Joey Galloway.....GREAT play today. (1 Viewer)

With the other 3 WR's questionable (Moss, Welker, and Edelmanbergerfineman&co), Galloway should get plenty of looks.

Thank me later.

We had this thread already, and Galloway is not such a great play. He has not clicked at all with Brady and has had a lot of trouble picking up the offense.

Why, did Joey actually learn the playbook finally? Until he figures out how to run a route, I'm not convinced he makes a great play.

Mind you, I'm a Pats fan and I'd like nothing better than for him and Brady to connect, but they don't have chemistry at all so far.

Being questionable and being out are two different things, especially when NE is involved. If Galloway is the only game in town, yes he is startable, but we don't know that.

AND as reported in the Northeast Weather thread, the conditions at Gilette are brutal. I'd avoid Galloway like the plague.

Looks like Moss is playing and Welker is out...that might be a positive for Galloway, but I would only start him if no other starter was available.

He is going to be on the waiver wire, he just plain sucks. He had a sure TD in the back of the endzone and with all his NFL experience did not know enough to stay in bounds before he caught the ball. Then he dropped an easy catch over the middle. He is AWFUL!!!!!! Brady appeared pissed yesterday with him and with good reason. As soon as they get Welker back he will be looking for employment elsewhere.

Any homers care to chime in why they cut Greg Lewis for Galloway? Strictly $$$ ?

Seems like an un-patriotic move for BB and the boys.

My guess is it was $$$. Neither looked good in camps or preseason, but think they'd have been on the hook like $2.5M for Galloway or something like that. Hopefully he sorts it out soon, because right now he is worthless from an NFL & FF perspective.Wouldn't shock me to see Terrence Nunn from the PS get the call up sooner rather than later.

Rumor has it that Brandon Tate is starting to practice with the Pats but wearing a red shirt. He can not be activated till week 6 but he may be someone to watch as the season progresses if Galloway can not turn it around.

The Pats would only have eaten $600K to cut Galloway in training camp. I believe at the time they were more concerned about depth at other positions, and WR depth was not as a high a priority as it is now. They needed some roster spots at other positions so Lewis had to go. I think they felt Galloway's experience would kick in at some point and he would be able to get up to speed. That hasn't happened yet.As I mentioned in some of these Galloway threads, the issue is Galloway has not been asked to learn and execute a lot of different plays over his career. He's basically been a speed guy for go routes, slant ins, and a few other standard routes. He's never been thought of as a great route runner and has not had to change up his routes very often. However, NE runs a very dynamic offense that changes up at the line, changes on the fly, and requires receivers to make reads AS THE PLAY IS EXECUTED. Basically, from what I have heard, receivers are instructed to go to certain spots on the field based on the positioning of the defense as they run their routes. Galloway has not had any experience in such a scheme before and clearly has not gotten in sync with Brady. So there could be a base play and formation called, Brady might audible out to something else, and could at the last second signal even another thing right before the snap. From that, receivers could go from Point A to Point B and then make a cut based on the defense once they get there. To the outside if there is safety help over the top . . . to the middle if a LB covered someone else or blitzed, stop and turn if there looks like a corner blitz, etc. That's partly why the offense has missed Welker so much, as he can read defenses as well as Brady and the two have been able to figure out ways to get him open in most defensive schemes. Galloway has not been able to adjust to that yet. What I don't understand about the Pats is why they don't try to configure some plays to better fit the guys they have rather than always trying to shoe-horn people into their system. Maroney is another example. Why not give Galloway some plays where he can run routes he knows how to run. At least he will be in the right spot rather than have him running around confused most of the time.

IIRC, Tate was put on the PUP to buy them some time to figure what to do with him. He will miss the first 6 weeks and then I think they have 2 more weeks to activate him, get rid of him, or place him on IR.

:goodposting: perhaps BB considers that a slipperly slope...learn the system or GTFO mentality. if its true that galloway still has the quicks, he may want to change that perspective.

my thinking is that tate only has value if welker or moss are injured. i would be surprised if edelman doesn't supplant galloway. i know the talk is how edelman is welker 2.0 but he has opportunity to contribute more than galloway.

The system is not the problem with Galloway, after 12 years in the NFL I would expect that Galloway would know where the back of the endzone is and step go over it on a pattern that would have netted the Patriots a first quarter TD. Galloway is also dropping passes that he should be catching. The pass over the middle that he dropped should have been caught, and he has all but lost the confidence of Brady at this point. When your QB is shaking his head and pissed you know for sure that you are not going to see a lot of balls thrown in your direction. Two season's ago Watson had the same case of the drops and Brady hardly looked in his direction after that. The problem right now is that Brady is still trying to find his long ball again, after being off for a year and playing on a limited basis in the preseason. Galloway is a burner that will beat you with his speed and get behind defenders. They already have the one of the leagues best in Randy Moss, when Moss is not open then Brady looks to his check down receiver in Welker and now Edellman, if they are not open Watson has been his third option. It is my opinion that Galloway is not going to be a factor until Brady gets the timing down on his long ball.
