Joan Rivers is dead (1 Viewer)

From the link:

Joan Rivers was reportedly hospitalized on Thursday after she stopped breathing during throat surgery at a New York City doctor's office
Wait, she was having "surgery" at a "doctor's" office?

Could this be plastic surgery gone wrong?

Just curious.

Please don't die, please don't die, please don't die...

...wait, JOAN Rivers? Nevermind.

Wow. I'm not a huge fan of hers or anything but she's a pretty influential comic and a solid individual by all accounts. Career was in the crapper at one point but she never gave up. Now it looks like she's probably toast. :(

Apparently she has passed. RIP.
Sad. She was a legend. Sadly, I don't even remember what she used to look like before all of the surgery. Why do women think that looks good?
I don't think a plastic looking mold looks good at all. I can see maybe a little botox here and there as you get up there, but surgery is plain stupid even if you are rich.

Never did care for her as she gave me a headache. Was overrated in my book. But it's never good to hear someone dies especially when it seems to come out of the blue. RIP

I forget which two comedians it was, but I recall listening to a podcast where two older comedians were saying that when Joan Rivers was filling in for Carson on The Tonight Show (and Carson was sort of mailing in some episodes because he had already been hosting for so long), Rivers was the better Tonight Show host during that period.

She was Carson's regular guest host for a while and was very good in the role. Whether you liked her schtick or not, she had an extremely sharp and quick wit so was very well suited for the Tonight Show format. Her own late night show on Fox was a commerical flop but so was every other attempt Fox made at carving out a late night niche.

Sad to see her go. She was a bridge from another era of comedy.

I think it was that failed show that wrecked her career for a while. Nobody would return her calls and she got really depressed, considered suicide. Finally started over, did cheap standup gigs and eventually got the job with E!.

My wife always watched that show she was on. Got to hand it to the old broad, she was ballsy and would tell it like it is.

Wasn't a fan of Joan Rivers, but respected her for what she accomplished.

Thought this sums her up pretty well:

@FrankConniff: Joan Rivers wouldn't hesitate to make a sick joke about the passing of Joan Rivers and that is why I will miss her. RIP.

@anthonyjeselnik: Joan Rivers once told me she would die before she'd ever apologize for a joke. I'm glad she made it.

Yeah, when she got banned from the Tonight Show and her show died, she was screwed. Then her husband committed suicide. Which of course led to her most cringeworthy awesome joke ever.

:goodposting: I always loved her stand up routine, especially when she threw in those OH! OH!s in there. I felt her red carpet snarkfest with her daughter was beneath her comedically.

A pioneer for women in comedy, no doubt.

Please to elaborate?

Once you hit 80 showbiz options can be limited. They no longer make shows like The Love Boat.

I know. To me, it was cool to see her still be relevant; I just thought dumping on what people wear is too easy.

When she took the Fox gig Johnny was pissed. He never spoke to her again and she was banned while he was the host.

RIP. Heard a good radio interview with her not that long ago and she had a "I don't give a #### what other people think" attitude. I didn't really care for her until after that interview.
