Jimmy Clausen will enter the 2010 NFL Draft (1 Viewer)

I think Clausen will be an above average QB. I don't think he'll be a stud but as others have pointed out, he's improved every year, is actually pretty smart with the ball and did play most of this year with a turf toe.

They went 6-6 with an easy schedule... Just sayin'.

Clausen and Tate are both overrated but Tate plays tough and I think he can make it. Clausen had one good year out of three.

Right, but his off years were when he was a freshman and sophomore. If he stayed his senior year with the rest of the guys from this team, wouldn't you think he'd be in for another good year, making him a QB that had outstanding seasons his junior and season year? There's been a lot of great Qb's over the years that have had only 1 good senior season or two good seasons in their junior and senior seasons. Whether Clausen turns out to be good or not, it won't be because of his freshman and sophomore seasons.

I truly believe there will be a new Head Coach in Buffalo and he will select a new franchise QB with the 1st round pick (unless a stud OT is there and they can't pass him up). But either way, there is no way Buffalo goes into next year with the QB's they have now.

I'm a big ND fan and wanted Clause in Buffalo bad. But after watching a lot of games and reading up on things I really hope they somehow end up with Jake Locker. I think Clausen is closer to being NFL ready, but Locker has much more talent and his upside is much greater. Locker won't see the field too early and will probably struggle his first year, but I think he's gonna be a future Pro Bowler in the NFL. He can do it all physically. Make all the throws and he runs the ball very well. He just needs a good coach to teach him how to be a great NFL QB mentally.
Sounds eerily like a sales pich for Jamarcus Russell.
Well as they say you find mentally-ready QBs with weak arms in round 7. Guys with the physical tools are selected in round 1 because you can't teach that.

There appear to be certain parts of the mental game for the QB that you can't teach either.I'm not specifically indicting Looker here, but generally speaking, how many QBs with greats physical tools drafted high do we have to see fail to realize that the mental part of the game for the QB is just as important to scout and draft based on vs. the physical tools they have?

Do doubt guys that can heave the ball 60 yards from their knees or run a 4.3 40 get scouts and GM salivating, but the guy that can read a defense quickly and make the right, accurate throw has a much better chance at NFL success.

Weis has coached him up, taught Clausen to go through his progressions, but I'm not a fan of his arm strength or accuracy. He 'aint bad at either, but he 'aint special...

Since he is a QB, he will go much higher than he should, and I expect him to be the epitome of average, at best, in the NFL.

I don't think Tate is over-rated, in fact, I think he will be very close to an all-pro calibre player in the NFL.

Time will tell!

Locker's shown an aptitude for learning and is dedicated to improvement, both of which bode well for the mental side of the game."He's one of the hardest-working guys I've ever seen," says Tripper Johnson, a Washington defensive back... "It's any NFL coach's dream to have a guy who's going to compete every single down, who's going to study until he can't study anymore, and he's also a leader. He rallies us up. He's the one everybody follows."

I agree 100% on Tate. I think Clausen has outstanding accuracy. He always seems to put the ball exactly where it needs to be. Obviously neither of us are QB guru's so we'll see. I think his arm is a little better than average, but you are right, nothing special.

Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports University of Washington junior QB Jake Locker has announced that he will remain at the university for his senior season and will not enter the 2010 NFL Draft.
NOOO!!!I was really hoping the Bills were gonna get lucky and draft him.

I actually think it's the smart decision. He needs the experience. Unless he has a Jevan Snead-esque meltdown next season, his stock will hold steady.

I think it's the smart decision too. I think he will be the #1 QB selected (if not the #1 overall) next year. Playing under Sarkisian another year should really help him.

I'm just not buying the argument in this article. He's gushing over Clausen's stats against some of the weakest defenses in college football. USC and Pitt were the only ranked teams they played and he lost both games. Comparing his stats to Manning, Rivers, etc. when they were juniors in college just makes no sense to me.
I'm not really buying it either. Clausen wasn't facing elite competition every game but his own team didn't have much elite talent either. The stats are still quite impressive especially in a pro-style offense. He also played most of the season with torn ligaments in his toe.

Rightly or wrongly, Locker will go higher based on potential. When he looks good, he looks really good. Case in point:

Some teams will see him as Jay Cutler (franchise QB held back by poor supporting cast in college). Other teams will see him as Kyle Boller (underachieving physical specimen with insufficient instincts and consistency). Someone will like him enough to take him in the top 10-15.

I haven't paid close attention to Clausen when I've watched ND games. His production has been good and the ND fans seem to think he's legit. Then again, you would expect a QB to produce when he's throwing to two NFL caliber WRs. I also agree with the comments about his attitude. He seems like a punk. That may or may not matter. He'll probably go in the first round. The only QBs who figure to potentially go ahead of him are Bradford and Locker. Pike could maybe sneak in there if some team falls in love with him.
I follow ND football very closely. I don't see where people are getting the 'punk' attitude impressions, unless they're only remembering his freshman year limo-arrival and his troglodyte sophomore long-hair cut. Outside of that, I haven't seen any reason to apply the 'punk' label to him.
Always yelling at people. Barking at his teammates. Taunting the visitor's sideline.
It works for Philip Rivers.
