Am I just a Boston homer thinking this guys doesn't get much cred? I don't hear him mentioned in many great Guitarist conversations. Think he has a pretty unique sound.
Most "great guitarist conversations" gravitate toward technical mastery. That's not Santiago's winning trait, but his sound resonates strongly with a subset of people (including me). Just enjoy and don't worry about whether anyone else likes his music more or less than you do.

Interesting he mentions The Beatles' "Savoy Truffle" as an influence. I like the guitar work in that song a lot, guess that helps explain why I like Joey's style.

My friends -- who are much more savvy musically than I -- have often noted that "Here Comes Your Man" sounds straight Beatles. That Hard Day's Night Intro is a direct adulation/love chord to them.
