Johnny Knox (2 Viewers)

6 catch 70 yards 1 TD vs Pitts Def and it was pouring rain. How fast can this kid run on a sunny day? Cutler really trusted him today. Discuss.

Not saying Knox aint his man, but i've heard this about Olsen, Bennet, and Hester, Cutler might just be going at the matchup the D gives him.

Is he going to be the flavor of the week? Last week it was Bennett and his rapport with Cutler. Who's going to rise to the top?

Knox could end up being the Eddie Royal Cutler had last year. Man, I'm tempted to grab him and jettison Chris Henry.

Knox is fast. He's a good young WR. If he gets the PT, he will produce. A good WR3 with a few more snaps. It's up to Lovie, but to most people it's obvious he needs more snaps.

I was pleased with his performance last week so i picked him up on blind bid, really happy with today's performance couple more solid weeks like this he will work his way into my line up .

I really believe Knox could be a top FF WR by 2011. He's raw, but he's developing faster than I thought he would. Nobody has a better combination of speed/quicks & he seems to be a natural football player (as opposed to a lot of speedsters).

I do think Cutler is a little overrated as a real-world QB, but he could help make Knox a FF monster (in time) if they develop their chemistry. Let's face it...Cutler has a tendency to lock onto a favorite receiver.

Not sure what kind of production Knox will have this year, as he'll likely be hit or miss. Might not have a lot of redraft value this season, but his dynasty potential is off the charts, IMO.

I factor into 3 things:

1. It was against Pitts D

2. Cutler is throwing to him, think Eddie Royal

3. There is not a true WR1 in Chi

Is it wrong to say im thinking of dropping Royal for Knox? I think the the QB makes the WR and not the other way around.
no, but you'd be better off stashing Royal instead of dropping him if possible
Im not going to list my WR cuz im not a ##### but i'm really beginning to believe its the QB that makes the WR, i mean just look at Cutler vs Orton last two weeks for WR.. I usually go with the good QB theory but lately ive drafted based on WR and now am thinking I'm an idiot and its all about the QB.Sig worthy or not i just figured out my WR strategy

He lined up a lot in the slot today from what I could tell, and took advantage of Polamalu's absense in a big way. His TD reception came when he was being covered one on one by the backup safety.

He seems to have good hands and tons of speed, that's for sure.

If the QB makes the receiver than lots of QB's have made Calvin Johnson look good. I wouldn't drop Eddie Royal.
Come on let's be real here. Royal is a nice WR but talent wise he's nothing special, certainly not in the same league as Megatron.
You obviously missed the point.

I took a flyer on Knox as my last pick (very big keeper league) based on some good feedback I heard from someone with ties to the Bears. He was compared to Berrian early on in camp (July), is fast as heck and has great hands - he made some very nice catches today. He was on the field a lot more than Bennett or Iglesias and Cutler looked to him a lot when he was in trouble.

I think Manning and Hester might be faster, but he looks like the real deal.

Sig & Cecil have been high on this guy since January over in draftguys.com. Check out the video and discussion over there for a little more info.

Hardly. I think there are a ton of WR's at or near Eddie Royal's talent level and what allows those type of WR to succeed is the system they're in and the QB who is throwing them the ball. I'm not saying to drop Eddie Royal but as long as he has a crappy QB throwing to him I wouldn't expect even WR4 numbers out of him.Obviously guys like Megatron, Fitz, AJ etc...can succeed with just about anyone tossing them the ball.

Johnny Knox is the truth.

He has some impressive hands and Cutler is locked on to him. My expectation was he'd just be a speed guy, but Hester runs most of the flys and Knox is making his bones underneath. Knox has that knack and timing of good possession receivers to snag the ball out of the air instead of waiting/needing for it to be thrown in to his body.

In the second half, Knox replaced Bennett as the X with the first team. Any Bears receiver is a risky play week-to-week, but the Eddie Royal comparisons/expectations aren't an exaggeration, Cutler has quickly built some confidence in him and is looking for him. Against lesser defenses, Hester will get more downfield shots, but the pressure from the Steelers had Cutler firing early and Pitt was all over Olsen, regularly double-teaming him, esp. in red zone. Knox stepped up and takes a jump in perception from Cutler and OC Turner.

So did Cutler make Royal or Royal made Cutler? Isn't it obvious by now? I thought Cutler was going to suck with no Marshall and Royal....

When I saw them throwing quick screens to Knox, late in the game against the world champs, in the rain no less, it became evident who the WR to have in Chi town is.

1 good game.1 awful game with 4 INTs.Were you saying the same thing after last week?As for knox...raw, fast kid...how will he keep it up is the big question. Tough to know for a rookie WR and IMO Bennett will be more reliable on the year.

I was at the game yesterday. After the first pass Knox caught, my buddy said that Knox could be Eddie Royal. It was a great catch but I laughed at him. By the time he caught his fourth pass, I was agreeing with him. He was all over the field and appears to have some nice hands to go along with the speed.

