My company is going through a major restructuring / downsizing and unfortunately my position was impacted (along with many others). Nothing to do with performance, just a company needing to cut expenses. That's business...such as life. I'm looking for my next gig and this place has always been a great networking resource.

I'm located in Las Vegas but hoping to find a fully remote position. My last 2 stints below for my experience and skillset, but can send full resume via PM/email. Appreciate any leads, suggestions and shtick!

This kind of thing should be a regular feature here.

If nothing else, people can get feedback on a resume. But I bet with this group, there could well be connections made. Good idea.

I am looking for a senior level angular developer, needs to relocate to Houston though.

Edit: need full stack skills, ability to design a database/data structures, know how to build API's, write professional level technical documentation, understand 1-2 different middleware platforms, etc. To get these type of skills looking at a mid career type person.

@offdee I'm out on vacation right now, but can offer some advice next week when I get back. Two things off the top of my head...it's senior or executive leadership, not upper leadership. Senior or executive sounds much better. Also, I'd remove the phrase of lead, and replace it with drove projects to successful completion with metrics, etc.
I'd also run it through ChatGPT or CoPilot, they are great at rewording with the appropriate keywords for getting resume hits.

while i am doing fine, i would like to explore some other options that provide more work/life balance.

for any recruiter/HH who could work with me, i'll share resume/CV, objectives, wage requirements, etc.via dm or email.
I only need to update current role

Did we have the same lady help us with our resume? Take out that italics part and it is like verbatim.

Brunette, Milwaukee, petite, 7.5 offdee?

Just a week late. We just filled a spot.

I just talked to the PMO and she wants to see your resume if you want to send it to me I'll forward.

:lmao: i can’t remember where i got all that from…think it was bits and pieces from other examples i saw. Definitely not from a 7.5, I’d remember that.

I give this about a 5 on the Offdee scale. Seriously amigo, you need more concrete metrics of your accomplishments. It's all way too vague.

I can’t wrap my head around how I’d put meaningful results metrics to what I do. It’s not a sales position where work correlates directly to numbers. I manage digital projects and evaluate and streamline processes. I feel like I’d just be making stuff up.

Streamline processes - how much of the original time period did you save? reduced error rate?

Digital projects - on time delivery %?

There isn't a metric to know if "streamlining processes" is actually being streamlined?

My last official day is next Friday (6/21) and then severance starts. I was chatting with an ex coworker on LinkedIn last night…she’s located in the UK and was let go 2 weeks ago. She said she negotiated her “last day” to be end of June and her severance doesn’t start til then.

I’ve never heard of negotiating last day to be further out when let go. Is that just a UK labor law thing or could I try to do that as well (in the U.S.) ?

How much severance are you getting, i.e., how desperate are you to start another gig right away? Based on personal experience, enjoy the time off as you don't get these "opportunities" very often. Still work your network and reach out to recruiters, but don't stress about not being gainfully employed until you have to.

I was given a 6-month severance (along with the non-compete for the same length) and paid a double bonus for the year, so I wasn't too stressed about finding something right away despite having a wife and a college student to support. I was gainfully employed again after 10 months and look back fondly on that 10 months I had off. We spent 3 weeks in Europe, I got to see every one of my son's senior year baseball games, etc. If that was a taste of what retirement looks like, I'm all in.

UK redundancy laws are very restrictive. You can't just tell someone they are out of a job tomorrow.

Only 3 months of severance (was only with this company for 4 yrs). I’m not living paycheck to paycheck or anything, have a savings and no kids. I’m good.

I’m sure they gave her 2 weeks notice just like me. Sounds like she requested it to be 4 weeks and they agreed.

I’m assuming that wouldn’t fly in the US if I tried? Make up some nonsense of needing more time to transition my stuff.

My experience with layoffs in UK is that you can't just give 2 weeks notice. There's a whole redundancy process that has to be followed and it's lengthy.

That's a different challenge then. Unfortunate. You said you couldn't wrap your head around how to put meaningful results metrics against it - those would be the meaningful results metrics I could think of.
I’m sure majority of resume metrics are just made up nonsense anyways (outside of sales positions when it’s hard $$ figures). I can make some educated guesses numbers up and just be prepared to defend them. It’s not like any place is going to try to verify them and they wouldn’t be able to anyways even if they tried.

@Phil Elliott or anybody else,

Please email me at offdee_11@yahoo.com to continue any conversations.

@Joe Bryant I truly was trying to watch myself after last banning and am aware of what I’m saying. If there’s any way to reconsider this ban with my job situation in flux I’ll be extra careful moving forward. The guys here have been great with networking and some leads. Thanks for considering.

What'd he get banned for this time?

the blackmail thread did our hero in :kicksrock:
Weird. I didn’t remember seeing anything too controversial from him in that thread.

I didn't either but I'm much more liberal on social issues and related topics. I think there's just a disconnect on here between the current single/dating life and the way things used to be 30+ years ago. I find a good rule of thumb is to avoid discussing anything female related if you want to avoid getting banned.
