Joe Thiesmann (1 Viewer)

Seriously, I got real sick of him comparing the turf in the Superdome to "a wet field". I can guarantee you that Thiesmann never played on turf like that since it didn't come around until the mid-90's. Once again it is proof that he has no idea what he is talking about.

I played college ball and we had a new field like that my Junior year and I can tell you that it was faster than any grass surface I ever played on. It is more like a rubberized track than a wet field. The only downfall is that when your face hits the turf, small pieces of rubber fly into your eyes and blind you for a while. Other than that, the traction is great.

Joe Thiesman is the worst thing to happen to MNF. He is all the proof necessary to show that not all former NFLers are cut out to be broadcasters and yet he gets to work MNF.? If anything he should be working regional games on Fox.

In general Networks are making NFL broadcasts too cheesey and gimmicky. I think ABC does the best job. Madden and Michales are a good combo. Wheather or not you like Madden I think the format is perfect. One Broadcast guy to call the game, and one ex coach/ player to offer insight on what's happening on the field.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are another fantastic duo.

...Wow, where did that come from... pardon my rant.

Bottom line, ESPN is doing a terrible job with MNF. ABC was way better.

I don't understand this. They are essentially the same broadcast because the came company owns ABC and ESPN. All ESPN lost was the announcers (and good riddance).

Whole crew is awful.
I wouldn't go quite that far. Tirico does a great job and I love the way Kornheiser gets under Joe's skin and openly calls him out on his stupid comments.I just would like to see more from the "football" commentator role than 10 comments on the stupid turf, like it gave either team an advantage/disadvantage when both teams rely on speed.

At least his comments were somewhat related to FOOTBALL. And your explanation for why everyone was having trouble cutting?????

The intro was more powerful, the hype was better, overall they just did a better job producing MNF.
Seriously....intro and hype?I turn it on to watch the game, not Hank Jr whoring himself out or some lame Berman routine.

I never turned the game on until quarter after just to skip all the ####e.

I don't usually offer up comment on these things, but ESPN is just too hard to watch. I found myself thinking last night, while the game was on,

"gee, I wonder if there are some Knight Rider reruns on TNT right now"

JMHO

Alright then, Strictly focusing on "the game" Michaels and Madden were way better than Joe Theisman and Tony Kornheiser. I do like Terico though. Why are all 3 of their last manes so damn hard to spell :wall:

Also played on Field Turf It was harder than heck to cut at first but after about 3 games it was it was great, I think it had to be worn some but visiting teams still had problems on it slipping so I think it had more to do with just getting a "feel" for it.Back to the announcers, I laughed like crazy when they changed a pass interference call and I believe it was Theismann that said "If they didn't see anything, why did he pull a flag out of his pants"The turf talk got old but, the slipping and inability to make cuts changed the game some and deserved explaination.

I think he actually said "If they didn't see anything, why did he pull it out of his pants" Worst part about that was I don't think he even got the joke until Tony started laughing at him...

Joe is a a Genius

"Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein. " - Joe Theisman.

Its one thing to discuss it, another to devote an inordinate amount of time to it in a broadcast already sorely drained of time to actually talk about football.

Seemed like the breakdown went:

70%- New Orleans hurricane related stuff

10%- How the Falcons felt about everybody focused on above

10%- Reggie Bush

10%- Turf Talk with Joe Theisman

10%- Anything else related to football or the game at hand

But at least they gave 110%.

You should be part of the MNF crew then. They need a turf expert like you.

That was pretty much how I saw it. Seemed like a relevant point to discuss. :shrug:J
/agree with both postsI'm not a huge fan of Joe T or Korno but it changed a good part of the game and needed to be talked about.Of course, would have been nice if Kornheiser could have had something more relevant to say than the 100 times he said the game 'couldn't have ben scripted better' for NO. Yes, I get it. It's a miracle the Dome is open. Now ask Spike Lee about basketball again.

The #2 crew on the first week's late broadcast was far more enjoyable. How did Theisman get the job in the first place. The guy is horrible.

But Barkley has kept it because he's funny, and Flutie (a) isn't on the national broadcasts, and (b) when I've seen him is in a short time is already better spoken than Theisman.

I would love to see Vermeil in the booth again on national broadcasts... the guy actually analyzed nuts and bolts during the game. He talked about the different formations, he analyzed line play (beyond saying "he got beat there")... it was really enjoyable to get a more "football" take on the game.

I'm just rooting for Kornheiser to not be able to restrain himself throughout an entire season of Theismann stupid statements... a big part of his appeal (if you like him) is his nit-picky logic and analyses, and I can almost hear him restraining himself every time Theismann says something stupid... he's disagreed & "corrected" him a few times, but you can tell he's trying to play nice and has been a subdued version of himself. When he gets more comfortable in the booth, or more annoyed with Joe, it could get interesting.
