Anyone one else enjoy him? Or totally hate him?

I was surprised at how much i enjoyed Chucky on NFLN during the draft. He was informative and funny. Great sense of humor and showed alot of football knowledge and insight. I did not picture him being so natural on TV. I think he nabs a full time gig with NFLN after this.

Disclaimer I did drink alot at the Draft party !

He was very good especially for a first timer.

My only criticism is that he couldn't look at the camera less. Way to engage Chucky! :goodposting:

Gruden was really good. Although watching him confirmed my theory that he never saw a QB that he didn’t like; it seemed that he was gushing over every QB drafted. Other than that, he did an excellent job and I hope to see more of him on the NFL Network.

LOL too funny he did light up on every QB!!

This was the first year I completely avoided ESPN coverage. God I hate watching Berman and his band of idiots.

I loved the NFL Network coverage mostly due to Chuckie. I thought he was awesome as well. I only wish on Day 1 they would have replaced Marshall Faulk with Charles Davis who really got screwed by being put on the "JV team". Davis was underused all weekend.

ESPN has really slipped. Kiper is pretty much like he always was except that he wears on his sleeve his resentment at sharing "draft guru" duties with McShay. I like McShay, however. But Berman and the others are just intolerable.

 It's like you have written my exact thoughts.

I have never been a Gruden fan, but he did a really good job from what I saw. He did a much better job than Herm Edwards, who is kind of creepy.

I'm not a fan of McShay. He comes off as a pompous **** and generally obnoxiously rude to Kiper. I wouldn't put it past ESPN to ask him to be that way towards Kiper, but Kiper either isn't on board is isn't amused with McShay. Gruden was great, but what was up with his hair in the back?

You can't have a fade and a mini mullet Chucky!

Gru was always a great interview...so no surprise he's good on TV. The guy knows A LOT about football.

Gruden is great. He really puts things in perspective and is a good counter point to the other guys when they start going off. I thought it was hillarious when he busted on Mike Maylock about gushing over the Patriots every time they traded down two spots. I almost spit up my drink.I will say this though. I didn't get a chance to watch much of the draft coverage on TV, I was away from the TV most of Saturday and Sunday, so I got my coverage from Sirius NFL radio. In my opinion, the 2nd day especially, it was far and away superior to the TV coverage. I mean it wasn't even close. Having Pat Kirwan and Gil Brandt break down each pick was incredible. They kept with it all the way through the 7th round. In my opinion the TV coverage stops after round 2 and never really continues. They just keep going over the 1st round over and over and your lucky if they discuss a 2nd day pick at all.

enjoyed gruden this year. his hand gestures were funny and almost like something from an SNL skit

hes a character

espn was like a war. steve young was so grouchy and combative it seemed to set the tone for the rest of the crew. just terrible.

mayock was great also.

gruden was great . and i have never liked the guy as a coach . i mean i always rooted against the teams he coached . he was awsome at the draft . got to give credit when due . nflnets production was by far the best i have ever seen by anyone hands down . when gruden called the film guys bats i cracked up big time ...

Someone's got to tell McShay to cut back on the spray tanning. My 5 yr old asked me "Why does that guy looks like an orange."

Didn't listen to the radio, but agree about the coverage on TV. As for Gruden -- I thought he was great. Seems like he took over a lot from Mariucci - who was awfully quiet. Charles Davis was good and Mayock pretty good. On ESPN, I think they try way to hard. Much too much Young and Key. Berman is a bore. Although i watched more on NFLN, it seemed as if Mel did not get much time during Round 1 although he was allowed to be at the "Big Boy Table" . Herm was very stiff. The only good thing he said was the harvin quote.

ESPN started to drive me crazy when they telegraphed every single pick in the first round by showing footage of a guy sitting around and then -- what a miracle! -- the guy they showed coming back from the commercial was the next guy selected. Perfect example was them coming back from a commercial showing Moreno playing cards and then -- amazing -- he was the next player picked when the Commish announed Denver's surprise selection.

And Berman was the worst, pretending he had some kind of great insight or inside info about what a team was going to do, when all the while he was just getting advance notice of the next selection feed into his earpiece. Right before Minn drated Harvin, he was like, "I think the Vikings are going to go in a different direction for a player that can break open a game by doing a lot of different things."

The whole thing totally annoyed me.

I like the coaches talking much more than past players (Although I think Faulk is decent). Gruden, Mooch, Billick along with Eisen and Mayock I thought that was a good group on NFLN and rarely switched over to ESPN for fear of seeing Keshawn shouting his opinion (Like Irvin used to do only worse) over everyone elses opinion.

What is sad is I do like Mel, maybe NFLN can bring him over and they would have the 2 draft Guru's battling it out.

One a side not, where has Jim Mora gone? I always liked Mora, I thought last season when they gave keys to games during the season Mora always seemed on point with his info.

Two observations:

1) Gruden was great and NFLN was far better then ESPN, I could NOT watch them at all.

2) Gruden was very complimentary of Dallas and Jerry Jones in general about the entire team/talent. It almost was if he was interviewing for a job while on camera. I personally don't think he's a good fit for Jerry it was interesting to note.

My favorite Gruden line was when they interviewed one of the recent picks (can't remember who) and he says "This is John Gruden, I used to coach in this league" The whole cast cracked up.

The 'Big Head" clips were hysterical.

Those dudes were cracking up, I was almost on the floor.

Solid cast on NFLN.

Very glad to see that I was not alone in how much I enjoyed Gruden and the entire NFLNetwork draft coverage. Due to other committments I couldn't watch each day live when it started. But boy am I glad I DVR'd the NFLNetwork and not ESPN. I got to a point in rds 6 & 7 that I was FF through the coverage and stopping either when the Eagles were on the clock or when Chuckie was talking. He was very entertaining and informative.

And another thing, say what you want about Eisen but he was a terrific coordinator on the set. The only downside was Faulk, not sure if he was really bad or it was just that everyone else was so good. He struggled IMO.

He had some great one liners. I like he didn't mind makin fun of himself, I could not stand the guy in the last years of Tampa Mike Mayock was excellent too. Cant remember how many picks he got right but it was quiet a few. Good Stuff

I think that was why I enjoyed Gruden so much. He had a self depricating style without going over board that made him easy to warm up to. Everyone knows the guy has mad NFL smarts but he doesn't express it with arrogance.

I'm also a big Gruden fan. My only criticism is that he wasn't critical enough. Everything I heard him say was positive, "this guy is great," etc. That's prety much how he was in Tampa, but I would like commentators to be more critical.

I guess he didn't want to step on anybody's toe's seeing as how every team is a prospective employer.

That was great! He said it to Rex Ryan IIRC.

He wasn't bad. I like him better than a lot of the others... but personally I think he's a little out of his element. He needs to be on the sidelines somewhere...

I'm going to have to remember this for next year. I'd like to give that a shot. Thanks for the heads up there! :hifive:And I agree w/ most here saying that Chuckie did really well and I enjoyed him on the show. I wonder how he'd do on a Monday Night Countdown type of show or the like.

Gruden was great. No question.

Hopefully Zigi Wilf was also watching how good he was and thinking, "I bet he would make a good head coach....."
