Joey traded to Dolphins (1 Viewer)

As far as Joey Harrington is concerned I see two scenarios here:

1) He thinks Culpepper won't be a factor for a good part of the year and this is a situation where he can revive his career.

2) He thinks Culpepper will be ready early but he's comfortable being an NFL backup at a young age.

Thanks for the Harrington update. Thought the last item in the article was also of interest:

"The Dolphins also have spoken with the Saints about acquiring backup running back Michael Bennett, whom New Orleans signed earlier in the offseason to a two-year, $3 million deal before drafting running back Reggie Bush."

With RW suspended, Bennett is a possible backup to Brown in Miami, and therefore could have some (albeit not a whole lot) FF value there.

3) no other team gave much interest, and Joey sees Culpepper as an injury risk, providing his best opportunity.Personally, I would have thought Kansas City would have been the ideal fit, but they may not have been as interested.

Could be the case. Unless he knows something about Culpepper's health it seems like an odd move for a young QB. There would appear to be better fits for him but as you said maybe they didn't have interest.

Sammy Morris is an aqequate backup. Bennett could be used for some quick draws etc, but I would not take a 1.5 mil contract for him. Sammy Morris runs hard and understands teh game. He might not be great at anything, but he is not bad at anything either. I think he is better than people think.

Good move by the Fins. As much as everyone hates on Joey. This was a good move as a contingency plan in case Pepper can't get his "roll on".

Good value pickup.....6th rounder.

Detroit....you are official the worst francise in the league right now. Terrible track record in the draft and apathy on the field.

well, he's better than what they had at the backup spot....and a lot of NFL QBs don't get to start until halfway throught their career so I see it as a win/win.

Some of the Detroit forums are reporting it could be a 3rd rounder if Joey plays all year. Just reporting what I heard from a Lions fan.
No way saban does that. Its a 6th rounder tops

I guess I was hoping that when Millen accused the Dolphins of tampering that the Fins would have said screw you and forced the Lions to either pay Joey his bonus or cut him.

Harrington probably felt that he could get some good coaching in a new environment without the pressure and saw it as an opportunity to revive his career.

Although the Sun Sentinel is also presenting this as a possible story,

The Sun Sentinel

I am still skeptical. Each article uses questionable and iffy terminology. The source is anonymous and not from either the Dolphins or the Lions.

The Sun uses are set to acquire, and the Herald uses apparently is headed. A contract was worked out several weeks ago between Miami and Harrington, but the trade details between Miami and Detroit were never ironed out ...

I am wondering if it is just mis-information ...

maybe Joey just likes Miami?

there are worse places to live.

hanging on to Harrington in one dynasy league, and i'm interested to see what he can do there.

I can definitely understand - the guy is rich and now has a job playing backup in Miami. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

(Full Disclosure: I popped the Joey-to-Miami Popcorn back in early March. It certainly did get stale in the intervening two months.)

he's vetoed any other option repeatedly and told Millen and Co. that it was Miami or nothing. That's pretty much been known for a few weeks now.

right, my point was, maybe it's not so much the situation, as he likes the city?pretty stupid reasoning, but who knows?

seems like people are excited about what Saban is doing there, maybe it's just contagious?

It's not stupid reasoning at all - if you were going to be signed as a backup where would you rather be?

part of a winning team. i hope that's why he picked the Dolphins, because he thinks they can win.

Harrington will get excellent instruction in Miami and he's craving it. I think Saban is gonna make a man out of him and in some form or fashion he will play an integral part of the offense this season.

I absolutely love the fact Miami has CPepp but having a young QB like Harrington behind him is not bad either.

Miami needed to upgrade at the QB position and they now have done so.

:goodposting: The Oline coming into it's 2nd year under Houck will improve.

Being able to throw the ball to Chambers & McMichael will make things easier.

Saban is a run first guy. Ronnie will be kept busy. FA acquisition FB Fred Beasley will be leading the way.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Harrington resurrect his career in Miami in the same way that Thomas Jones did when he left Arizona. The pressure of saving the franchise will be lifted and he should get better instruction. He'll also have a consistent running gane and decent protection to take even more pressure off. Few probably realize this, but he had the same QB rating last year as Culpepper--72.0. You have to wonder what it would do to Harrington's confidence if he leads Miami to a 4-2 record, for instance, while Culpepper is recovering.

I doubt it. Harrington will have one, maybe two good games and that's it. Soon he will disappear and end up cleaning the bottom of boats with Tim Couch and Keenu Reeves

With the Bills, Titans, Texans and Jets on the Schedule in the first 6 weeks it's very possible. Wish you luck Joey... You were unfairly the scapegoat of an all around bad organization.

:goodposting: Same here- I've been waiting for this to happen for a while, grabbed Joey late in an initial Dynasty Draft along with Culpepper. I've always like Harrington in DET, even when he struggled (greatly at times). I think with some good coaching, he could still be a success in the NFL as a starter. And MIA is a good situation where he may get to start for a number of weeks, and showcase his talent for other possible teams, as well as learn under a good coaching system.

I've always wondered how a change of venue would work for Harrignton. A fresh situation could be just the thing - but how will he feel if Culpepper has his renaissance first?

since its a 5th what does that say about Saban now
It says he is willing to get the player he wants. If Joey hits the incentives that makes it a 5th rounder, then he was worth a lot more than a 5th rounder.

The End of yet another sad Lions tale...

I think for the Lions, and Joey, this is the best thing that could happen. We (the fans) needed to turn the page and move on, and Joey needed to as well. Sucks we got hardly anything for him after investing top $$ and the 1.03 pick in 2002, but I guess it's better than nothing...

The Dolphins have a tough decision if Culpepper is ready to play. For example, both had 12 INTs last year, but it took Culpepper 7 games, compared to Harrington's 13. Then again, Culpepper threw 7 TDs in his 7 games, while Harrington only threw 12 through 13 games.

He'll feel good that he isn't in Detroit.

Espn says it's a 5th.
Just to clear this up -- ESPN says no such thing. Their story says it's a 6th and could be a 5th if conditions are met. That condition is if Joey Harrington plays 40% of the snaps this year. Not gonna happen.

Saban knows how Culpepper's recovery is going far better than any of us do right now, and I think he was willing to throw that condition on there because he believes Culpepper will be ready by week 3 or 4.
