Not 100% sure who you are asking or who you are suggesting said this. I would say they are 2 separate things: I think that people should be paid a decent wage, and I believe that looking at things I believe that we have fell behind on this aspect of keeping up with minimum wage and keeping workers' buying power. Besides the minimum wage, no - I don't believe a company MUST pay their workers X. It's their business. So for those in here who have said because rich company makes X amount they should pay employees Y amount. Where’s the line? If the company is losing money should the employees give money back to the company? What if the company is breaking even, should everyone work for free?
The last couple questions are the risk/reward of owning a business. What would suck for businesses, especially small businesses, is if we decided to 2x Federal minimum wage overnight. I think we would need a better plan than than, but IMO the hit to businesses shouldn't trump the fact that our wages have been lagging behind for years.
Short answer = IMO minimum wage should be higher, but beyond paying that minimum wage, the business needs to decide what to pay above that.
