Jag Legend Booked on Multiple Drug Charges

Posted Apr 22nd 2009 8:22PM by TMZ Staff

Former Jacksonville Jaguar superstar Jimmy Smith has just been booked into a J-Ville detention facility on a slew of charges -- including 2 felony and 2 misdemeanor drug charges.

Smith -- who was arrested early this afternoon after being pulled over in Jacksonville -- was booked for felony possession of cocaine, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license. Smith was also charged with felony possession/sell of a controlled substance.

Smith is being held on $5006.00 bond at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility in downtown J-Ville.

Guess we know where Matt J. and Reggie W. learned it from. LOL if i'm not mistaken this isnt the first time Jimmy has been in this type of situation.

After he suddenly retired from the league I believe it was rumored that he left because he failed a drug test.

I'm not surprised someone made a dumb comment either. This is a shame. After his bust years ago I thought he stayed clean and became a devoted family man.

My God an even dumber unsubstantiated comment. Yeah Matt Jones and Reggie needed someone to show them how to do drugs.

I think it was intended to be a joke.

10 oclock local news says 5 gms of crack, 3 gms of weed, and "cocaine residue" on a business card.

Should not be any intent to distribute issues here... (I hope, as a JSmith fan).

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Mrs. Smith. I'm sure your boy will come out of this just fine.

It's sad this happened but he had issues when he was in the NFL and there were rumors part of his 'retirement' was because he had failed another drug test. So...here's a guy who did drugs while in the NFL, quit his job in the NFL because of drugs, and now that he has money and free time, I'm supposed to be surprised when he's caught in a drug bust? It's a sad state of affairs things have come to this, but c'mon. You're just being naive if this news is truly that shocking.

Pulled over because his window tint was too dark, you don't hear that very often. Crack cocaine what a friggin embarrassment.

Actually here in Texas its pretty normal, dont know about everywhere else but it happens here. Most of the time when they stop you for it they'll actually cut it in half.

It's very sad, but I also think it's a reminder of how we need to remember that what a person does to engender fan support is wholly different from what they are as a person. Too often we extrapolate on-field performance and/or being well spoken to think it immediately transfers over to all aspects of their lives. It most certainly does not.

Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy.

Just kidding, but he's had an issue for quite a while.

It's a shame. I hate seeing guys that have money, fame and a potential platform to make their and other people's lives better and just waste it. It's obvious that he's an addict and probably has been for some time. Hopefully, he can turn his life around before he ends up dead, in jail or hurting someone else.

I wonder if he gave the officer persmission to search his vehicle. If not, with that new Supreme Court ruling this week, he should be able to get this tossed, no?

for his own good he's probably better off being held accountable so maybe he can get some help. I'd tend to think he's got a bit of a problem if he's got crack, coke and pot on him while he's driving around at 2pm on a Tuesday.

All this hoopla for that? :bag: Edit: While still not that much, I thought it was 5 grams of powder cocaine. Crack is whack.

How is 5g of crack a felony? I thought the laws were changed so that crack is treated the same as cocaine (over 1oz. is a felony).

Wait...you mean they cut the tint on your car right there?

Anything over a Gram is a felony. 5g of coke or crack is def. telling me either this guy has a daily - "big appetite" for the powder/free base/main line or he's hooking some people up with a little. An 8 ball of Coke (which is alot and usually shared with 1-3 people to get ####'ed) is 3.4 grams I believe so having 5 grams on you.. well you get the point. Not as familiar with crack but it doesnt sound good for Jimmy which is sad.. I to heard he had "turned" his life around.

Hmmm...I thought they would cut the crack for you. Kind of one of those cops helping citizens programs.

This isn't a lot of bail for that offense.

Former Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith said he is embarrassed by his recent arrest for drug possession, and he will fight to overcome his addiction. "I am ashamed and humiliated by my actions and I apologize for the embarrassment I have caused my family, friends and everyone in the Jacksonville community who have supported me throughout my career," Smith said. He is now free on $11,500 bond.

Yep. Looks like Jimmy is a big user. #######. Hope he gets straight.
