Most "great guitarist conversations" gravitate toward technical mastery. That's not Santiago's winning trait, but his sound resonates strongly with a subset of people (including me). Just enjoy and don't worry about whether anyone else likes his music more or less than you do.

I can't really comment intelligently on musical technique or prowess but this at least got me to look up Santiago, even though I'd known of him.Am I just a Boston homer thinking this guys doesn't get much cred? I don't hear him mentioned in many great Guitarist conversations. Think he has a pretty unique sound.

Interesting he mentions The Beatles' "Savoy Truffle" as an influence. I like the guitar work in that song a lot, guess that helps explain why I like Joey's style.

My friends -- who are much more savvy musically than I -- have often noted that "Here Comes Your Man" sounds straight Beatles. That Hard Day's Night Intro is a direct adulation/love chord to them.

I’ve always felt this way about Elliott EastonAm I just a Boston homer thinking this guys doesn't get much cred? I don't hear him mentioned in many great Guitarist conversations. Think he has a pretty unique sound.

Which, is more than you can say about a lot of "virtuoso" guitar players who may be way more technically/classically talented.
