John Lackey no-hitter through 8 - ESPN picks up 9th (1 Viewer)

Lackey can't hold off his Fenway demons for a full game... :goodposting:

The superstition of not going anywhere near a pitcher in between innings when he's got a no-hitter going...

stupid or not?

Here we go.

I'm a Sox fan, and I get conflicted here. I'd love to see history, but not at our expense. I've already seen the Sox no-hit twice, and seen 3 no-hitters for the Sox (missed Lowe's).

If only it weren't such a big game.

Will the Fenway Faithful cheer if he does it?

Are they Red Sox fans, or good baseball fans?
There were quite a few people cheering for him when he came out. I hope we bust it out but if we don't will be very glad for him. Great pitcher who's struggled at Fenway in the past.

Hollow moral victory to bust up the No No and Shutout....but nice to at least get on the board.

Lackey overthrowing now....

Just got back from the game. Lackey did not look dominant, and for that reason I am glad he didn't earn the no no. Sox seemed lifeless, finally waking up a bit in the ninth. I was at Dice-K's first Fenway game when King Felix tossed a 1 hitter, and he was much more dominant.

that said, ####ty game, thank God the Yankees are slumping as well, albeit against much worse competition

You must have been out buying hot dogs when he was cracking off those 12-6 Uncle Charleys. If you no hit ANYBODY for 8.1 innings, I'm gonna call you dominant. I'm guessing you have different definition.

:lmao: Just because Lackey didn't have a ton of K's doesn't mean he didn't dominate. The Red Sox barely hit any balls hard. Sure, there were plenty of fly balls, but they were mostly of the lazy variety. None of the ground balls were hit with any authority - I can't remember a single defensive play that "saved" the no-hitter until Pedroia broke it up. Lackey had a very good curve ball and a good fastball yesterday. 8.1 hitless innings against the Red Sox in Fenway is damn dominant no matter how you want to look at it.

While I agree Lackey looked very good, Ortiz's ball late in the game had a very good chance of going out with a tiny bit more oomph. It was hitting more than midway up the wall if Vlad didn't make that leaping catch. Again, not taking anything away from Lackey... but that ball was well struck and almost broke things open before Pedroia's hit.
