Joey Porter angry about contract (1 Viewer)

These days, nobody in the NFL makes more headlines than Joey Porter, who recently criticized George W. Bush. Porter will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week, creating one headline. He has stayed away from Pittsburgh's voluntary minicamps, creating another headline. And the biggest headlines could be yet to come. Porter will consider holding out from training camp, and a potential contract stalemate is on the horizon. Porter has two years remaining on a contract that is scheduled to pay him $3.85 million this season and $5 million next season. When Steelers executives were asked about the idea of Porter staying away from the team recently, they shrugged and said, "voluntary minicamp," as if it were no big deal. But it will be a big deal if Porter is not at training camp. And there are indications that could be the case.
:lmao: Anything that causes any kind of disruption among the Steelers is A-OK in my book, I don't care what it is.

The Dude is  WAAAAAY  Over-rated anyway!! Let him sit!! :goodposting:

Shocking. A man of his character and humility? Shocking.
Humility is certainly not one of Joey Porter's virtues...his character is one that I will take on my football team any day of the week....especially Sunday.
I have tons of respect for Ward, Bettis, the entire Rooney family, and many other members of the Steeler organization, but Porter is a tool.Loved how he tried to trash talk Stevens before the Super Bowl when he knew he would be across from Walter Jones all game long. How did that turn out for him? Even better was the one play when Stevens and Porter were actually face to face. Stevens pancaked him on a run play. :lmao:

For what its worth, Stevens was been a tool for the majority of his career too, but he seems to have turned a corner. We'll see how long that sticks.

Blind homerism is never pretty.
Did Jerry Porter play in the Super Bowl?? :blackdot:

No, he plays for Oakland. They were not in the Superbowl. Try to keep up.

""Hey, Joey. If you want to know whether the team is going to overpay for a linebacker from a 3-4, zone-blitzing scheme that has made plenty of players into stars, we suggest that you place a call to Greg Lloyd. Or Kevin Greene. Or Chad Brown. Or Hardy Nickerson. Or Jerrol Williams. Or Levon Kirkland."

My thoughts exactly.
MONEY :moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag:
What are you talking about AhrnCityPahnder????First of all, Hardy Nickerson just sucked....he was by no means a star. Jerrol Wiliams had a couple good seasons with Pittsburgh, but he was never a great pass rusher, and certainly not a product of the 3-4 zone blitzing scheme. He had one good season in sacks (9) and otherwise never had mroe than 4 sacks in a season as a Steeler.

Kevin Greene, Chad Brown, and Greg Lloyd were just great linebackers, not products of the system. Greene only spent 3 years as a Steeler, and before that and after that proved how great he was as an LA Ram and a Carolina Panther. Chad Brown had success as a Seahawk after he left Pittsburgh. Greg Lloyd may have been the best of all them, but injuries slowed him down. Had he not been injured, I think there would be some good, solid cases to be made for his entry into the Hall of Fame. He and Derrick Thomas were the best LB's in the NFL in the early 90's.
I dont disagree with any of that (except for the Hardy Nickerson sucked part). What are you arguing?

Just that the 3-4 zone blocking has amde a bunch of players into stars, when in reality they weren't all that great.....which you kind of implied in your post that I quoted.

Obviously, I don't want Porter to leave at all....but if he were to, I don't think there'd be a drop off just because of a different scheme. Porter's just a very solid LB and a fantastic athlete.

I was quoting a quip from PFT. Not really intested in getting bogged down with who you think was a star and who was shined because of the system, and who sucked ... The point they were making, and that I was greeing with is this: Pittsburgh has historically never paid/overpaid for a LB once he became recognized and started looking for a big contract -- and there's no reason to think they will make an exception with Porter.

ah, alright.

Porter is probably another in the long of NFL players who got himself a ring and is now trying to cash in while he still can. He is barking up the wrong tree, though, with the Steelers, as they have a history of not caving in to tactics like this.