You can say that Knox is raw because he is blazing fast, but, he is looks pretty much like any other WR right now rather than Nate "double TD drop" Hughes of JAX

Showed great hands and ran crisp routes on one of the worst fields in the NFL ... in the pouring rain. I like this kid and am seriously considering using my #1 waiver claim on him this week.

I dont think we will know Cutlers favorite target until mid season at the earliest. its Knox this week, next week does not look good as they will probably focus on the run and week 4 it could be Olsen, Hester, Bennett, Knox even Aromashodu or davis.

I'm in the same boat as you, although I really don't want to burn a #1 waiver spot on a WR. But even the chance of getting someone who could be Royal 2.0 may be too tempting to pass up.

Just a quick point about Cutler's awful Week 1:Hester: 90 yards receiving and a TDBennet 7 recpts. for 66 yardsBoth these were far superior to Marshall/Royal's week 1 stats in Denver. (4-27-0 and 2-18-0)It seems as though the "QB makes the WR" - and not the other way around. At least after 2 weeks.

I agree to a point and I'm FAR from a McD apologist but they are putting in a completely new system, Marshall spent most of the preseason on the sidelines and the QB has an index finger problem and is wearing a glove so he can hold onto the ball. Things are bad in Denver right now but they will get better. They won't get as good as last year but it'll get better.

When Cutler is playing smart, he will throw to who is open. Ike Taylor was on Hester all day, and had him blanketed. Knox was open in space and Cutler hit him often.

Note that at the end of the game, Cutler zeroed in on Hester (in the slot) and hit him for a key 3rd and 4 conversion that preceeded the FG.

Hester/Knox/Bennett is my order.

Knox sure is fast.

From Rotoworld:

"Coach Lovie Smith said Monday that Earl Bennett will remain a part of the Bears' receiver rotation despite being yanked for and outplayed by rookie Johnny Knox in Week 2.

"We play a lot of guys at that position," he said. "(We're) pleased with what Earl has done." Bennett offers solid possession skills, but Knox is a better big-play threat. The rotation is a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues."

I disagree with the last comment. This is not a situation to avoid. Whoever emerges as the starter in Chi will have a productive year. What does the Shark Pool think about Lovie's comment on Bennett? Notice he didn't state that Bennett will remain the starter. He said Bennet will remain "a part of the Bears' receiver rotation". Maybe I'm being too technical?

Sounds a lot like coach speak to me. To take him at his word might mean that any number of players could be in there. I don't take him at his word here though. When the game was winding down, they were calling specific plays to get the ball to Knox. I am sure coverage played into that and matchups, but they had no problem going to him. That says a lot for a rookie in the rain vs. the defending world champs. Actions speak much louder than words.

“You never know how guys are going to react out there once the lights turn on,” Cutler said. “You don’t know if guys are still going to be able to play as fast as they are, and he’s one those guys, if not faster. He’s out there buzzing around making some big catches with people on him.

"And he’s not just making the standard catches. He caught that snag in there with the guy draped on him and turned it up. He’s going to be one of the guys that we’re going to look to in the future.”

That’s certainly high praise coming from a Pro Bowl quarterback, who has been impressed with Knox’s rapid development. A week earlier, the two connected on a 68-yard bomb in a loss to the Packers.

“In two games he’s come along,” Cutler said. “With [Devin Aromashodu] going down that first week [with a hamstring injury], we were kind of in a scramble. We put ‘13’ in there and he’s been turning out great. He’s in the right spots, he’s making some adjustments on the move.”

Cutler was especially excited to see how Knox instinctively dashed to the sideline on his 22-yard reception late in the first half Sunday against the Steelers.

“It’s not something we called,” Cutler said. “It was just him out there using his ability. I told him, ‘Congratulations, you’re no longer a rookie. You’re out there playing with us, and you’re doing some good things for us.’”

 Quotes like this is going to make me go agiants my judgement and try and scoop him up, sounds like Knox is making smart plays and Cutler is noticing it.

one thing I noticed is when the play breaks down Knox does a great job of improvising, and he seems to be on the same page as cutler is when the pocket breaks.

in week 2 that was the case. In week 1 on one of his INTs, Cutler threw a ball anticipating Knox was continuing across the field, but Knox turned it up field and the ball was picked. Seems like they might have made some adjustments. It's hard to trust a rookie, especially one that was relatively unknown, but if you wait around for more solid performances, it might be too late. I'm buying.

Not trying to hijack, but I still think Devin Aromashodu will make some noise before the season is over. Knox got his opportunity at DA's expense. Knox seized it so far, but I really liked what I saw from Aromashodu in preseason and would love to see him get a shot too when he is healthy.

Aromashodu?? no shot, just like MB3 has no shot at getting 70% of the touches whe he comes back. :coffee:
