a city pull together and be as one... Try Buffalo when Wilson died and Kelly announced his cancer. Proud to be a Buffalonian... Great heart here.

Its absolutely heart breaking for Kelly.

Kelly is an inspiration to us all. Keeping a smile on his face during all his adversity is amazing!

What's amazing is that this isn't the toughest battle he's had by far.

I can only hope to be the kind of man Jim Kelly is.

*tries not to cry...Cries a lot*.

Man, that is some sad stuff. We think about these athletes having charmed, rock star lives and we complain about our ordinary, non-descript, ho-hum lives (which may happen to be pain free, without losses to family, etc).

Not necessarily. It looks good so far, but his doctor does want him to go in for some biopsies next week. So clearly there is SOMETHING that isn't 100% right. The tweets I've seen from his family seem happy, but still cautious and still asking for prayers.

Definitely good news and hopefully everything else comes up roses as well.

This is from his daughter:

@erinkelly12: Thank you for all the encouragement! We are trusting God. My dad still has to get biopsies next week. So please keep praying! #PrayersForJK

And this is from a Bills reporter:

@mikerodak: Jim Kelly stresses to me that he still has biopsies next week to answer doctors' questions. "Still need the prayers," he says.

Jim Kelly's biopsies all came back negative. :towelwave: :pickle:
That's great news.

Growing up there was something about those Bills teams and Kelly that I didn't like. But I now have a lot more respect for him as a QB and what that team accomplished.

And it so happens that one of Kelly's brothers has lived in my hometown for a long time and at one point went to the same gym as my dad. Regardless, it's a really touching story, especially after what the Kelly family went through with their son. Kelly's strength is an inspiration and I'm glad he kicked cancer's butt this round. Great guy and great story and we need to talk more about the positives in sports these days IMO.
